Now Ken Clarke, who registered as a MP thirty seconds after Kaufman, steps into his shoes.

A beloved local MP for Manchester Gorton for decades. He was particularly liked by his Asian constituents.

For the imbeciles who engage in antisemitism when discussing the issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, bear in mind Kaufman was a proud Jewish MP who was a staunch critic of the State ot Israel.

His speech to the Commons after Operation Cast Lead was masterful. Scathing and high on emotion, yet sober and factual.

It will feel strange to see the Labour Party without a man who's been part the movement ever since he served in Harold Wilson's cabinet.

He will be missed. RIP Gerald.

Sir Gerald got 67% of the vote in 2015 after the LD vote collapsed. But the LDs are on the march again. If Galloway splits the Left vote, the LDs could sneak over the line.
