I understand Imad took 2 wickets today however reality is he is not a spinner neither a batsman. How long will Pakistan keep him in the team?

Twelve years between signing up and posting. Jesus.

Imad is good against teams that have not played him before, or at least not much.

The only reason Imad does well against teams that haven't played him often is because they play for turn however this guy does not know what turn is.

Only one of him/Hafeez are needed in the side, not both. Whoever can bat better should stay.

I like Imad. Doesn't seem selfish and can actually slog. He plays at a position where everyone wanted Hafeez to play 3-4 years ago.

If he puts in a few good performances with the bat in the near future, Hafeez really should be shown the door without any hesitance whatsoever.

For now, Hafeez should open with Fakhar. Short-term solution until Sahibzada/Amin are ready for selection.

Imad is meant to be batting all rounder or maybe a bowling all rounder.
I couldn't be bothered either way if he can do this consistently

To answer your question, he basically is a containing bowler. He knows it himself - wicket to wicket, not giving anything away. The left arm version of Hafeez.

He's good with the bat, he's shown that a few times.

He's just a good AR. Would like him to be a better bowler though, but overall he'd stay in my XI.

i think in t20 more of a wicket taking option, and in ODI more to prevent teams from scoring runs, but i dont think he is a long term option in ODI format at least.

He bowls a tight channel and keeps the runs in check which creates pressure on the batsman. He is useful in this format and should be persisted with .

I think there are two things-

1. Imad has performed well in T20Is but Imad does not seem to have been given a clear role in the ODI team. So on this, I agree with OP.

2. His recent form (batting in particular) has been awful.

So this raises the following questions:

a) Is it a case of Imad simply not being good enough? Or
b) Is it a case of him being good enough, and he is just going through a rough patch? or
c) Is it a case of Imad not being given a clear role by Arthur/Sarfaraz?

I suspect it is a combination of the three. Imad has potential, but if he does not make the necessary improvements he risks becoming a Hafeez mark 2.

If his role in the team is as a bowling all-rounder, then he needs to work on his varieties. Currently, he does not spin the ball at all which makes him a little predictable. Teams have now started to clock on to this and play him like a medium pacer. He needs a delivery which turns a little to keep the batsmen guessing.

The bigger concern is his batting. He occupies an important batting position, but unfortunately he has struggled in this position. If Arthur and co see him as a long term 7, then Imad needs to develop his power-hitting. Imad's career hasn't progressed in the way many were hoping/expecting. If he fails to make these adjustments/improvements it might be time to look elsewhere.

Not sure about him. Sometimes I think he could even play as a batting all-rounder in tests then at other times I wonder if he is even good enough to be part of the ODI team. I find him confusing. Also I dislike the fact that he seems to be so close to the coach. Sometimes I feel like he gets extra opportunities because he is seen as educated and can speak English.

It is good to have swagger, but at times, I feel he over does it. It is Dale Steyn-esque in that it does not seem natural, but rather forced. Steyn was a great bowler but whenever he tried to give his "crazy eyes" or shout, stare or seem aggressively it made me laugh. It was clear that this was something that Allan Donald had told him to do. It was an act. On the field Donald had an aggressive attitude which came naturally to him, but on Steyn it just seemed kinda funny. Still a great bowler though. I feel Imad has a similar fake swagger. For now, I think he should be given a chance also because he seems to be a decent fielder.

Quite right. His so called swagger is so artificial that it gets annoying after a few minutes. But how can we blame him. He is just a small time Pindi Boy who has gotten so much attention in too little time for him to digest. ;)

I think benching him would do him quite good at this moment. He needs to realize that with all his English and looking cool approach, he can't keep his place In the team and he needs to work hard for that. Just look at his potbelly for once and you'd know that he has gotten extremely lazy in past few months. It would go only downwards from here on if he is not admonished right now.

He might need a friendly push so that he can improve. The only problem is that our domestic system sucks and players usually seem worse when they come back. But without the push he may never realize his potentiel

In theory he has the ability to be a fairly decent all-rounder, however he seems to have totally neglected his ever-deteriorating batting ability, unless he makes anends soon, I would say he should be axed, with a view to return to the national side upon requisite batting improvements.

That's true. But from the looks of it we are going to get a barrage of Spin bowling allrounders in next 1/2 years. Shadab, Kamran Ghulam, Hassan Khan etc. Plus one position is likely to go to Aamir Yameen/Faheem Ashraf. Seems Imad has very tough competition ahead.

True. Good to see some young talent coming through. I am a fan of Yameen. I think he and Faheem could be a great lower order combination for us.

Yeah I was too hoping for his inclusion in the team after his performance in Pakistan Cup. TBH I never game Faheem Ashraf any hope before first warmup match as I do not have any trust in anything Inzimam does or says. It's strange that this selection of him came through.

Yes, indeed. I had very low expectations concerning Faheem, but I like what I see so fare. I think In the future we might have a strong lower order something like:

6. Yameen
7. Faheem
8. Shadab
9. Amir
10. Hassan Ali
11. Junaid ( he can't bat though)

You know when the Aussies can't pronounce Wasim

So they say waszzzim or whatever they say

I think Imad shouldn't be in the team the guy is getting exposed really badly.he isn't a hitter, can't take pressure, bowls non attacking and after the dream 2 series against the pomms and against the windies Madey hasn't tasted real sucsess.FOUNDEN OUT BIG TIME.

He is a container who can badly choke Non-Asian sides on his day, given the modern scoring rate nowadays, this ability of his can be match changing.
His batting skills are there and can be developed to make him more than a handy bat.

Nevertheless he can be a good LOI all rounder if he works on himself rather than showing unnecessary swagger.
