The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered former Test captain, Younis Khan the chance to head their High Performance Centre in Karachi besides working as batting consultant with the national team.

According to a reliable source in the board, Younis has been offered a full-time job as head of the HPC in Karachi at the National Stadium in addition to his role as batting consultant.

Younis accompanied the Pakistan squad to England but took time out as batting consultant in the home series against Zimbabwe.

The former top batsman is slated to accompany the Pakistan squad again to New Zealand for the full tour.

Last year, the PCB had also held negotiations with Younis to work as head coach with the Pakistan junior and A teams or as batting coach at the High Performance Centre in Lahore but the talks failed over apparent issues of authority and pay package.

The board eventually appointed former Test batsman, Ejaz Ahmed as head coach of the junior and A teams.

Younis is said to have undergone a dramatic change to his personality and temperament while with the Pakistan team in England and head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq is said to have conveyed only good words about him to the PCB.

Younis himself has admitted that after making some mistakes in the past due to his temperament he has changed and mellowed down in life as he wants to contribute to Pakistan cricket by passing on his experience to the youngsters.

I hope he is made the head coach. He can develop captains to think and outsmart the opponents.

I liked his captaincy , only his temperament didn’t let him achieve to best of his potential.

Plus he was Woolmers choice to lead the side after Inzi. Unfortunately his demise led to chaos of captaincy inside the team.

You never want someone with an ego like Younis as a head coach. Any small disagreement between him and the captain will become a drama series on new channels. Best to keep him in technicals roles without any decision power.

Would prefer him to take on this full time role in HPC rather than coaching, specially with Misbah's days likely numbered.

This is where the former greats should be starting their coaching careers - cutting their teeth at these regional academies or for the U19 setup.

Only then should they be considered for national team roles.

Talks have been going on for a while.

Must be trying to negotiate a good deal for himself.

Always feel things could go pear-shaped with YK around.

We have all these high performance centres and coaches and the standard of fielding is appalling, its light years behind other teams. Our batsman are technically inept. Rather paying large salaries to these guys that have little or no impact, improve the wickets and facilities for cricketers to practice on.

This administration is the first one that is actuallY focusing on all of this. Our pitches have become better this season, they even put the curators in training. This admin also iirc started to use the biometric equipment that we had but never used. And they are also involving ex cricketers across our organizations. So no complaints here

Absolutely selfish and egotistical individual. It has been clear for a while that he’s desperate for a coaching job with the PCB. His stunts in England where he was scribbling pages of notes in front of the camera were laughable. Not to mention his ‘dramatic change in temperament and personality’ as quoted in the article.

This just proves he can behave when he wants to. And right now he wants this job.

If he really has changed, first and foremost he should apologise for the knife incident. Let alone all the other rubbish he pulled throughout his career.

Another dual role? Why cannot they offer him full-time job as head of the HPC in Karachi? How can he will manage 2 different jobs in different locations in the busy schedule. We need proper coaches in academy who can rectify players' mistake by longer time observation.

Younis pulling off a good guy act to get a full-time, high paying coaching job.

How cute.

True. His antics were cringeworthy. He was trying really hard to look good on the cameras.

Not to mention the story of giving tips to Buttler before he smashed Pakistani bowlers.

At least Younis Khan has better skill than Misbah.

Younis Khan should only coach at NCA or junior level because he doesn’t have the temperament or humility to coach players who he thinks might be becoming bigger than him. Also he takes things very personally and cannot let them go

Lots of PPers usually hate Younis.

He is still the only orthodox batter Pakistan has had from 2010-2017 after Yousaf retired.
He succeeded in Tests against all odds, his fitness was always immaculate. I guess youngsters can learn a lot from him regarding batting and how to build an inning. His knowledge is definitely the broadest amongst people here on PP.

Some time back, it was said that Fawad Alam, Nasir Jamshed and Umar Akmal all played their best inning while batting alongside younis. Fawad's 170 odd against SL, Umar Akmal's century in his 3rd ODI, and Nasir Jamshed's century against India.
Ahmed Shehzad also credited Younis when he scored a century against Aus in 2014, and said Younis told him that it took him 14 years to score a century against Aus, you have a chance to do it in your first test against them and stuff.

It's not hate to realize someone's limitation. Younis has a history of throwing tantrums when things don't go his way and he has admitted this himself. At the NCA, he will only work on the technical aspect of the game where he holds most of the knowledge. It's a very good decision from PCB to keep Younis away from a position of authority.

Looks like he is being groomed for the head coach role in the future, hope he invests in a lot more notepads and pens, anyone have any idea what he was actually writing in the England series or was it for the cameras

Do not undermine his tactical nous either. The way he led in wt20 09, his tactics were the best amongst all teams. Promoting Afridi to no.3, relying on Afridi and Ajmal in the middle overs, giving Amir the confidence to open the bowling in all games. The first over in the final where amir bowled 5 consecutive short balls to dilshan was also apparently his tactic.
He is a disciplined guy and wants to control the guys he has under him, which honestly wouldn't be a bad approach as a coach. Mickey did the same as well. As a captain, yes, being too stern may lead to infighting but the oathgate was totally due to the larger egos of "seniors" in the team, as he showed no fear in dropping Yousaf or Razzaq or Rana Naved or Malik as to how he wanted the team to take forward or for specific games.

Batting coach is a pretty good job for him, if he can just maintain his temper. But getting disciplined isn't a bad thing in any way. If someone is setting high standards, it definitely won't hurt the team.
Yes, he needs to control his temper.

I would also like him to get accustomed to coaching with u19 team or even just coaching some associate team for a year or two.

I fought the HPC was Muhammed Yusuf

What's wrong with asking tips from one of the best players of spin ?

Whatever job he picks up, he will go all out in doing justice to it. He has always had an exemplary work ethic, so there will be no coasting with him for the sake of easy salary.
Therefore, I dont mind him getting a cushy salary because it will be worth the investment.
