After Manchester United's shocking 2-1 Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town (via penalties)—adding to a dismal run with just 17 wins in 45 games under Ruben Amorim, a Premier League win rate of 24.7% (worse than any manager since Sir Alex), and a record-low 15th-place finish last season—what's your verdict?

Despite £200m splashed on new signings like Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko, the team still can't convert chances, and key players like Garnacho (now eyeing Chelsea) and Mainoo are being marginalized in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system. Fans are chanting "sacked in the morning"—is the noise too loud to ignore?

Should Man Utd sack Amorim now?

His attitude yesterday suggest that he has pulled the plug. There is no real way out for him apart from the sack or resignation.

He is stubbornly sticking by his failing system and if he changes it now then it will call into question his past stubbornness and decision making.

Way too early, only 2 matches into the PL season. Changing managers at this stage will be strange, unless they can bring in someone they are certain will make fast improvements.

The worrying thing for a Utd fan is Amormim was alluding to the players throwing him under the bus with his comments. If the relationship is already fragile between him and some players, he may not last until Xmas.

Let's not carried away. Continously sacking managers clearly has not worked.

We need to give him as long as Possible to turn this around.

Let's not forget. During the Gooners game, fans were convinced a Champions league Place was up for grabs lol 😆

Who knows. Like Ten hag, maybe Amorim puts a dagger in to Scousers aspirations of winning majors.

Happened to Klopp in the famous Melt down. Slot could be next.

The eventuality will happen. But right now would be knee jerk.

Amorim, Potter and Nuno who’d be the first to go..

The joke’s on utd management if they sack another manager mid season.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is understood to retain the support of the club ownership despite last night's shock Carabao Cup defeat at League Two Grimsby

Amorim has provoked question marks over his tenure with his own statements following the penalty shootout loss at Blundell Park, before which his side had to come back from two goals down having been outplayed for an hour.

However, sources with an understanding of the situation are adamant this uncertainty does not exist from the top down.

They say it was always felt the journey being taken under Amorim would be a long one and that the club want to avoid making short-term decisions based around a couple of poor results.

United have backed Amorim by spending £200m on attacking players this summer, while negotiations likely to end with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund joining Chelsea, Real Betis and Napoli respectively, are continuing.

The club are mindful that in the summer of 2024 they backed Erik ten Hag with a similar transfer budget, only to sack the Dutchman before the end of October.

The defeat at Grimsby is the first time United have lost to fourth-tier opposition. Amorim did not shirk media duties afterwards and spoke to in-house station MUTV on his bleak assessment of the situation.

"Let's focus on the next game and then we have time to think about things," he said.

"We have a job to do, a job to prepare, and then we will stop and think things through."

The Portuguese manager opted not to clarify his comments, which even inside Old Trafford have been interpreted by some as the 40-year-old considering his future.

It is not the first time this has happened. It was reported he offered to resign at one stage last season, although this has never been confirmed. In the summer, Amorim described his desire to do a good job and emotional response when he doesn't as "an ego thing".

He is bound to be asked about his comments when he speaks to the media on Friday afternoon before his side's Premier League game against Burnley at Old Trafford the following day.

Immediately after the international break United go to Etihad Stadium for the first Manchester derby of the season. Chelsea visit Old Trafford the following week, while a trip to old rivals Liverpool looms on 19 October.

He will also be asked to expand on his claim that his players "spoke really loud today what they want". Even within the dressing room, which appeared so supportive of Amorim during a pre-season notable for the unity in the camp, there is uncertainty over what the former Sporting coach was saying.

Few players who started last night's game put forward a convincing case for selection against Burnley, including midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who completed the full 90 minutes, and goalkeeper Andre Onana, whose mistake for Grimsby's second goal made a bad situation worse.

Eyebrows were also raised at £73.7m forward Benjamin Sesko being the last outfield player to take a penalty for United in the marathon shootout, which extended to 13 shots for each side.

Sources have said the decision was taken as Sesko, who was completing his first competitive 90 minutes since 19 April, was experiencing cramp due to a pitch that had become heavy with rainfall.

Probably should have been sacked last season. Amorim cost man united European football and left them 15th with not being able to adapt his tactics for the squad or the league.

Now united have spent a lot of money again for a manager, it seems silly to sack them after 3 games. The new manager might not want these signings.

I think he was extremely complacent last season. Blaming his squad, players instead of trying to make the best out of whatever he was given. Very poor attitude in sport. It was like until he got some of his own players in, he was unwilling to even try. Makes sense he didn’t want to leave Sporting until end of season, and in hindsight man united shouldn’t have pressured him to join midway if this was how he was going to manage until end of season. He was completely inflexible and stubborn in his approach.

'Sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I want to quit' - Amorim

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has blamed his emotions for his post-match comments after the Grimsby defeat which provoked questions about his future, saying "sometimes I want to quit".

In the immediate aftermath of the EFL Cup defeat by the League Two side on Wednesday, the Portuguese said his team "were completely lost" and that "something has to change".

He opted not to clarify his comments, which even inside Old Trafford have been interpreted by some as the 40-year-old considering his future.

But speaking on Friday, he said: "To be really honest, every time that we have a defeat like that in the future I'm going to be like that. I'm going to say sometimes I hate my players and sometimes I love my players.

"Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years.

"I need to improve on that, it's going to be hard but now I'm focused on the next game."
