The 71 runs conceded by Saeed Ajmal today was the most runs he's conceded in an ODI. His previous highest was 62 against England last year.

To add to that he did not take a single wicket.

Had a really bad day today.

Has been poor of late, Hafeez outbowling him easily.

Didn't he take a five wicket haul against India? The guy had a bad game but he is a class bowler. He will bounce back.

Embarrassing day for Ajmal, but I am sure he will bounce back in Champions Trophy :ajmal

Well he can't be expected to perform all the time. Had an off day. He'll be back before you can say 'iDone!'

very bad day but i hope this wont get to him. you ahve bad days as one of our best pacer was expensive too and so was the X factor. you knwo tis match kinda showed that we are very dependent on him and when he has bad days we generally end up losing the match.

Just proves that without Ajmal...

We are an associate team...

An associate team hitting the number one ODI bowler that many runs? now that really demands special attention be given to Ireland by ICC.

Every top bowler has some off days or simply batsman might play too well on specific day.

Not easy to play in that cold. Asian teams will struggle. but its quite stunning how the irish actually hammered poor ajmal. I mean, they never even let the 'aura' around :ajmal affect their mindset and attacked him. credit to ireland.

I do believe ajmal will come out stronger after today's phainty though.

Someone who follows Ajmal closely might know better but Ajmal doesn't seem to be a death-overs bowler. The famous Hussey over and today defending 16? He seems to bottle it under pressure.

He shouldn't ball at the death anymore no spinner should. How long before we learn the lesson , especially since we picked 3 seamers

Back eshan or don't select him at all

Had this been Afridi, the entire PP forum would have asked for his head.

2 instances. One of them was in a huge match and in a huge moment.

Ajmal has bowled very well under pressure several times but because of that Hussey blitz any bad day at the office will get people talking about that semi again. It's a similar case for Misbah in chases.

Maybe it's because Afridi has been delivering rubbish for the last year and if you consider his career as a whole, has been mediocre against non-minnows...whereas Ajmal has very rarely lost us matches and actually won us numerous games.

Ajmal is not a bottler, far from it in fact. Today was a bad day for him no doubt. He himself will know that he will have to perform to his usual standard if Pakistan are to do well in the Champions Trophy. At least he will hopefully get to play in the warm up matches coming up.

I've never been a big fan of spinners bowling the last over of an innings. As sometimes even top edges can go for boundaries. High risk policy.

i think more then anything ireland played well and they shwed some very good batting . They are better then bangledesh and zimbabwe so they should be a test nation too , they have some very good batsmen and they chased don 300+ against england , so they are a good team . I think the cold and irish batting tied them this game

Not easy for a spinner gripping the ball in that cold, especially when he's not used to such conditions at all.

The boys were probably abit complacent today so I'm sure they'll come back stronger next time around.

He should rest in next game rehman should play in place of him . asad ali in place of adil and riaz in for irfan

When Ajmal does bowl the last over and he bowls well then no one says anything (e.g., Pak vs SA World T20 2010)... but if he does bad then everyone starts questioning the decision... I do agree though that he should never be bowling the last over

Associate teams tend to play without fear and apprehension. I bet you Warne and Murali have had similar days where unknowns were smashing them around the park because they're not incapacitated by the reputation of a bowler.

So does this make murli a bad bowler ? *OFCOURSE NO* Ajmal currently is the best bowler in the world not only the best spinner

What did Murali ever do in Australia anyway? I saw that game and comparing that with today's game , Murali's spell was NOT an aberration. He was always average there. What happened today certainly is a one off. Will be shocking if this happens again.
and that table 1.No Indian bowler in that list in the 'top' 15-20 it seems. (with the dissing they get from everyone, not bad)
2.Almost 90% of those 'performances' have happened outside Asia (so called flat beds). :)))

Had this been Afridi, the entire PP forum would have asked for his head.

The difference between the two is that this sort of performance is an exception by ajmal whereas with afridi its the rule

Had a bady day. Not to worry. He's champion bowler and he will bounce back

play rehman then if its not working for him but he should not hav been given the last over(thats bad decision)
Ehsan should have bowled , why is ehsan in team then

That's actually not quite true..Ajmal's 2 five wicket halls, and 2 4wkt halls have come only in loosing matches. Infact, he's yet to take a 5fer in a won game..So Ajmal doesn't have that much impact on the result, as the general notion is.

dude, i can bet that i would have scored a triple ton and taken all 10 wickets, had India included me in the 2003 WCup. Does that make any sense? Of course NOT. So to say u can bet on events which are never going to happen only shows ur desperation to ignore yday's match. Ajmal has played only 81 ODIs, half of it in loosing causes, 20 matches in which he hasn't taken a single wicket. Yet the hype he generates on PP, makes u believe he's the don bradman of bowlers. He's a fine bowler but most 'mysterious' spinners (eg: Mendis) have good first 50-60 matches. I would like to see how he performs over the next 2 years, before that using Ajmal's name in the same sentence as Murali or Warne is foolish.

Completely agree with you on this part.. I would have used Ehsan regardless of win/lose..!

71 runs by Saeed Ajmal. Perhaps this can go in Pakistan in future its good Pakistan will get to know there mistakes. So, we will not find such a stupidity in future matches. Moreover good to see tough warmup matches.. :)

Even the best bowlers in the world can have a bad day, its nothing to worry about.

alright you all ungrateful fake fans

my boy Ajmal is allowed to have a bad series let alone a bad match....

so calm the hell down:moyo

Some of you Pak have serious shot sightedness. How much did he have to defend? 20? What was the gurantee that Junaid would not have lost the match within 3 balls?

Ajmal is the best death bowler Pakistan has at present. It maybe true that spinners are not the best bowlers at the death, its important to know that some spinners can be effective bowling at the death if they have the ability to bowl yorkers.

Spinners should never bowl generally in the last 5 overs of an innings anyway!

Whether anyone accepts it or not Ajmal needs assistant from pitches to.succeed.

This over reliance on Ajmal is what is holding us back in ODI cricket. We need to really have 4 seamers in foreign seaming conditions to become potent in the conditions!

he was a legend in the ODI format.Much more skilled than Ajmal at the death. He was a 1-off!

Please read the full post before making your mind halfway through. Saqlain was an exception.

We have threads here on PP proclaiming how Ajmal.is a maestro and legend and better than Saqlain. That post was directed at them.

Ajmal is far far from a great/legend/maestro whatever. He is very good bowler though.

This will be a 1-off. I don't think we'll see a performance like this from Ajmal in the next year or two.

Ajmal can't perform every time. Such bad days are reality checks that he needs sound support. And the last over should have been bowled by a fast bowler.

To those saying we need a fast bowler in English conditions, I agree.

Here's one man who has done well in English conditions.
