Indian fans are slowly turning against Kohli. Just check out the comments section of any online newspaper today.

Fair to say we have never liked the flash harry types long term.
How long before Rahane takes over as Test captain? :13:

LOI captain is a tough one though.

New India coach should ‘get along’ with Kohli

India are likely to favour a new coach who can “get along” with Virat Kohli, cricket officials indicated Friday, after Anil Kumble stepped aside following a row with the captain.

Former opener Virender Sehwag and Australia’s Tom Moody are reported to have applied as coach, but Ravi Shastri may also now become a candidate after Kumble’s departure, Indian media said.

Spin-bowling great Kumble withdrew from the running for a new contract on Tuesday, saying his position had become “untenable” after a breakdown in relations with Kohli.

The new coach for the world’s number one Test team will be decided by the three-man advisory committee of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

“The advisory committee are adept at getting the right man but they would certainly have the Kumble episode at the back of their mind while selecting the new coach,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

“Even though Kohli has no role in the selection, a person who will get along with the captain is always good for the team and who better than Sachin, Sourav and Laxman to know how the captain-coach relationship works,” the official said.

Since Kumble’s unhappy exit, a one-year old tweet welcoming the former leg-spinner to the coach’s post has been deleted from Kohli’s Twitter feed.

A top BCCI official told AFP that candidates might have had reservations if Kumble was seeking an extension, but now it is now an open field.

Shastri worked with Kohli as team director before Kumble became coach in June last year, and is said to have a good relationship with the captain.

Kohli, now leading India’s West Indies tour, said on Thursday that dressing room matters should be “sacred and private”.

“His point of view is out there and we respect that decision,” Kohli said in Port of Spain on Thursday, when asked to comment on Kumble’s departure.

“I have total respect for him as a cricketer and what he has achieved. There’s no taking away that aspect of him at all and we respect him totally,” Kohli added.

Acting BCCI president CK Khanna has said a new coach will be named before India start their tour of Sri Lanka in July.

Kohli is a class batsman and individual. he has won numerous matches for India and scored 17 centuries while chasing and winning the matches. times have changed and one cant expect players to behave the way players behaved in the 1980's and 1990's. It has to be a give and take of ideas and plans. Kohli has been a thourough gentleman to fans, kids and opponents.

Chief Coach Should Get 60% Of Captain's Earnings: Anil Kumble's Proposal To BCCI

The former head coach had proposed significant hikes in coach fees in the proposal sent to the board.

Anil Kumble had suggested significant hikes in the remunerations of the coaching staff of the Indian cricket team. In a proposal regarding the restructuring of the contracts that he had sent to the Indian cricket board, Kumble had demanded that the "chief coach should earn 60 percent of the captains' estimated earnings". The document also supported national coaches "earning from IPL" to "augment their income" without specifying whether it amounts to 'Conflict of Interest'.
Kumble had also suggested that 20 percent of the players' Central Contracts should be variable pay based on their "fitness standards".
PTI has access to Kumble's presentation, which he submitted on Committee Of Administrators' (COA) behest during the final of the IPL on May 21.
Titled 'Restructuring of Remuneration And Contracts of Personnel Of The Indian Cricket Team', Kumble, on Page 12 of the document, proposed a hike for the support staff.
Under Point No 10 'The Suggested Change: Enablers', the former skipper had given a four-column tabulation chart.
'Enablers' is a terminology Kumble used for the team's support staff.
While suggesting a hike of Rs 7.5 crore from the 'current' Rs 6.5 crore, Kumble in the 'Remarks' column wrote: "At 60 percent of Captains' estimated earnings'. Eligible for 30 percent of his salary as variable bonus on team performance".
Kumble's proposal is an indicator that whenever Virat Kohli would have earned more from the BCCI, his own earnings would have gone up proportionately.
The chart also suggested that Sanjay Bangar's salary be hiked from current Rs 1 crore to Rs 2.25 crore while R Sridhar should get Rs 1.75 crore instead of the current Rs 1 crore with "retrospective effect" from June 1, 2016.
However, something that has caught the attention of BCCI mandarins is his suggestion of national coaches "earning from IPL".
Interestingly, former COA member Ramachandra Guha, in his parting shot, had written about national coaches "moonlighting" for IPL teams which he termed as a clear case of Conflict of Interest.
Many had perceived it as Guha's veiled dig at Rahul Dravid, who doubled up as India A and U-19 as well Delhi Daredevils franchise.
However, Kumble in Page 11, Point No 9 stated: "Guidelines for Enablers" stated: "The Players are kept out of the contracts during two months IPL window. Similarly, the Coaches too need to be kept put of contract allowing them to be a part of the IPL -- this will enable them to augment their earnings and gain more experience particularly for the T20 games."
A BCCI official, who has studied Kumble's proposal document, told PTI: "While a lot of issues are pertinent but even his proposal on IPL is contrary to what Guha had written in his letter.
"If we go by what Guha had written, what Anil had demanded is a clear case of 'Conflict of Interest'."
While he had suggested separate 'Red and White Ball' retainership contracts, there was one interesting point about a portion of Players' 'retainership fees' or central contract money being linked as a "variable pay" subject to maintaining "fitness and Other Team Standards".
As per Page 6 under Point No.5 'Suggested Changes: Players', Kumble had given another four-column tabulation chart.
Under the remarks Column for the 'Annual Retainership Fees' for Tests, ODIs and T20s, Kumble wrote: "20 percent of the Retainer money can be given subject to a player managing his fitness levels and other team fitness standards during the year."
Among other demands where "defined amounts" instead of "ad-hoc payments" for various wins like Rs 2 crore per player for 50-over World Cup while Champions Trophy and World T20 should carry a prize money of Rs 1 crore per player, each.
He had demanded "Superannuation fund from a part of Retainer Fee-access to post retirement" -- a 'Benefit Package' with compound interest.
This is like companies deducting a portion of an employee's salary for Provident Fund and Gratuity.

Lovely to see holier-than-thou comments from the Pakistanis here. Do you want to me reproduce some of the things Pakistani cricketers said to Kumble *on the field* (where the TV mics could catch it, not in the privacy of the dressing room) during his playing days?

If I were to write those thing verbatim I'll probably get banned from this forum right away!

Kohli's ego will always get the better of him. It's very likely he will always want to be the aggressor in the coach-captain relationship and I don't see him working well with any coach that takes too much of an initiative or goes against his approach. I read recently that he also paid a big hand in getting his South African coach Ray Jennings at RCB sacked who even said that: "He's a good kid but he sometimes thinks he's better than the game". Kohli has clearly changed the culture of the Indian team aswell if he has gotten 10 players to vouch for him. Whoever the next coach is better beware.

I suppose we will get to know the full story of the Kohli-Kumble conflict in their respective autobiographies.

Kohli's aggressiveness is over rated, everytime under the pump he goes into a defensive clueless shell which he has shown many times as a captain.

I'm not sure how far you can go with this mentality of selecting coaches that get along with Kohli. I can see a Chappal-Ganguly saga repeat itself soon

He is always abusing in the field so i am not really surprised if he did it in anger.

I hope these reports are absolutely false.

No need of coach if Virat Kohli thinks he's boss of Indian cricket: Erapalli Prasanna

Kolkata: Former India off-spinner Erapalli Prasanna yesterday took a dig at Virat Kohli saying that if the skipper feels he is the "boss" of Indian cricket then the team can do without a coach.

Prasanna sounded cynical in his response when asked about the rift between Kohli and Anil Kumble, who quit as India's head coach coach recently.

"Why do they require a coach, if the captain is the boss? I don't think they even need the services of batting or fielding coaches (Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar)," the former spin great told PTI.

Prasanna also questioned Kohli's captaincy abilities. "Kohli is undoubtedly a very good player, but I do not know whether he is a good captain or not," he said.

Kumble quit as India coach in the aftermath of their Champions Trophy final loss to arch-rivals Pakistan, stating that Kohli had reservations about his coaching "style" and that their partnership was "untenable."

The Indian team will be without a coach in the tour to the West Indies, where they play five ODIs and one-off T20 match starting at Port of Spain on Friday.

"If a legendary cricketer like Anil Kumble is not respected, I do not think neither of them -- Bangar and Sridhar -- will have the guts to speak to Kohli in a confident way. None of them are as experienced like Kumble," Prasanna said.

"Just hire somebody for the physical training and that will be enough. If such is the attitude of a captain, I don't think you require a coach," the 77-year-old said, seemingly upset with Kohli's behaviour. "We can go back to the good old days of appointing a manager to look after logistics. The role of a coach is not defined."

This deteriorated rapidly didn't it, who knows what the story was behind the scenes and we will probably find out in due course, the fact that Kumble felt the need to write something on social media about it highlights that the relationship was always on edge.

I remember Sanjay manjrekar on commentary saying he was once talking to inzamam ul haq when he was Pakistani caption and inzy said that Kumble not only gets angry when you hit boundaries against him but also when you just stand there and block them, he was never happy. Maybe Kumble not as clean cut as his public persona is. Kumble known to throw tantrums when things do the go his way.

We know kohli's aggressiveness and at times he can look like a that at times but maybe Kumble no angel either.

Funny people are jumping to the conclusion without even having knowledge of the facts. None of us know the entire story behind the curtains. Easy to hate and blame Kohli for the whole debacle specially considering that we suffered one of our worst defeats lately that too in the finals and that too against our arch rivals ..... and that too in an ICC Tournament. And keep in mind the entire team was not in favor of Kumble continuing as the coach. Could it be that the problem was with Kumble himself?

Kumble has never had great success in coaching roles. He was pretty poor as Mentor to RCB and later Mumbai Indians.

Manager's report gives clean chit to Virat Kohli on differences with coach Anil Kumble

New Delhi, July 2: India captain Virat Kohli has got an all clear in administrative manager Kapil Malhotra's report on his differences with coach Anil Kumble, which primarily led to the former leg-spinner's exit after the Champions Trophy.

While the administrative manager's report is mandatory after every home or away series that India plays, it is usually perceived as a formality.

In the wake of Kumble's resignation though, the BCCI had specifically instructed Cricket Club of India (CCI)'s Malhotra to report any incident of discord between Kohli and Kumble when the team was in England.

However, it has been learnt that Malhotra's report does not have mention of any controversial incidents.

"Kapil Malhotra has submitted his report. At least there is nothing in the report which suggests that skipper Virat Kohli was ever rude to the coach or mention of any incident which could be termed as a breach of discipline," a BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on condition of anonymity.

When pointed out that coach and the captain were not interacting with each other during practice sessions, the official replied: "He was specifically asked to mention any incident worth reporting which may have affected the dressing room environment or morale of the team. Nothing of that sort is there in the report."

It must be noted in this regard that BCCI has also sought reports from Anil Patel, who was the administrative manager during the 13 home Tests that India played during the season.

Malhotra is currently with the team in the West Indies and this will be the last assignment of any state unit official as administrative manager.

The administrative manager for West Indies tour was supposed to be Milind Kanmadikar of Madhya Pradesh CA but it was decided by the Committee of Administrators (COA) that Malhotra would continue for the West Indies leg.

It is expected that the board will hire a full-time manager, abolishing the convention set by the old guard of handing overseas 'junkets' to the state unit officials in order to keep their vote bank intact.

The BCCI is all set to conduct the coaches' interview in Mumbai on July 10 with Ravi Shastri emerging as the favourite to come back.

The other two high-profile names are Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody. Richard Pybus, Venkatesh Prasad, Dodda Ganesh are the other candidates.

Sehwag as India coach would be hilarious! The guy shows no management skills whatsoever. A great player does not translate into a great coach. He has no coaching experience, has no personality, no management experience and talks absolute rubbish in interviews. Please make him coach!

Top comments from a great of Indian cricket, totally agreed.

Maybe now Kohli can also open the bowling, keep wickets and do all the fielding as well while having his tongue out wagging to do all the sledging on his own as well LOL

Zee news has low rating so out of desperation can create such masala news to earn extra viewership . I would trust Times now, Cnn in or republic more than this channel

Kohli - you da man....keep it up...captain he to be the alpha...no doubt.
Go Kumble go !!!!Go Kumble go !!!!Go Kumble go !!!!Go Kumble go !!!!Go Kumble go !!!!Go Kumble go !!!

Kohli has way too much ego for someone who, in the past 6 months or so has comprehensively failed at negating the slightest bit of quality spin, swing, seam and bounce. Someone needs to put this guy in his place. If it were to him, we'd be having a 40 test failure in Rohit Sharma than a solid Test No.3 in Pujara who he oh so desperately tried to keep out of the team on multiple occasions.

I used to consider Kumble to be an honourable man until I became aware of his utter indifference to his own conflicts of interest prior to being appointed coach.

It seems as if something goes wrong in the ethical development of Indian cricketers, almost certainly because even the educated ones like Kumble are never formally educated in management prior to occupying such positions.

It really undermines the development of Indian cricket. They should be rich and powerful, but they let the administrators squander vast sums on paying for local votes and end up living hand to mouth from one ICC welfare handout to the next.

Virat Kohli Needs To Understand How Coaches Operate: Sourav Ganguly

Former India captain and CAC member Sourav Ganguly on Monday sent out a terse message to Virat Kohli, saying the Indian captain will need to understand how coaches operate in the wake of his infamous fallout with Anil Kumble. The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman besides Ganguly, has put the appointment of next India coach on hold despite completion of the interview process.

"Virat will need to understand how coaches operate. At the same time, you have to give credit to Kohli that he has stayed out of the coach selection process. We will have a detailed chat with him once he is back from the West Indies," said Ganguly.

The CAC interviewed five candidates for the post of head coach and at the end of it said that they needed more time to come to a final decision. Tendulkar joined in through video conference.

Ganguly made it clear that they are looking at the bigger picture for the next two years and will take a decision in the best interest of Indian cricket.

"The process is done. All presentations were outstanding. We just want to talk more with people who matter. We all have to be on the same page. Whoever comes will be in charge till the 2019 World Cup. And we want to make sure there is no differences of opinion six months down the line."

Virender Sehwag, Ravi Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Tom Moody and Richard Pybus were the ones interviewd.

Asked about the inputs taken from Kohli in the meetings during the Champions Trophy, Ganguly said, "That was on a different aspect. As I said, he has stayed out of the whole thing.

"We want to make sure we take the best possible decision for Indian cricket. The coach, captain and players are the ones who will take Indian cricket forward. The CAC goes out of the picture once the coach is selected."

Ganguly hinted that the coach will be picked before the Sri Lanka tour that begins with the first Test on July 26. Kumble resigned from the head coach's post just after the ICC Champions Trophy final against Pakistan last month due to "untenable" differences with skipper Kohli.

I am stocking up on Soda and Popcorn just in case Sehwag or Shastri get elected; these two have huge egos and loud mouths to go along. Obviously Kohli is the reigning champ in these categories...what a bombaastic couple (any of these two combinations) this will make LOL

Aanaay do, jaldi jaldi aanaay do bhai:sk:mv

Sastri is Kohli's older version, they got along very well. Sastri is laid back on rules and regulation and only interferes into matters when he needs to. Sastri is better suited than Kumble. Sehwag will never be a coach of any properly organized team.
