Disgusting behavior. Its a new venue and it is the first match being played.

But that is not an excuse to throw rocks.

Lord knows what the connection is with throwing rocks at visitors

Unacceptable behaviour. Most of these Australian players play in the IPL so why the hate for them?

Unacceptable behaviour. Most of these Australian players play in the IPL so why the hate for them?

Because India lost. Disgusting behaviour and reveals an ugly mentality from some fans.

Sir with new venues people who have never been to a match may behave irresponsibly compared to regular venues.

Lol, you mean people need regular games to realise throwing rocks at people is a bad idea? The hell?

Outrageous! Aussies should pack up and leave. They should not take this incident lightly. The final T20 should be either be called off or moved to UAE immediately!

Lol, you mean people need regular games to realise throwing rocks at people is a bad idea? The hell?
U don't know anything about India and people need to be teached manners about how to behave.

U know the condition of public places and properties. Nobody cares about responsibility and civil behavior.

India needs a long way to go

This is third class behaviour. No excuses and the BCCI must rethink allocating matches to this venue.

Because one idiot throwing a rock at the bus means there is hate against Aussies in India

I would have agreed with this and written it off as a handful of idiots but one of your countrymen recently set me straight.

I am also a miniscule part of India. Indians make india you see.

So apparently this is representative of India, sorry. :srt

Yes some Indian did it which is why so many Indians are ashamed at the behaviour.

Fair to say that a section of Indian fans bring the rest of us into serious disrepute.

Cricketers react... though one stands out :bhanja

This happens far too often in India. Eden Gardens comes to mind.

Forget the tools, its in the mindset, and Indians would defend this mindset

No everyone has flaws, that doesn't mean you are untouchable. Your government would blame ISI for this too

That was my first match too. It was in late 1997. A little details of your stay here would be great :)

grew up there in the 90s. My father used to work for an oil company between sadgaon and lalmati (not IOC, people don't normally know about it). Studied at Army school. Left there in the late 90s, but my dad went back to Guwahati for a couple of years in 2012, so I visited again. Changed so much. I can still speak a bot of Assamese, kintu max pahori golu.

Coming back to that match, it was sooooo amazing. Remember Sachin smashing murali all around the park. And you're right, it was late 97.

Parisa dekhun :))

This is what happens when you market and propagandize Cricket as the be all and end all in not just sports, but also as some sort of an issue of higher national importance. What just should be a sport is now something on which riots can take place in this country. Burning stadiums, throwing bottles, breaking glasses of buses, security being deployed outside the homes of cricketers after India loses an important match.. the situation is just horrendous, to the extent that every 2nd Indian cricket fan you meet on the web space is a pompous, condescending, abusive cretin who lives vicariously through the cricketers of this country.

Only thing that can prevent this is to rationalize the extent of importance of the sport in the minds of the public. Educate them that nobody can become a God by playing this sport, nobody can become an traitor by doing badly in this sport, there are actually other sports that India plays and is trying to get better at, and then maybe.. if proper support kicks in and India finally starts getting anything other than an embarrassing tally of medals in the Olympic and other major sporting events, we can finally lessen this mania of Cricket that has been allowed to fester by the Media in the country for the past 20 years.

I have never heard about this venue before, which part of India is it? Disgusting act though.

If this incident had happened in Bangladesh you would have seen more people criticising Bangladesh and demanding to take away their test status.

Oil India Limited?

Imagine if one of those rocks had knocked out Warner and rendered him injured for the Ashes lol. The whole of Aus would've erupted in fury. Luckily nothing happened.

It did happen. Bangladeshi fans threw stones at the West Indies bus after the world cup loss. Afterwards was actually revealed that the Bangladeshi fans thought it was the Bangladesh team bus they were throwing at lol.

Lol maybe here they wanted to attack the Indian bus?

Bad stuff, BCCI should think before allocating matches to venues like these, we rarely see bad behavior from crowd in South/ Mumbai.

Non issue really, the only thing that should come out of it is that the buses carrying cricketers should be a bit stronger glass to prevent a simple rock breaking the window.

It is definitely an issue. In fact it is shocking and there are no excuses at all really. Visiting teams are guests and their safety is of the utmost importance.

That's figuratively what BCCI does to all other cricketing boards - intimidate them, are you not ashamed then?

Is it hard to differentiate between violence and non-violence? BCCI does what it should for better deal for Indian cricketers,it serves its point.

It is a major issue. This is a criminal act.

If people can't act civilized to guests then they don't deserve to host them.

Hemanta Biswa Sharma, the defacto Deputy CM of Assam has apologised to the aussies. He posted an apology on twitter as well.He is also president of ACA.

It's an engineering difficulty though - it's easier to make bullet proof glass than it is to make boulder proof glass.

Local authorities have reportedly arrested two people in connection to a rock throwing incident involving the Australian team bus in Guwahati on Wednesday morning (AEST).

A rock roughly the size of a cricket ball was hurled at the bus on its journey back to the team hotel following their T20 win over India, piercing the glass and shattering a window.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident but the Assam Cricket Association, hosting its first international cricket match in seven years, has demanded answers from local police.

There was was an increased security presence on Wednesday for Australia's 15km journey to the LGB Airport ahead of their flight to Hyderabad; officers in military uniform and armed with rifles lined much of the streets between the hotel and the airport.

"The police have already arrested two persons and are investigating into the matter," ACA secretary Pradip Buragohain told Press Trust of India.

"We made every attempt to ensure a foolproof security but don't know how this happened. It was near the team hotel and not at the crowded street near the stadium.

"I can assure that such incident won't occur in future again. There will be a thick security cover when the Australian team leaves for Hyderabad."

Local government minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his apologies and vowed to "punish the guilty"

The incident left a sour taste after an otherwise successful evening at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, which attracted a sell-out crowd for its first ever international match.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa said it was a scary moment for the Australian players, who were also targeted by a rock on their recent Test tour of Bangladesh.

"I had my headphones on quite loud and was looking towards the other side of the bus," Zampa said. "I just heard this loud bang. It was a pretty scary five seconds or so.

"Our security guard mentioned quite quickly that it might have been a rock. It was a pretty scary incident. You never want those things to happen. It was disappointing.
"I think everyone was alright. I think after what happened in Bangladesh with the rock as well, no one was too rattled. It was dealt with quite well, I think.

"The Indian fans are so great to us, which is one of the reasons why it's so hard to travel here. They're so loud, they love cricket and they're so passionate about it.

"Guwahati doesn't get much cricket as it is so for one person to do that and to spoil it for the rest of the Indian fans, it's pretty disappointing."

The ACA have made clear their intention to bring regular top-flight cricket to Guwahati and they have moved quickly to assure the tourists that the incident was a one off.

"I am ... meeting the Australian team officials to assure them of security on their way back from Guwahati," ACA vice president Debojit Saikia told the Hindustan Times.

"The atmosphere was great during the match and we will make sure that such freak incidents won’t mar the reputation of Assam cricket."

Sirshendu Panth, Guwahati, Apr 9 (PTI) The fifth one-dayer between India and England was abandoned here today without a ball being bowled due to wet ground conditions, an outcome which triggered off crowd violence and led to police lobbing teargas to disperse angry spectators.

Spectators threw missiles on to the field and set advertising hoardings on fire after umpires decided to call off play due to "unplayable" ground conditions following continuous rains over the last few days.

The umpires -- Rudi Koertzen and A V Jayaprakash -- carried out five inspections of the ground before calling off the match at 1:15 pm after consulting rival captains Virender Sehwag and Andrew Flintoff.

The decision of the umpires to call off the match was met with disapproval by the fans who had waited patiently since morning in the hope of catching some action at the Nehru Stadium.

Police lobbed tear gas to disperse a section of crowd which had turned unruly, burning posters and banners in the gallery.

Two policemen and one spectator were injured as bricks and bamboo were hurled at the cops.

India, who have already clinched the seven-match series after winning the first four games, and England will now travel to Jamshedpur for the sixth match on April 12.

Trouble first started in the eastern stand before spreading quickly to a few other galleries and intensifed when four cameras of Nimbus production unit were damaged. While one, used for the Hawk Eye, was burnt, two others were damaged beyond repair and the fourth was partially damaged.

"It has been a security disaster, the police should have acted in time," a Nimbus official said.

Assam Cricket Association Secretary Bikash Barooah said "we are not satisfied with the umpires' decision, we will write to the ICC about it." Indian and England teams had to be whisked away to the team bus by armed escorts.

The spectators started losing their cool shortly after noon as the decision of the umpires was made known.
They threw water bottles and stones on to the ground and pulled down vinyl boards and other in-stadia advertisements.

A section of the crowd gathered posters and banners and put them afire. Some burning clothes were thrown in the area between the crowd fencing and the boundary line.

Earlier, the authorities exhausted all options, even going to the extent of deploying a helicopter to fan the outfield dry after conventional mopping up operations and use of the super sopper proved ineffective.

With a generally overcast sky and the sun only filtering through intermittently, ACA officials pressed the chopper into service for about 45 mintues but even the extreme step failed to bear results.

So this isn't the first time stuff like this has happened.

Someone needs to remind them that india cant win all the time!!

Shameful act. It is good that prompt action was taken and responsible people acted promptly. Needless to say that such acts bring shame to the country.

Scores of fans from my hometown cheered both the teams on their way to the airport holding banners appologizing to the Aussie team for yesterdays incident.

Shameful and unacceptable.

I'm from Lahore and I'm embarrassed by this kind of desi behaviour. Gawar janwar na hon to.

Is this thread still relevant? An idiot caused shame and trouble and threat to guests. The whole state, atleast who matter, govt and fans apologized. Warner thanked the Indians. The law will punish the idiot. Thats it. For introducing facebook is available and for news and non-cricket stories websites are available.

Four juveniles were arrested on Sunday for allegedly throwing stones at the Australia’s team bus after the Twenty20 International match that India lost at Guwahati last week, Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay at Guwahati.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath said of the four arrested, two were class 12 students while the other two work in a shop. “They were drunk. They had watched the match on their mobile phones in nearby areas. India’s defeat agitated them and when they saw the bus coming out of the stadium, one of them threw a stone on the bus. They fled from the scene after that,” he said.

The police had arrested two persons a day after the incident. However, their involvement in the incident has not yet been established. “Investigation is going on. If we find that the two who were arrested earlier were not involved, then we will pray to the court to release them,” Nath said.

The four juveniles were arrested in connection with the October 10 incident, where stones were thrown at the Australian team bus when the David Warner-led side was returning from the stadium after defeating hosts India in a T20 match, Sahay told a press conference. Sahay said that the police were working to solve the case on an urgent basis. “Entire police force got involved to find out the culprits,” he said. The entire security drill is being upgraded following the incident, which had brought the state a “bad name”, he said.

“Every citizen of the state was concerned how this incident took place. It gave us a chance to review and now we have to upgrade our security so that such incidents never occur again,” he added.

So that pretty much settles the case then, people loose sense after booze, especially subcontinent people and do all the crazy stuff and then get booked.

I think any country with alcohol has to put up with a share of drunk idiots from time to time (even if planning must be put in place to prevent trouble). India is still perceived as a generally safe place to travel & tour for Australians. It wasn't news over here for very long or in a major way.

Nice that other fans came out to try and right the wrong- classy touch that I'm not sure would happen everywhere.
