[REPORT] PCB asks SLC to share expenses if Test series held in the UAE

If the Pakistani players genuinely feel threatened to tour Australia or England, there isn’t a single thing the ICC can do about it.

Even if they give 200% security assurance which they will, Pakistan are fully entitled to not tour without consequences of penelties.

Not sure why Indians are upset?

PCB has finally shown some wisdom. PCB have proven on a many occasions now they can provide strong security to any touring side. The advisory from governments wont matter now.

Come to Pak, or UAE(share expensives) or give us the points.

Hope India reach the final along with Pakistan at Lords. India will refuse to play and we will be test champions, easy as taking candy off a baby.

If PCB fulfills security requirements and makes arrangements for the players to have appropriate social time then they have 100% acted ethically here.

Those saying 'dont treat SL like this' have to understand that Pak have bent backwards for everyone else for far too long and a little bit of smartness is essential for the greater good.

We can't keep having this perception that Pak is unsafe when it is now quite clear that the security services in the country can safely handle hosting a touring squad of foreign cricketers.

To fellow PPr's, congrats on hosting a safe SL series back at your own den, even though results were not favorible towards pak.

I haven't been following any cricket since the WC, seems like SL shoot themselves on their own foot by trying to help you guys. Probably not the best way to go about it, but I can see why PAK did what they did.
However, don't be surprised if this results on other countries, with whom you guys might have had a chance with, backing down now.

The Sri Lankan board deserves this treatment for how they punished their main players for not going to Pakistan.

While I understand where the PCB is coming from, it is a bit unfair to ask SLC to share the full cost. Home teams bear all costs of hosting. Similarly the PCB incurs expenses to host games at home. It would be fair for the PCB to subtract what would have been the expenses if hosted at home and only ask SLC to share in the extra costs of UAE.

The big question for me is whether the same treatment will be meted to the 21, 17, 14 boards?

Only 2 teams refused to tour SL in 1996. Rest everyone was ready.

Here hardly anyone is ready.

Pakistan plays this card, next cycle teams will refuse to sign the bilateral FTP with pakistan.

Unless majority of teams are ready to tour pakistan, PCBs hard stance will mean nothing.

Signing an FTP without Pakistan

Nice joke

The next FTP will be after 2023 and that is a long long time.

WTC has points and PCB must take advantage of that.

Tour Pakistan or forfeit your points or share the expenses.

Pakistan has suffered enough.

Simple

Trying to force teams to tour and threatening them with forfeiture of points will go unanswered?

You think other boards will simply take this and roll over?

Remember that on this issue Pakistan is pretty isolated, with hardly any board agreeing to tour.

If all boards refuse to tour, will ICC just do PCBs bidding? Lol.

And yes its very possible that a board will refuse to sign the FTP bilateral series with pakistan, if pakistan insists on playing in pakistan or share costs. Why will a board do so?

Interesting to see if PCB takes the same stance against Australia, England etc.

Doing this to Sri Lanka, who've always helped revive international cricket in Pakistan will surely leave a negative impact on PCB in the future.

cricketjoshila for once all points you made here are valid. I don,t think the report is true.

PCB has done well to snare SLC. I mean it makes no sense to refuse a test tour when you just played for 15 days in pakistan.

They were not in solitary confinement.

But this card wont work on others. Atleast thats my feeling, i may be wrong.

PCB higher ups looking for short term self glory...
not bothering about the negative effects of this own goal towards Pakistan cricket in long run...

This is why I think it's a stupid move by PCB. Lanka have truly proven to be an ally by touring when other teams wouldn't. Seeing this, I doubt England or Australia will even consider touring Pakistan.

Given the players aren't allowed to go out of their hotels, it's very difficult to play tests in Pakistan then. What do you expect SL to do in this situation. You can't tell players to be stuck in the hotels for 5 days. It's absolutely absurd. The series should be held in UAE or players should be allowed to go out of their hotels as well. And no curfews please when players travel from hotel to ground.

They will be stuck in hotels for upto month, not 5 days lol. Also stupid idea to provide scheduled visits and it is not normal. This isn't North Korea lol

Teams should not be allowed to refuse to tour Pakistan just because they feel like it without any justified security reasons.

I understand PCBs position and they must try to push the agenda (of hosting cricket in Pakistan) as much as possible, but should do it without stressing the relationship. I can’t blame them here, but what I didn’t like is making the news public - this sort of negotiations should be done closed door, keeping a back door open, otherwise it’ll be a bitter pill to swallow later. SLCB is quite friendly with PCB, therefore I do think some middle ground could have been found, but as usual PCB’s PR mileage got better of them.

It’s a no win situation for PCB actually, but by making it public, they have put themselves into this situation. What PCB calculated that, they have caught SLCB in a tight corner, by the logic that SRL already had toured PAK for 2 weeks - but they are absolutely wrong in that calculation as usual. For that bilateral series, SLCB had to keep it optional on players regarding travelling to PAK and I read they have penalised senior players as well - but they couldn’t force players to travel PAK, hence sent a compromised squad. That was acceptable for a bilateral series, but SLCB can’t do the same for ICC Test Championship. This is the same problem BCB will face also - they can allow (provide NOC) players for PSL or World XI games of their personal risk, but can’t force every player to travel PAK under national flag and they won’t survive in their office, if a compromised BD squad gets hammered in PAK.

ICC can’t do much here and I am sure they won’t do anything here - no, not for BCCI’s threat, rather for the buffoons at PCB that let them down 10 years back. ICC won’t ask any team to travel PAK now, because they burnt hand last time doing it to prove PAK’s credibility as a WC host. And, they won’t curtail any points either - if PCB declines to host SRL in UAE, I see 4 possible verdict from ICC

1. Cancel the series & distribute 60/60 points to both teams (best case for PAK, in terms points but team is already bikini thin in their calendar - another cancellation means PAK players might start to look for a second career)
2. Reschedule the series for future in a hope that situation improves (but not much flexibility there - this series has to be played before June 2021; a conclusive decision has to be taken within few months)
3. Shift the series to SRL (there is no differentiation in points distribution for home or away, therefore PAK will be loser by playing home series in SRL. Though, practically this is the best option for PAK - with my little knowledge, I can categorically say that the two worst place for PCT playing cricket are Pakistan itself, followed by UAE. PCT will be a much better team in SRL than home or UAE)
4. Ask PCB to host the series at a venue SRL is willing to travel or give walkover (120 points to SRL, which will be harsh)

Considering the situation, I think PCB should have tried to negotiate with SLCB in closed door - could be a series in PAK if SLCB is willing, could be cost & revenue sharing model in UAE, could be hosting the series in SRL and in exchange SRL sends another such team to PAK in later dates. Making it public, they actually have put SLCB in a tight spot - now if they agree to share cost or send a compromised squad to PAK, either way people & politicians will get behind their a$$. PCB has successfully made it feel like their (SLCB’s) good gesture (of travelling PAK) was a mistake by them - they shouldn’t have toured PAK!!!!!!

Pakistan are set to host Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series under the banner of ICC World Test Championships after successfully hosting the islanders in the recently concluded limited-overs series. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already sent over the proposed schedule to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials with Rawalpindi and Karachi as the venues for the Test series. Sri Lanka players and board members were content following the completion of the limited-overs series where the Lankans fielded a weakened side with some of their top players taking their names back citing security issues.

While Pakistan came victorious in the ODI series, the hosts were clean-swept by the islanders in the three-match T20I series which resulted the sacking of skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed across formats. Azhar Ali was named the Test captain whereas World’s No.1 T20I batsman – Babar Azam – was appointed as the skipper of Pakistan T20I side.

Now, as per a report, PCB have briefed SLC about the security arrangements for the Test series and is hopeful that the series will be given green light by the Sri Lankan board. However, the final decision will be taken after further discussions between board members. The Rawalpindi Test is likely to take place on December 11 while the Karachi Test will be played on December 19.

Earlier, SLC President Shammi Silva had said: “The safety and security of its players is the responsibility of the SLC, which it takes very seriously. If there had been any doubts, the SLC would not have gone ahead with this arrangement [limited-overs series] that we envisage will improve the players’ confidence and trust level and will also be critical when we start discussions on the schedule of the Test matches.”

It will be interesting to see whether the top Sri Lankan players turn up for the series if it goes ahead as per the proposed plan. Many of the Sri Lankan players were happy about the security arrangements during the recently concluded limited-overs series and thanked the fans for their support.

Good to see Pindi back, plus it is much easier for players to leave the PC hotel and explore the capital.

Islamabad and Faisalabad need to be utilised more.

I’ve heard Faisalabad has advanced leaps and bounds
