LAHORE - The PCB is trying to rope in former speedster Shoaib Akhtar in its set-up to polish the skills of young fast bowlers in the National Cricket Academy. According to sources, Akhtar has agreed to the proposal and now both parties are in talks to finalise the contract.

Former Test batsman M Yousaf has already joined the NCA as batting consultant and the PCB is also pondering the names of Tauseef Ahmed for off-spinners and Mushtaq Ahmed for leg-spinners mentoring.

Meanwhile, a cricket stadium by the name of Test cricketer Younus Khan would also be inaugurated in Miranshah in North Waziristan Agency. The Younus Khan Cricket Stadium has been built by the Pakistan Army and an exhibition match will be played between Pakistan Army and PCB’s cricket teams on the eve of its inauguration. The construction of stadium is the result of success of Zarb-e-Azb operation that cleared the area from the terrorists and an effort to involve the tribal areas youth in healthy sporting activities.

Good to see the legends coaching in domestic and not being fast tracked to international team w/out any coaching experience. YK is such a nice man.

Very good, make use of the legends who have played the modern game... Let the media rot with players like Tanveer Ahmed for biased and trash talk..

Terrible news. These guys cant handle themselves and while being contracted under pcb and making stupid claims acusations will make pcb look bad.

Plus, this is also a new topi drama by PCB. If someone talks against them, they give them a job to shut their mouth, and it actually works

Wasn't he supposed to be the coach of a domestic team?

There's rarely a middle ground with you, you"ll advocate those who support Misbah and criticise those against him regardless of whether or not it makes sense

Cool news ... the man is very intelligent and had a great cricketing mind.

PCB targets big names: Shoaib Akhtar being considered as a consultant

http://tribune.com.pk/story/1234817/pcb-targets-big-names-akhtar-considered-consultant/

KARACHI: Former speedster Shoaib Akhtar is under consideration for the bowling consultant role as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continues its search for big names to mentor cricketers at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The PCB recently hired former batting maestro Mohammad Yousuf as a batting consultant on the recommendation of NCA director Mudassar Nazar.

Akhtar’s name has come into the reckoning due to the unavailability of former pacer Aqib Javed, whose name had earlier been finalised.

The PCB plans on hiring former cricketers as consultants for all departments the game, according to a PCB official, which means there will be separate consultants for spinners and wicketkeepers as well.

The PCB also picked Saqlain Mushtaq to mentor off-spinners but are now looking for a replacement after the former spinner was roped in by the England team as bowling consultant for their ongoing tour of India.

Likewise, former captain Rashid Latif is tipped to take the role as wicketkeeping consultant.

The NCA already has a team of coaches led by former leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed so the additional appointments have raised a few eyebrows.

But, NCA Senior General Manager Ali Zia said the appointments of such big names will be highly beneficial for young cricketers.

“The former cricketers being appointed as consultants will be assigned special tasks,” Zia told The Express Tribune. “They will be working with cricketers playing at the U16 level all the way to players of the national team.”

Zia revealed how the PCB plans on using these additional consultants. “These cricketers have loads of experience and it would be highly beneficial for our cricketers especially the youngsters,” he said.

Looks like the PSL is paying off already. The huge cash injection has given PCB the opportunity and ability to hire and afford all these big names.

Ye to kehta tha mai muft mai bowler dhund ke nikalunga.

But great to see akhtar being roped in. One thing it will ensure is that he will try to look for tear away fast bowlers rather than line and length trundlers.

 move!!

Best coaches are usually the ones who avoid controversies! Akhtar is another name for cricket controversies!
BAD CHOICE!!

No wonder for last few months, he is been spreaking sensibly on "game on hai" show...

Like those pointless Wasim Akram sessions which have never made one iota of difference to the bowlers, this is another pointless waste of money.

Who says he has not made a difference? Read what our young bowlers have to say about their sessions with akram

Anwar ali said he got his banana swing back after a session with akram. Pfftt

1) anwar ali had no banana swing, the pitch conditions is what supported him in that final
2)akhtar could only tell these guys what to do how to get themselves going, what these guys are requiered to do is practise on what is told to them.

Let's not read what they say, judge it on performance. Are you naive to think that they will say that it makes no difference.

There is always a way to give an answer.

For example, amadd butt in his every interview says that akram made a difference, now he doesnt have to say this in every interview but he does because he probably did made a difference in his bowling.

There are times when the question is not directly asked about waseem akram but the player still goes on to tell that how he helped him. Again no player has to say this if a question regarding it is not ask

Let me ask you again, which bowlers have improved after these consultative sessions with Wasim Akram?

Like i said earlier you cant expect players to become waseem akram just because akram coaches them.

He gives them tips and depending on how hard they work on it results would come.

But anwar actually said that and wasim akram also concurred. Tells you not to read and believe what young bowlers have to say about these sessions.

I hope this happens. Shoaib was doing some quality analysis on PTV when it come to bowling in the right channel. There is a video the analysis on the youtube as well.

So far we have no evidence that the tips given make any difference. Bowlers improve through self reflection, hard work and bowling to good batsman. A session here and there is a waste of time.
