A few team owners in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) are not happy with the attitude of some of their overseas signings, who they suspect are not going all out to avoid fitness/fatigue issues before the lucrative Indian Premier League.

Sources in some of the franchises competing in the PSL have said that some players have even pulled out of matches citing niggles.

“Joffra Archer is one example. He is playing for Quetta Gladiators and he pulled out of a crucial match and this didn’t exactly make the owners, management or fellow players happy,” a source said.

He said the Quetta Gladiators owner, Nadeem Omar, didn’t say anything to Archer but suspected the all-rounder was only keen on being fully fit and fresh for the IPL, which begins shortly after the PSL ends on March 25.

Archer will make his IPL debut this year and was bought for an astounding USD 800,000 by Rajasthan Royals.

Defending champions, Peshawar Zalmi, are also not happy with the unavailability of West Indian veteran all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo, who is yet to show up in the PSL third edition.

Zalmi depends heavily on the allrounder who is reportedly yet to fully recover from an injury and reach Dubai.

“It is not about the money but when you lose a player of high caliber it upsets the team’s plans,” one source said.

Bravo has been retained by Chennai Super Kings for this year’s IPL for 6.40 crore approximately USD one million.

Sources say few others in the PSL who have been auctioned in the IPL are also suspected of not giving their best and reserving their resources for the more lucrative Indian league.

Pakistan’s former Test captain, Salman Butt, says he is not surprised since there are many T20 leagues being played in the world but the IPL remains the most lucrative for players.

“Top players would prefer to be in the IPL 100 percent fit and in fresh. Because if you perform there you get richer and noticed quickly.”

The PSL is facing the problem of overseas players not being willing to travel to Pakistan for the two play-off matches in Lahore and the final in Karachi.

Don't know how true these reports but it's something I said that a problem with having the PSL in February is that overseas players will want to save themselves for the IPL.

Too much guessing going on. First it needs to be established that these players are faking injuries, but if the owners suspect they are, then they should think carefully before offering contracts to them next year. If they want to concentrate on the IPL, then the PSL franchises would be better off replacing with alternative overseas stars, or domestic players. Maybe the calibre will be slightly less, but a fit available competent player is better than a superstar on the sidelines.

These sorts of news is always going to be speculative.. no owner or player will come out and say that out in public. They quote salman butt and may be some one can reach out to Salman butt to confirm the authenticity of the news.. But the overall premise is not so far fetched.. The players will look stupid if they give their 100% and then get injured and miss IPL. I also read on this forum that some foreign players don't look all that interested (esp Mccullun).

McCullum looked plenty interested in the last game I saw. I don't have any problem with players saving themselves for IPL, but then they shouldn't be signing contracts in the PSL and should probably be resting instead. You can't have it both ways.

While the premise of players saving themselves for the lucrative IPL has legs but the whole article doesn't have one source

This is as bad as journalism gets

Reminds me of MMHS suggestion of holding PSL at the time of IPL. Would help avoid all such troubles.

They are quoting Salman Butt.. why not one of the PP team member reach out to him to confirm the news?

BCCI will throw a tantrum that shakes ICC to the core if PCB even suggests such a thing.

What can BCCI do if Pakistan decides to host its domestic tournament in that window? A part of England county cricket happen during that window.

Salman Butt is reacting to the news with the assumption this is taking place. He is not saying this has happened. Lol how do you not get that difference

yeah of course, but why not reach out to him to find out if there are any sources he is aware of. Anyway the premise itself is not all that far fetched...

What is the logic behind hosting the ESL (Empty Stadiums League) with the IPL simultaneously?

It would only serve to dilute the quality of the ESL further. It is rubbish already, but it will probably become a complete joke if that happens.

There are a few decent players in the ESL who play in the IPL as well. There is no way they would honor their ESL contracts over their IPL ones.

The tragedy is that if you give the Pakistani players a chance of playing in the IPL over the ESL? Every single one of them would opt for the former.

The ESL will continue to be a third class competition as long as players are unwilling to play in Pakistan. Rescheduling the tournament or changing the venue is not going to make much of a difference.

Hosting it in Pakistan will transform it from ESL to PSL, but there is no point if the world class players are not participating in it.

A PSL at home that is dominated by home players and a few fringe international players - associates, retired players etc. would be nothing more than fancy, repackaged National T20 Cup.

It will have more support because of the PSL brand and the fan following of the franchises, but the quality of cricket will still be poor. We cannot side-step the inclusion of quality foreign players.

There is no way around it.

A PSL in Pakistan could be a decent Asian Super League minus India.

Players like Tamim, Shakib, Amla, Tahir, Rashid, Moeen, Fizz could be top drawer.

Obviously there will be some non Asians too. I’d expect quite a few West Indians to be willing to play.

Indian news paper pushing out sensationalist content because that's what their people feed off. Look at them be sure of the 'sources' and 'premise'. LOL.

News denied by QG on twitter.
so turns out Hindustan Times tried to pass fiction off as news. Shocking that so many people believed them.

PSL needs to be held after the IPL and maybe look at other options outside UAE as well.

The current season of PSL needs 1-2 cracking games to turn it around. Just hasn't happened yet.

So news got denied fair enough.. Even if it was true QG owners won’t confirm it for obvious reasons.. If it was false then probably HT trying to belittle PSL/Pakistan by saying players prefer India/IPL over them, works in current public sentiment..

Same as players giving less effort in LOI to save them for Tests.

Here the scenario is between PSL and IPL !

ESL? At least show some respect to your own league. Its all fair and good about being a realist but this is disrespectful imo.

It dosen't have to be fear, maybe its hate. Whatever the reason, some elements in India seem to have a problem with PSL for no clear reason.

There is hardly any media coverage of psl. In my city both the newspapers that i subscribe to, no.1 and 2 in circulation, they dont even mention the psl score card in the sports page.

Yea same in Bangalore...not much coverage. Only we few die hard cricket fans follow, that too only in PP not even in cricket sites !

lol why would newspapers carry PSL scorecards

Many Pakistani papers dont do that either. Its a league. Doest happen for ipl or bbl either. Heck there arent reports on those as well iirc

Brother...response was for the post saying India doing it to PSL because of hate.. gave facts so that to remove any such delusions.

Not many in India care about PSL... same with BBL, CPL etc.

Majority of Indian fans watch only Ind matches + IPL. Few exceptions watch every form of Cricket.

There is no ill feeling from BCCI / IPL / GOI / we Indian fans towards PSL as per my knowledge !

Disgraceful Journalism

All professional sportspersons today look after their bodies to prolong their careers and ensure they maintain the same standard. Please get over your delusions, IPL is nice no doubt but players give their all and enjoy themselves in other leagues just as much if not more. PSL the way it treats its foreign players like royals has already been a favotire among international players and ex players since couple of years. It is the second most popular T20 league in the world today and in terms of quality probably #1. Give respect where it's due.

Someone like Mustafiz gonna play in IPL for MI and likely to start in most games but he has been bowling well in PSL and giving his 100%. His pace is nearing 140 as we speak. He has played 3 games and bowled under 6 rpo

I am sure the players are giving their best but the reality is february isn't the best season in the world for PSL.

Another question is, how will PSL be held next year?

The competition here between media houses is quite fierce. But they usually don’t report anything fake (unless there is a political angle to it). I don’t think this is fake news. A fake news should bring some benefit, which I don’t see. I’m sure 95% of Indians don’t even care about news like these. Cricket itself is getting less popular here.

Coming to the issue, players who try to do that should be kicked out. I mean, how much can you tolerate. Some aren’t ready to come to Pak, some are preserving themselves for the IPL...

ok. though last year cricketgateway.com which streams PSL had its highest traffic from India (or 2nd highest maybe after Pak)

There was no coverage of psl in india and whoever wanted to watch would have to watch online. The exact number was never revealed by the website.

Agree with most of your post...

Not sure about 2 points ..... 'PSL treats foreign players like Royals (every league must do that with guests)' and 'PSL is 1st in terms of quality' :ashwin

ok. though last year cricketgateway.com which streams PSL had its highest traffic from India (or 2nd highest maybe after Pak)

Like I said few hard core fans tuning in will be enough to come second in viewership list.

More than 1 billion people in India ....If you combine population of all other test playing nations may not come anywhere close to India!

Yea Indians are afraid of the empty stadiums.

Han han, wohi to. Its clear that you dont like pakistan to have their own league, only IPL should have all the accolades and nobody else deserves it. The stadiums might not be full in Sharjah and Dubai but that was the case in the first 2 years also, it is crazy popular with pakistanis back home and pakistanis that live across the globe hence why its running in its 3rd year and hence why an additional team has been added this year. And wait till the semi finals and finals are played in Pakistan the craze is gonna go up 20 levels and the players gonna be treated like gods and needless to say its gonna be a full house on all those games in Pakistan.

PSL is not a rival of IPL. IPL has far more popularity. Its idiocy to even compare them.

Please try these consipracy theories elsewhere.

No they are just bitter. India have the IPL, they keep telling us they have the best league, are a great nation etc but can't stomach Pakistan having their own league?

Pathetic loser mentality from this nation.

PSL is hardly noticed in India. Its so immaterial that it didnt even get a broadcast channel in India for 2years. Now also its on a new mostly unknown channel.

Hardly anybody cares.

This victim mentality is laughable.

Not sure where you are getting the victim mentality. IPL is more popular than PSL and will always be.
But PSL has done more for Pakistan cricket than the IPL has in its entire tenure.

The Hindustan times noticed it and Indian posters are quick to discuss it on here.

The whole article is garbage aimed at demeaning the PSL. Players will give it their all when they are paid well to play in any league. It makes no sense for players to save themselves for another league risking their future jobs for the league they are playing for now.

PSL has nothing to do with India, there are no Indian players. The Indian media and their fans should mind their own business.

HT has published a news article. If its demeaning then the persons mentioned should sue HT.

Look at the results and change of fortunes since the inception of the two leagues for their respective national teams. It's not a jab at Indian cricket at all.

India won a WC , Champions Trophy , reached T20 final , semifinal , WC 2015 semi , CT 2017 final. I don't think Pakistan has done more than that.

Disagree... PSL is cricket league hence there will be discussions cricket forum PP.

Even though Pak players are not playing in IPL from past 8 or 9 years ...that didn't stop PPers to discuss or degrade IPL.

Learn to take criticism; if possible defend...

End of the day IPL and PSL both are there for making money for respective boards and players.

We can just have healthy cricketing banter...'Mera kilohna acha hain tumse' and vice versa :19:

2011 WC
2013 CT
No 1 ranking in almost all the format
Kohli
Dhawan
Sharma
Bumrah
Bhuvi
Ashwin
Jadeja
Chahal
Kuldeep
Pandya

The list is long
IPL changed the face of Indian Cricket

Since inception of IPL india has won 2011 WC, CT 2013, T20WC and CT 2018 finals. No.1 test team for a number of years.

I dont know wgat you are on about.

It’s all about money first and foremost. And India is way ahead of any other cricketing country. And there is a crazy following of the game. Of course players will prioritize IPL, they are paid better there, more parties there and all the media attention is on them because it is played in India.

And with all the population, the craze, the money and Security situation, if IPL still can not be the best league in World I think they can shut it down and start start playing gully danda instead. The expextations are high.

PSL with it’s resources are doing well but it can not be compared to IPL, not in current times at least.

So I don’t understand the bragging of some of the Indian posters on here, you have to have the best league, you have no excuses, otherwise just start something else.

And Pakistani posters should also stop comparing PSL with IPL, they are not the same, for obvious reasons.

Sensible post there ...agree ! I don't see any Indian's bragging about IPL these days, just see few defending IPL if anything offensive said with hate for obvious reasons :19:

So Dwayne Bravo himself has confirmed what was being said about him. Looks like the reports were true.

1992-World Champions, 1999-Finalists, 2007-T20 finalists (Misbah creates the IPL), 2009 T20 World champions....countless semis and the one to trump everything- 2017 Champions Trophy massacre of India when no one gave Pakistan a chance.
As it stands, Pakististan will have the 'Bragging rights' until India can beat us in a Major Final.

If no one gave Pak a chance than at best it is a lucky incidence and at least a fluke. Looking at the way Pak Posters brag about it on PP it is evidently a fluke.. The way you guys celebrate, it is obvious none of you gave a chance and pretty surprised that Pak won. Goes to show where you stand in cricketing world. Pak is just a mediocre team as of now with may be, just may be an upward swing and nowhere near the top three team. India is comfortably top three team in all three formats.. So i can understand why Pak PPers celebrate their CT win so much (CT itself is hardly popular with perennially on the verge of being cancelled)

Never seen a single Indian poster brag here. But I constantly see talks of how IPL is over-rated or thrash or did nothing for India which the India posters reply to

Aren't we talking but the impact IPL and PSL made? Did you even read the post and the topic before spamming about stuff? Someone asked what impact IPL made and poster replied. You started spamming about things in 92. What is the relevance here?

Not sure why the PSL Franchise owners are blaming the PCB. It is up to the PSL Franchise owners to sign up Foreign players who are willing to tour Pakistan. It is up to the PSL Franchises to convince the Foreign players, their wives and family members to let them tour Pakistan. It is up to the PSL Franchise owners to have such iron clad agreements in the contracts which they sign with Foreign players where the foreign players will have to pay a penalty and forego a significant amount of payment if they decide to withdraw from the PSL at the last moment. If the likes of Javed Afridi, Salman Iqbal, Ali and Amna Naqvi can convince foreign players to tour Pakistan, then Nadeem Umar and co cannot have any excuses.

The PCB is just facilitating the holding of the PSL and has no involvement with the Franchises and how they go about their affairs after that.

By here, do you mean this forum? If Yes, Then you really should look harder. Some posters only seem to be on this forum to prove that IPL is superior to PSL.

Thought Indian fans were past getting burned by the CT loss. Guess not.

Atleast a glance at the context of my post will help. Phew.. such a defensive mindset.

On course to make myself available for the first game of IPL 2018: Chris Lynn

It’s tracking really nicely. It’s a short turnaround with the timeframe that we’ve got but it’s all going well,” Lynn said to cricket.com.au.

“The docs and the physios are happy so that’s all I can do. Fingers crossed I can keep going in the right direction and try to make myself available for the first game of the IPL. If not, it’s not the end of the world but I’m doing everything I can to get back out there. I’ve had a bat during the week just on throwdowns, so I’ll ramp it up next week against ‘Cuttsy’ and Billy Stanlake. If I can get through those two blokes, I’ll know I’m going okay,” Lynn said.
