Mickey and the rest of the coaching staff deserve the boot. Inzamam has been a better selector than Aamir Sohail, Iqbal Qasim, Haroon Rahid, etc.
People celebrating Eid over removal of Inzamam are blinded by their hate for him. Inzamam has done far better than his predecessors. I do not remember when was the last time so many young players received consistent opportunities.
The following players were given chances to demonstrate their ability.
Imam
Fakhar
Abid
Babar
Asif
Talat
Imad
Shadab
Faheem
Nawaz
Shaheen
Shinwari
Hasnain
That's at least 13 players.
Inzamam brought back Haris Sohail. He gave fair amount of chances to both Akmals. He selected Rizwan as Sarfraz's backup. He brought back Junaid.
His only fault has been the non-selection of a specialist spinner for which Inzy should not be the only one to blame. Clearly, Mickey is not big fan of spinners which is proved by the fact that he did not play a second spinner in tests even when there was one available.
The only seniors who were backed by Inzy were Hafeez and Malik who for the most part made the ODI team 100% on merit. Both of them are not even part of test team. He rightly kicked out non-performing players like Azhar, Shehzad, Umar, Asad, etc from ODIs.
If anyone thinks that removing Inzamam will benefit Pakistan cricket, they are in denial. Inzamam has done his job by selecting the best available players in Pakistan. There is none sitting at home who is better than the bunch currently playing for Pakistan.
For the first time ever, Pakistan will be going into a world cup with no passenger in the squad. 2015 had Younis Khan, Nasir Jamshed, and Rahat Ali of all people.
Imam is garbage in tests. ODI he's ok.
Not true for everyone. The only reason I don't feel comfortable with Imam is because I don't think he handles bouncers very well, and I don't like to see that weakness in an opener. Nothing to do with any suspicion of nepotism, I don't really care about blood ties, which is why I wasn't bothered when Amir Sohail picked Gen. Zias's son. I could see why Amir saw something in him.
PCB should lead an investigation against Inzamam, non-renewal of contract is not enough. For his nephew and Akmal family he has played with so many careers.
This jerk has left us with the most pathetic batting and bowling options after a boon post CT victory.
PCB gives contract to 30 cricketers how many are stable openers, middle order players nurtured or developed by this chief selector?
His selections of underperforming Imam, Shehzad, Azam, MAlik and Hafeez should not be forgotten.
The destruction Inzamam has done to Pakistan cricket should be well-documented
What an idiotic post. Imam averages 60 in ODI cricket, Shehzad is nowhere near the team and if, by "Azam", you mean Babar Azam, you need to get yourself checked out ASAP.
It will be well-documented that Inzamam's selection process was part of the reason Pakistan won both the test cricket mace and the Champions Trophy. No matter what happens after the World Cup, these facts cannot be distorted.

Not sure about the Inzi part but I've heard that PCB is keen to retain Mickey and have spoken with him about extending his contract.

Mickey is a great coach, replacing him will be very very difficult. The only person I can see coming in is Dean Jones but although he has done well in the PSL, he doesn't have the experience of Mickey in Int coaching.
Imo get rid of the selectors, allow the coach and captain to select the team with help from scouts.

Poor from PCB, should have waited for the tournament to be over.
Mickey has done well and deserves more time.
Inzi has been average at best but Amir Sohail? Please no, the guy is far too arrogant and has the old school mentality of selecting cricketers he likes rather than those who deserve a chance.
If doing well includes losing your last 11 ODI's on the trott, i cannot even imagine what doing poorly means. Apart from the 2017 CT victory, Mickey Arthur has nothing else to show for himself, he is not going to live off the CT win forever.

That will be a good move .Not sure about the Inzi part but I've heard that PCB is keen to retain Mickey and have spoken with him about extending his contract.
Inzamam was actually decent, surprisingly. And as for Mickey, Pakistan do not deserve him. It's as simple as that. We need someone like him, oh so direly we do, but do we deserve him? Absolutely not.

Inzinam should be the batting coach in my opinion and bazid khan should be chief selector ,the rest of the management is fine.
Mickey should be kept. There are no better options and I would rather have him than one of our other great candidates.
I wouldn't be surprised if these 'sources' mentioned in the OP is some disgruntled old fool, who is counting down his days in the PCB too. I mean which idiot would 'leak' something as stupid as Inzi becoming head coach, and pass it off as genuine information? Why would PCB remove Inzi from the selector's post and end up hiring him in an even bigger position? So this whole thread is useless then? I don't have a high opinion of the PCB but surely they can't be stupid enough to hurry a decision on MA's future before the tournament has even begun AND allow a leak to the press.
Hope this is true.
Why can't PCB have Wasim Akram as chief selector.
When it comes to identifying talent, he is best option among mentioned candidates.
This is actually good news in my opinion. I think there is a lot of misconception about Mickey on PP and I think those who want to see him gone are a bit naive, because I reckon we'll be going back to Waqar Younis (or someone of similar calibre) if they try to replace him.
Justice Qayyum report comes to mind..
Please keep akram as far away from pcb as possible.
Not sure about the Inzi part but I've heard that PCB is keen to retain Mickey and have spoken with him about extending his contract.
He has - he is ill tempered, so often anger gets better of his behavior, but he actually was a better choice for Captaincy than even Akram in mid 90s (PCB went for Rambo Raza, no wonder), and much better choice than Saeed. Long, long back, in a game he used some unique bowling combinations and later explained that, which was impressive.
Only issue could be double standards while selection, but I am sure there'll be check & balance this time. Also, PAK likely to appoint new Captain (s), for Test & ODI definitely, probably T20 as well - Amir is a better person to work with a new Captain than current man in charge.
Lol Bazid Khan.
Did you see what his selected World Cup squad was?![]()

Yes the last thing we need is a third term of Waqar Guardiola.
People forget we were 9th and 7th in the ODI and T20 rankings when Mickey took over.
If that Singapore match against Sri Lanka back in the nineties was totally above board then its the single best piece of captaincy i have witnessed from a Pakistani captain. Also the 98 test series against South Africa where he stood in for Latif clearly demonstrated his leadership skills. The effect he had was clear when Latif came back in the last test (along with an unwanted Akram) and Pakistan were duly drubbed. Had he been a better player than he was, and not been a hothead he could have captained Pakistan for a long time. Also did well as a selector, introducing Gul, bringing back youngsters like Hafeez, Taufeeq etc after the world cup 03 debacle. He is certainly a good choice and a big upgrade from Inzi if he is given a free hand and can control his temper.
Thanks, now I can recall the Singapore game. In same tournament, PAK beat India by 8-9 wickets under treacherous condition, and Amir was absolutely brilliant with his bowling changes.
Regarding that Durban Test, I can recall his comments- we are missing our two best players (Wasim & Inzi), on a green track against SAF (with a shy) ... instead of batting cover, we are going with bowling backup to cover Wasim’s absence and try to get 20 SAF wickets for scores that we can manage. His last 4 batsmen were Mushi (@8!!!), Waquar, Shoaib & Fazle-Akbar ..... and they did take 20 wickets for <450.
Amir will do much better as CS, I am certain about that. The blemish put on him (Junaid Zia) is uncalled for - JZ debuted against BD in a series PAK tried several players (unfortunately for Amir, others didn’t have PCB chairman as dad), he was one of them. And his domestic stats prior to that series was satisfactory enough even without his dad.
After that series, he was taken to NZ and Amir categorically explained that within cricket reasons and I was perfectly happy with his explanation (& I knew JZ was TZ’s son). Besides, Amir mentioned one key stats, that Ul Haq can dream about even thinking (because he doesn’t bother for that - in that same series, this guy took a Test match to day 5 for 15 minutes despite 80% threat of thunderstorm for full day, because PAK Captain didn’t know the 30 minutes extension rule!!!).
When asked, Amir explained “.......we are looking for a young No. 8, who will be Razzak’s backup and can make the squad on bowling merit. This kid is bowling well this season, extremely fit & hard working, and he was comfortably the best PAK pacer in U19 WC last year in NZ ...”. I later checked the stats - JZ indeed was much better than even Gul for that WC. Someone else in that position might have asked ....Koun as Junaid?

Nope but his analysis during commentary was spot on that's why I chose him ascan candidate.
No you have won me over.... Inzi the great has selected the best batsman in the country. Can't believe he dropped Umar Akmal.
Yes he has. He has selected the best batsmen in the country..unless you think otherwise? and if so who would you have? stop running away and answer the question or please stop moaning about the selector.
Inzy was appointed as chief selector in April 2016 and the team was in receipt of the mace in September later that year.
Just shows you will latch on to any minute periods to further your pro-Inzy agenda.
AS expected from Inzamam official spokesperson here.
Please check Imam's total average against top 5 and then check which players Inzamam selected how many of them played in the Champions Trophy. Inzamam's priority selections Umar Akmal was sent back by Arthur after he failed fitness test, Ahmed Shehzad was thrown out and Zaman a third option was put in his place. Wahab Riaz after getting bashed black and blue against India returned citing an injury.
Under Inzamam Pakistan lost in NZ, against NZ in UAE, Against South africa in South Africa, could'nt qualify for the Asia Cup Final.
Everytime Pakistan lost Inzamam used the opportunity to push in his favorite TTFs. In last tournament v Australia he dropped the captain plus 6 players to get his mafia players some prominence who were a huge fail. Thanks to Inzamam selections we have no stable top order or middle order and have lost 12 strainght matches, abhi bhi tumhe sharam nahi aati.
In Asia Cup match, his nephew dropped Rohit Sharma at a crucial juncture where Pakistan team could'nt even get 3 people out. Worst opener in years with limited shots
Inzamam's biggest contribution is protecting his seniors+nephew mafia and blocking every young bat from the Pakistan team. His contribution will never be forgotten.
Inzamam selected the squad that won two test matches in England, thereby winning the test mace. Understand?
All this Inzamam hate is making you lose it. He selected 15 players for the CT, 11 of his selected players played in every single match. You cannot point fingers at Akmal, Riaz and Shehzad without crediting him for picking Junaid, Faheem, Hasan, Fakhar and Hafeez.
Who makes up this mafia of seniors that Inzamam is backing? Hafeez and Malik? Because every other senior from Amir to Riaz has been dropped multiple times by him and have only been brought back when they have deserved it. Hafeez and Malik meanwhile, have actually done quite well and due to the added benefit of their experience, bowling and fielding are quite useful to this Pakistan team. However, I do not expect Inzamam's haters to have any respect for selections made on merit. For people like you, you either hate a player or love him, regardless of actual performances.
No stable top order? Open your eyes. Imam, Fakhar and Babar have not only made the first three spots their own, they make up one of the strongest top-orders in the world. The middle-order has seen a lot of chopping and changing but that is down to the circumstances some of our middle-order batsmen have gone through such as injury (Hafeez) and loss of form (Malik).
Additionally, I do not understand how you can accuse Inzamam of backing his favourites on the one hand but also have an issue with him giving fringe players a full series to show what they can do. Inzamam could have very easily picked a full strength team during that series against Australia and probably escaped criticism as a result. Instead, he risked a series loss to ensure that Pakistan is ready for the series that really matters: The World Cup. These are just some of the young (new) batsmen that have been given opportunities by Inzamam:
- Babar Azam
- Imam-ul-Haq
- Fakhar Zaman
- Haris Sohail
- Asif Ali
- Mohammad Rizwan
- Saad Ali
- Usman Salahuddin
- Abid Ali
- Shan Masood
None of your arguments make any sense. I won't even try to explain why blaming the selectors for dropped catches is silly.
Heads need to roll.
My two bits.
Today's performance aside, I saw zero intent from our players and they didn't looked like they were fully awaken and focused on the WC.
There is a possibility that the dressing room could have been shaken up before WC. Due to Inzamam's arrival. I didn't understand why selector flew to the team to tell them how to play. Mickey Arthur and the coaches, good or bad that's another thing to debate. But when you bring in selector in place of a coach to coach a team suddenly in the WC it is bound to happen.
Not sure why my thread was deleted, but I'm curious to know where is Mickey Arthur since the warm-up game. It's like he has sidelined himself or he has been sidelined since Inzamam came to the UK.
Pakistan fans deserve answers.
It's weird, since he was coming out to face the music during the England series. All of a sudden he is nowhere to be seen.Good point. He probably knows he won't be here after the WC so has lost interest. Also may not want to risk a future job with a stupid statement.
It's weird, since he was coming out to face the music during the England series. All of a sudden he is nowhere to be seen.
Mickey must be retained. We can't get any better.
Not so worried about Inzi, former cricketers turned selectors are ten a penny.
