KARACHI: Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has written to the PCB that his outburst directed at coach Mickey Arthur was result of mental duress and pressure.

Akmal, in his reply to the PCB show-cause, admitted to breaching the players' code of conduct and promised he will not behave in such manner in future.

Akmal has been in trouble since he had an altercation with Arthur at the National Cricket Academy last month and rushed to the media to claim that he had been abused by the foreign coach.

"Umar has basically admitted that he should not have gone to the media and made accusations against Arthur and he has asked the PCB to accept his explanation and assured them he will not repeat his mistake again," one source said.

The PCB had asked for an explanation from the Pakistani batsman for going to the media without seeking permission from the Board and then making accusations against the coach.

Akmal in his first reply had called on the PCB Chairman Najam Sethi to appoint an independent committee to probe the incident and said he would be willing to serve any punishment if found guilty of misbehaving with Arthur.

Sethi appointed a four-member committee to probe the matter and was not satisfied with Akmal's reply and subsequently issued him a second notice giving him ten-day time to respond.

The source said Akmal had consulted his father in law -- former Test leg spinner Abdul Qadir -- who had advised him to avoid a confrontation path with Arthur and the board.

"Qadir advised him to accept his mistake and seek pardon. Umar in his reply has said that he reacted the way he did because he has been under lot of mental strain and duress in recent months but he had gone to the national cricket academy after getting permission from batting coach Grant Flower," the source added.

:))) Such a dramabaaz.

This guy should be working Bollywood films not playing cricket. Makes a big scene then pleads for forgiveness.

I look forward to the next plot twist in his career.

We need to give credit where due, for once he has shown a bit of accountability ! And the reason is actually understandable to an extent, mentally he's not quiet there and I also hope he gets help in that area to. Apology accepted Umar Akmal. Just focus on your cricket now.

You've got to be kidding me. He was bound to apologize one day or another.

Bollywood won't accept nobodies like him. Plus, actors also have to be in shape.

What apology? PCB should now punish him to breach the conduct by banning him for atleast a year. If opology is all that matter, sharjeel, irfan, shahzaib, salman, asif, amir etc all apologise but they were punushed.

Why should I be judgemental piece of crap like the rest, even more so when the man has apologised and displayed a bit of accountability for once, low lives will always find a way to complain about something though, in this instance an apology ! :mv :yk2

:(

This sucks. I was hoping for a court battle and all.

Looks like Mian Sharif & his family hasn't sunken alone ...................

Umar's godfather has finally told him to give up - barkhurdar, shudhar jao, tumahrey naiya utarna aab mere baas ke baat nahin .......

This guy Umar Akmal is such a tool - didn't even notice than his foundation has cracked till the building collapsed!!!!

I don't expect this guy to be back until after the next PSL

Lol just let your bat do the talking now please? Sick of hearing him in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

BTW it highlights how messed up a situation this is when Abdul Qadir is the voice of reason...

Umar Akmal probably thinks he is Bruce Wayne in the pit.

What he doesn't realize is that he was never Batman in the first place.

He is a legend in the making. Give it a few years and these same people mocking him will be carrying Umar Akmal profile pictures with him holding Ballon d'Or trophy.

He's fine. He should know it's not him but his stylist who's been under mental strain all this while.

What was the mental strain? local sweet shop run out lollipops? What an imbecile!

oh for gods sake shaz.

we all know tomorrow Umar akmal will be bringing in another problem.

His drama is not gonna end here.

Do you think he had any other option?

Umar Akmal is a nobody now with no credibility in the cricket world

He is just trying to save whatever's left of his sorry career and reputation

Nothing big of him here

Get it in your head Umer that your career could be over as you are not good enough. Your mistakes would have been forgiven if you were. It is not as if you killed someone.

h:mouaha I never knew he was planning on becoming a footballer!

Exactly, BTW, I this updated statement makes more sense

"Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has written to the PCB that his outburst directed at coach Mickey Arthur was result of mental duress and pressure ever since he was born."

I mean how else he can explain his idi.otic behavior all these years

Where are all the posters who were blaming Mickey for this incident gone? :)))

fingers crossed..

hoping for Umar to deny this report

But don't you need a brain to have "mental" strain? So exactly which part of this guy's body was under strain when everyone knows that he doesn't have one?!

umar u legend.. pcb should offer him a central contract just for this apology.. he is our only hope for next ODI worldcup win..

This guy is petulant, abrasive and unprofessional, he is a nightmare to manage and utterly horrendous. Needs to be dumped for good.

Agreed.

This sort of behaviour is acceptable when you are clearly the best player in the team.

On performance he is at best a fringe player.

PCB messed up with talented Umar, he is the best talent to come out of Pakistan.. Mickey should be sacked ASAP and Umar drafted back in the team probably as VC..

Agree, if he was a strong performer then it would be just about bearable, but for a negative net worth contributor the next step is a no-brainer. Needs to be permanently put out to pasture.

well he is better then Kohli his centuries mean nothing... and Kohli can't take U turns like U-Akmal.

So we should make Umar the Captain of our odi test and t20 team and also keeper and batsman at number 3 position :yk2

But apart from that he's a really reasonable guy and the future of Pakistani fashion.

Mickey is an Englishman after all (born in J'burg, but he is from British roots) - I think, a good one on one conversation in proper spirit from Umar (may be with tea & cookies) can resurrect his career, because Mickey is a pro & he can raise above personal ego in bigger interest. Everything can be resolved, but Umar has to prove his fitness & hunger; otherwise these chip tricks won't help as long as Arthur is in charge. Sarfraz, neither Ul-Haq also won't interfere here, over-ruling Arthur.

Junaids - what do you think - is it possible for Umar to play during Arthur's tenure, if he can pass the fitness test & make the team on merit?

Assuming the article is true, he should be made to go before the media and apologise in front of the nation. Live by the sword etc...

Bhai kya umar hi sirf ek batsman h Pakistan m jo umar ko itni attention mil rahi h.. he doesn't do anything for the team... he is like a burden for the team..try other batsmen who are more sincere and more dedicated towards the team Not umar type jockers. Give chance to umar amin or any other batsmen but please say big no to umar...he is a torture for the team and fans...

Umar is annoyed with the fact the MA dropped him out of the squad. This cost UA close 2.5 crore and that for a pea brained player is galling.

Blah blah blah.. i would take Azhar Ali type of player " fit ,focused ,determined etc" over a so called natural talent with no brain, keep him out for at least a year please PCB, there's still a little part of me hoping he fixes himself in a year but doubt it

One thing I don't get.

Why do people make it seem as if discipline an fitness are the only things wrong with Umar Akmal?

Why is an impression given that if he figured out these two things then he has a place in the team

The fact is that based on cricket alone he doesn't make the team

This little part has been hoping for 8 years now

He should be back in the team asap, Greatest talent in the world being wasted because of silly stuff like this. Everyone make mistakes. Just bring him back and groom him for captaincy when for when sarfraz retires

It's a no-brainer tbh. We don't even need a coach then, he can be player-captain-coach. 3 in 1 package.

As expected from Umar.

He knew he was in the wrong and had nowhere to turn.

Play the stress card and hope it's alright.

Let me take a slightly different tack.

All Arthur's comments for the last year made me think that Umar Akmal was next in line for a Test berth.

Arthur now sees what is wrong in the guy's head. The question is, does he think he's worth the effort to carry him around with the squad?

But Mickey insulted the whole Pakistan.... The nation!!!!! As a true Pakistani, how he can forgive that and make this U turn just for the sake of his career?

Just because U is his initial, it doesn't mean he can use it whatever way he likes. Principles naam ka cheez hain bhai.

True - don't think Arthur bothers much about personal mud slinging; but he must be confused now - what else I can do for a guy already given 6/7 chances!!!!!

I think, his other wrong things are function of discipline, fitness & attitude - not his cricket skills. If those three can be fixed, he is easily the MVP of the LO side - a player who can win from No. 5/6 & can keep.

If you notice carefully - Arthur said that Ahmed needs to fix his game in domestics, which indicates that it's skill; true that Ahmed's game didn't move forward from 2013, in fact regressed. For Umar, Arthur gave him 6/7 chances to get himself established; and still telling in the line of his fitness, attitude - not his technical skills.

The guy is an !d!ot, which was evident when he allowed Sarfraz to stanch his WK-batsman role, 4 months before WC - now what he is doing is beyond idiocy.

Mr UA. You are history now if not I hope you are... and unfortunately we 'll have to hear from you for the next few years more and after that when you 'll be old and no chance for a comeback You 'll sing the song of "Never given the chance, had talent" same we hear from your brother time to time..

Will be back in the news again next month. How many times has he promised not to repeat.
Pak should give up on him until he realises where he is head to and start putting on efforts to win back his place. He must be forced to wait like fawad, Maqsood and so on. Just one performance this idiot will come to media to seek attention along with his brother dropmal advocating for his return after one good knock.

He may have saved his domestic and 20/20 franchise slogging career.

But the door should be firmly shut and bolted down firmly regarding his Pak career.

Growing up it was always the pretty boys in school that acted like brats.

Can someone please clarify why UA acts this way?
