Karachi: Three uncapped Pakistani players have walked out of their first-class teams, insisting they wanted to play for a franchise in the T10 league in Abu Dhabi, giving a new turn to the ongoing tussle between players and the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf and batsmen Mirza Ehsan Baig and Sohail Akhtar have apparently decided to fly out to Abu Dhabi although the board is yet to issue NOCs to players for the tournament.

"These three players informed their teams in domestic first-class cricket after the national T20 championship that they couldn't play any longer in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy as they were going to play for their Pakistan Super League franchise, Lahore Qalanders," a well-informed source said.

He said the three were planning to fly out to Abu Dhabi and try to play for the Lahore Qalanders team, Qalanders in the T10 league.

"Basically all three told their coaches that they were not interested in red ball cricket and were white ball specialists and left their teams," the source said.

An official in the Pakistan Cricket Board made it clear that while the players were free to travel anywhere in the world but they couldn't play in the T10 league without the NOC from the PCB.

"The T10 league is a event recognized by the ICC so players have to show NOCs of their home boards to play in the event," he said.

The Lahore Qalanders franchise owners were upset when the board revoked the NOCs after initially issuing them to a number of players with reports indicating that the orders had come directly from the Prime Minister since the T10 league had the involvement of lot of Indians.

The Lahore Qalanders owners feel done in as they entered their team in the T10 league with majority of the players from Pakistan.

A group of some 12 to 13 players including national team members had also met with PCB's CEO, Wasim Khan during the national T20 in Faisalabad and conveyed their concerns to him about players not being given NOCs for the T10 league which would hit them badly financially.

Mirza Ahsan Jamil and Sohail Akhtar only have white-ball contracts with their provincial sides anyway, so this 'source' needs to get the facts straight, unless that's changed.

Disappointing to see Haris Rauf being thrust into this useless tug of war between PCB and LQ. This has been handled in a very poor manner so far.

Haris Rauf is very loyal to Sameen Rana and the LQ group. He has mentioned many times that he owes them all his success.

Haris Rauf is ruining his chances to play international cricket. I guess he's realised he only has 10 years of cricket and it will take a couple of years at least before he gets selected, so may as well make some money before his body stops him from doing so.

Haris Rauf has fitness to bowl max 4 overs.

Don't see him getting selected for Pak anyway. He should have proven himself in the FC circuit, bowling long spells.

He can't do it.

It's more to do with his loyalty to Sameen Rana. They have invested a lot in him. He'll obviously want to keep them happy.

Picked up 5 wickets in 35 overs in the last match he played for Northern.

That's good to know, did he sustain it over multiple FC matches?

Should've used this season to build stamina.

Wasn't selected initially because the likes of Sadaf got precedence over him.

Now LQ are insisting he's contracted to them therefore he has to play in their local T10 tournament, and now T10 league so he hasn't been with the Northern squad.

When likes of Muhammad Nawaz and Asif Ali were awared NOCs for MSL, then it makes no sense to revoke the NOCs of this league. At least be consistent in your decision making

If Haris wants to move forward with his career he has to think about himself more and Sameen Rana less. I'm sure if Sameen Rana is a good person he would be happy that Haris wants to play domestic to increase his chances of playing for Pakistan. He shouldn't forget the favour that Sameen Rana did for him, he should be thankful still and remember that is how he made it to the PSL and domestic cricket, but that is in the past.

There's obviously some underlying reasons.

Some media rumours are that it's due to Indian involvement in the administration of the T10 league.

Personally, I think during QEA season, contracted players should play for FC teams.

Imagine any Indian player doing this to BCCI?

PCB should strict action and also stop such players from playing PSL. LQ will know their aukaat. I don't care how talented you are but you can't undermine PCB.

So that's the end of Haris Rauf. But the PCB could be sensible and create a 10 day window for this rubbish so that players could earn some cash.

But domestic cricket is poorly paid and the PCB needs to be flexible. A 10 window isn't the end of the world and should be created.

Our players are just greedy!!!! Players like this are bound to be match fixer in their life time. PCB should ban these players and stop giving NOC not more than 2 leagues.

Even if they get 100000 rupee per match these players will go for more. These players don't have any passion for cricket.

Short term monitory benefits have ruined careers before as well and Haris Rauf definitely isnt sending a great message to the selectors. Haris is still young and once he improve as a bowler he can earn much more in leagues where PCB does give NOCs so there is no point in taking such risks.

Though I understand his loyalty to LQ as without them nobody would have even known he existed. I guess guy was ready for even longer format and thats why he played the 4 day cricket as well but its high time he and LQ decide where his career is gonna go.

And he shouldn't snub the PCB this way. They will end his international career before it even starts in all the politics. He's already 24, and a fast bowler, so he can't pull an Amir if he's kept out for one reason or another for 3-5 years.

But they do have families to feed. The QA trophy this year has been a breath of fresh air, but we need to let the players also earn a living. A 10 day window will not kill off the QA trophy.

One 10-day window perhaps won't have much effect but then how many windows? The start of QEA overlapped with CPL, now MSL is going on, T10 will start in a few days. One 10-day window means a player will miss at least 2 matches, and the teams will play a total of 10/11 matches over the course of the season.

Still, there has to be a balance to allow cricketers to earn money from these leagues as well, just not sure what the best way around it is.

This is where players reps could be involved. White ball contracted players should be allowed to play all tournaments that don't clash with white tournaments at home. Players have a short career, and they need to be allowed to earn a living.

The PCB should ban and fine them to set an example. You cannot defy the board and expect to get away with it

Complete failure for the part of PCB - they should have realized this before forcing players to take extreme measures.

As I said when this decision (regarding T10 NOC) was taken - pay top dollars to 25-35 best (centrally contracted) players and tie them tightly - from fitness/diet to even language training (BCB has imposed learning English and a certain level of proficiency as mandatory for central contracted players), and control their every movement, but allow rest to earn from different sources.

WK should digest the pill and amend the decision - PAK's domestic cricket doesn't pay enough to control every player.

Dangerous situation this.

How far will PSL franchises take this "ownership" of a player scenario.

Other franchises will be watching this situation with great interest.

One or two more full fledged successful seasons of the PSL in Pakistan and hopefully the PCB will be in a solid position to get other interested investors and will not put up with the shenigans of the current franchise owners.

Some chest thumping posters losing the plot. If according to you posters, X, Y, Z won’t be selected for National duties, then why should they toll away in first class making no money and killing their bodies? Makes no sense? And if PCB bans them, then they can just live abroad and become league specialists. Either was their quality of life would improve over leagues then PCB run cricket.

Disappointing.

Haris Rauf is talented and could have suceeded if he played more FC games, he clearly had the skillset to do well.
