In my opinion, which I have held for quite some time, including during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Salman Butt is the best cricket analyst we have. He speaks with maturity, makes valid points, and focuses on real issues. In contrast, Wasim Akram mostly engages in banter and criticizes players beyond acceptable limits without offering meaningful insights.

Salman Butt, while speaking on his YouTube channel, shared his thoughts:

“Who are the people driving this narrative in Pakistan? Are they highly educated or deeply knowledgeable about the game? No. 99.9% of them are pushing these arguments for TRPs and social media engagement.”

“Their goal is to appear as if they care more about the team than anyone else because that’s what generates views—and views bring money.”

“If you are a former player, take real steps instead of just making statements. Work for the game beyond personal gains. Words alone won’t bring change.”

“Cricket criticism is justified, and players should be held accountable for their performances.”

“However, they should not be disrespected or humiliated. The legends of the past were given their due respect, and today’s players deserve the same. Criticize, but do so with decency.”

Meanwhile, Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, also voiced his concerns while speaking to a local channel, criticizing former Pakistani cricketers for their approach:

“Such big players like Wasim Akram—saying such disgusting things? And people around him are laughing. They should be ashamed. Shoaib Akhtar, such a big player—you are comparing Pakistan's players with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli? Wasim ji, you are sitting there and making money, no? Go back to your country and conduct a camp. I want to see which of you greats can help Pakistan win a World Cup. If not, resign.”

“If I go there (to Pakistan), I will make the team better within a year. You will all remember me. It's all about passion.”

“Talking big while sitting in the commentary box doesn't make a difference.”

“So many Pakistan players are there, sitting outside and talking about the team—it doesn't paint a good picture. Have you ever seen ex-Indian players using such harsh words for their own team? It has a big effect. At a time when your players are low on confidence and the team's morale is going down, if they hear what you all are saying, they will be under even more pressure. You are all legends—they will listen to you.”

“I am saying this to everyone. All these players came because of Imran Khan. Today, is there anyone like him to mentor youngsters? Tell Wasim Akram ji, Waqar Younis ji, and Shoaib Akhtar ji—you keep talking about talent. Pakistan is full of talent. You were also identified once. Someone helped you become good cricketers.”

“I don't like anyone from any country using such words for their own players.”

Pakistan fans in general are truly hurt. Emotions are high and few of the statemetns are understandable. But lol @Yograj Singh

Salman is largely responsible for the state of Pakistan cricket today. Had he not been involved in spot-fixing, the course of Pakistan cricket would have been entirely different. His actions not only led to his own downfall but also forced a major leadership change, bringing Misbah into the picture.

While Misbah’s tenure brought stability, it also introduced a conservative and safety-first approach that shaped the cricketing culture for years to come.

Without Salman’s scandal, Pakistan’s cricketing trajectory could have been far more aggressive and dynamic, potentially producing a different breed of cricketers and a more fearless style of play.

Former Pakistani cricketers go beyond criticizing and become personal and say hurtful things in public. They are very toxic in criticizing, no wonder the 90’s era was a wild one despite the strong team full of raw talent and skills. The same players who are toxic towards their own team are seen licking and praising Indian cricketers at every chance.

Wasim Akram is a big jahil at times and often forgets his own match fixing days.

On the other hand, former Indian players are known for their dignified and respectful behaviour.

Excellent post bro.

I would like to add it also allowed timid, meek type of individuals to thrive and he even made them feel untouchable.

Also, a he set a terrible precedent by playing beyond his 40s. We have players like Ifti, who is well over 40, believe they can continue playing for as long as they like.

Who can forget the greatest remnant of Misbah’s era? Cutting cake for hundreds and 5fers after losing games. He started this trend after Shafiq’s hundred in Brisbane. This speaks volumes about the small team mentality of Pakistan cricket.

There was a time where our players had swag, character and were allowed to be themselves. I could never imagine them cutting cake to celebrate a milestone after a lost contest.

No one has damaged cricket more than Misbah and yes he only became relevant of someone’s sins.

In this case I find it hard to differentiate between the message and the messenger.

Salman Butt, he of the conveniently times confessions.

And Yograj Singh who clearly has serious issues and needs help.

Rashid Latif took an indirect dig at cricket legends Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis following their sharp criticism during a show on a local TV channel:

“The boys from Dubai have stirred up quite a scene. They seem delighted, showering each other with praise. Throughout their careers, they were always at odds, which took a toll on Pakistan cricket. Fascinating individuals—offer them money, and they’ll do anything.”

This isn't below the belt?

He has insulted 2 of his country's finest cricketers.
