Russia's Embassy in Syria's capital of Damascus came under mortar fire by terrorists on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Ministry revealed.
There have been no casualties in the attack, the ministry said, noting that the building sustained a certain level of damage.

Two mortar rounds fell on the territory of the Russian embassy with two more hitting close to the mission's perimeter, according to the statement released by the ministry.

"We strongly condemn terrorist attacks on Russian diplomatic mission in Damascus," the statement read. "We'd like to reiterate once again that Russia has drawn attention on multiple occasions to barbaric nature of the bombardments, which terrorists regularly carry out against the residential quarters in Damascus and other populated Syrian cities. Every day, civilians, women and children become the victims of these attacks."

Russia hopes that the Western countries in the United Nations Security Council will comment on the attack, the statement said.

This is not the first attack on the diplomatic mission. On July 16, Russia's Embassy in Damascus came under mortar fire.
Later, Moscow expressed regret that some UN Security Council members refused to qualify attacks on the Russian embassy in Damascus as terrorist acts.

"We regret to say that some members of the Security Council have again refused to consider the Russian draft under a far-fetched pretext of the lack of evidence on the terrorist nature of the attacks," the statement said on Tuesday. "It was proposed to delete all important provisions of the draft. In these circumstances, the Russian delegation found it pointless to continue work on this document."

I think everyone is in the game of misusing the 'terrorism' label. There's a civil war in Syria backed by two superpowers. Each can call the other's actions terrorism, doesn't make it true or right. It was attacked by fighters.

I'll just leave you with these first four sentences from Wikipedia:

"There is no universal agreement on the definition of terrorism. Various legal systems and government agencies use different definitions. Moreover, governments have been reluctant to formulate an agreed upon and legally binding definition. These difficulties arise from the fact that the term is politically and emotionally charged."

how would you label the attackers of Army Public School?

how would you label the attackers of Army Public School?

I've been asked this by an Indian before when I mentioned how Western media outlets refer to Kashmiri resistance as militants/insurgents and not terrorists. I will answer this as I answered then:

I consider terrorism to be any indiscriminate killing of unarmed civilians to achieve a political outcome. In that respect the Peshawar Massacre was undoubtedly terrorism.

was it really indiscriminate, considering it was an army school?

If you call these terrorists then do not call those terrorists who attacked the embassy fighters.
otherwise it would be pure low grade hypocrisy.

It was an army school indeed. I mentioned this to the Indian as I will to you. Technically it can be classed as both. In the first instance they did attack an army institution and were meant to kill armed officers inside, they didn't find any so started killing INDISCRIMINATELY.

"Our six fighters successfully entered the Army school and we are giving them instructions from outside," said Khorasani by phone. Khorasani also said "Our suicide bombers have entered the school, they have instructions not to harm the children, but to target the Army personnel. It's a revenge attack for the Army offensive in North Waziristan."

They just went on a killing spree when they didn't find any soldiers to kill. They were foreigners who were/are a known terrorist group. Simple logic really.

The embassy attack is very different because the Russians are fighting in Assad's civil war. It became an even larger war when the two superpowers entered it and began targeting their enemy of choice. The Syrian resistance including most of ISIS are local fighters.

You accuse me of "low grade hypocrisy" yet I've been a witness to your antics in the Panama threads and a few others. You've even admitted you just say things for the sake of criticism. I only typed this out for anyone who might read this. I honestly have no time or the energy to indulge in any discussion with you, because it usually spirals into a very 'low-grade' mud-slinging contest.

It is all out of control now. Even Syrians don't know what is happening in their country.

No terrorism here, just stray morters which is expected in a war zone. Just few miles away Russia and allies are bombing the hell out of besieged E Ghouta pocket since years with air strikes and IRAM missiles. What Russia did to Aleppo and now is doing to Jobar is terrorism. Of course Russian sputnik isn't going to talk about indiscriminate bombing, starvation of civilians and Hospitals by Russia. Russia is the biggest terrorist organization in the world and it supports the biggest mass murderer in modern history.

I never said that. Critical thinking is a different monster.
