Positives of his captaincy:
- Pakistan made the finals of Asia Cup. The captains prior to him did the same. No decline in team's performance
- before his captaincy, even the games with Afghanistan were getting tight. Bowlers were making us win through their batting (Naseem Shah). Under his captaincy, we are winning against teams like Afghanistan with relative ease
- Babar struggled against Rashid Khan. Agha didn't. Gives confidence to the seam
- under his captaincy, the abuse of DRS referral was brought down. Previously the senior players would abuse the DRS while they were batting & bowling. DRS were wasted when Agha was not captain
- he did try the new aggressive policy in batting but it didn't work out because of the conditions were favorable to bowlers. However, this policy is good and will help us on flat pitches. Flat pitches in T20 are inevitable
- he is a a good public communicator. He articulated his opinion relating to the Indian situation very well. Predecessor captains were not good communicators. He looks more professional. What a Captain should look like in a press conference
Negatives:
- struggling with personal demons when it comes to his form in T20
- struggling to justify his spot presently
- did not meet his own standards. He is a very good batter of spin bowling. Pakistan expected him to bat better than other players in the Asia Cup conditions
- Failed to set high standards for the rest of batters in the Asia Cup by failing. Failed as a leader in batting
- did not bowl a lot in the Asia Cup. Conditions suited spinners. Goes to show he had very low confidence in himself in the entire tournament. A Captain's Low confidence is contagious and affects the morale of the entire team
Conclusion:
Overall he seems to be a better option than the predecessor captains but must start performing on a consistent basis to justify his spot
The results of Pakistani team have not been affected materially one way or another due to his captaincy, so far
I hope if he regains his form, he will continue the policy of positive batting
PS: my opinion is biased because I want Babar, Rizwan, Harris Rauf, Shadab Khan, etc out of the Pak T20 team. They had their time. Now is the time to invest in new blood
