Several senior Pakistan cricketers, including former captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, have allegedly been caught in a Ponzi scheme that could result in losses running into millions of rupees, according to a source.

The matter has reportedly come to the notice of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which is understood to be examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial fraud. The source said around a dozen current players, including Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan, along with a former Test captain, are believed to have invested substantial sums with a Pakistani businessman who has since left the country.

According to the source, the businessman, who was known to several players and had links to sponsoring franchises in the Pakistan Super League, initially made regular profit payments for a few months. However, the payments were later stopped, raising concerns among the investors.

When approached by the affected players, the businessman reportedly claimed he had suffered heavy losses, including the invested amounts and his own funds, and was therefore unable to return the money. Subsequently, he stopped responding to calls and messages and left the country, the source said.

The source added that many of the players had invested not only their personal savings but also funds belonging to relatives and close associates. He said the arrangement was essentially a Ponzi scheme that eventually collapsed, leaving the players facing the prospect of significant financial losses.

According to the source, the total amount invested by the cricketers and their associates could exceed one billion rupees.

@Rana was it you who advised them to invest here? lol
I think it’s Karma.

The amount of money these guys (Babar and Rizwan) have accumulated through fraud and deception with franchise cricket, by holding the PCB hostage through central contract….and then the greed to multiply it through business investments!

This is deserved!

Never invest in a pyramid scheme. They use the money paid by new members to pay dividends to old members. Once people start withdrawing, the money starts to dwindle , the scheme collapses , leaving almost all investors with losses .

Greedy people fall for this , that is the trick target such people. You have to be pretty stupid to give money to someone , do nothing and expect to make huge profits

Speaks about the IQ of our team when so called seniors and “stars” are this bholey

Only invest in well-reputable and well-established companies.

It is better not to invest in new companies no matter how promising they sound. I hope they have learned their lessons. :inti

They could've probably doubled their money if they invested in gold/silver instead.

This is Pakistan we are talking about. Even the well established companies are riddled with Corruption. Its a harsh lesson they will have to stomach and move on.

Good point.

I generally avoid individual stocks. I focus on a handful of cryptos (Bitcoin primarily), gold, silver, and 2-3 halal ETFs.

I think gold and silver are the safest. Gold is very battle-tested and time-tested. 5000 years of legacy.

First that Yazoo company with Inzimam and Rizwan as directors

Now this…Inzimam, Rizwan, Babar all involved again. What is it with these guys and their dodgy money business? If I recall, the business set up by Inzimam and Rizwan was to sell bike helmets?! How the hell does any of that make sense?

@shaz619 @TheSultan @topspin @Slim @YousafTheBeast

I would love it if Inzi chinned them both & took all their money

Yep. Investing in Gold and Silver is the best investment at the moment.

Crypto is way to volatile for my liking at the moment.

This reminds me of an episode of My Family where the Harpers got involved in a ponzy scheme :)

It still baffles me on why anyone would invest in anything other than an ETF (halal one).
There are so many studies on this topic. Even hedge funds don’t beat the S&P500.
People really are stupid and greedy.

Literally, if you have extra money. Invest it in an ETF. Don’t have to do any due diligence. Stress about market fluctuations. 8-12% return annually.

Take it from someone, who has done it all: crypto, real estate, REITs, individual stocks, savings accounts etc.

NOTHING beats ETF over long term.

Agree with this in principle. However, I would recommend a global index rather than S&P alone. Especially with that orange mentalist in currently charge of the world.

Yes. I am also pausing crypto investments. I may not add much to my crypto portfolio until Trump is out of the office. This madman is bad for crypto industry. :inti

Anyway, gold should still be the safest. Trump or no Trump.
