What's new

Sana Mir has been captain of the women's team since 2009 - So why instability in the men's team?

Food for thought! :13:

We have had YK, Afridi, Salman Butt, Misbah and now Sarfraz as our test captains whilst our PDI team has been an even faster revolving door!

Is it due to less egos in the woman's team? Less politics? Lower profile and publicity? Or just less hype and money involved that they just play for the game?

Men cricket is more important..

As for Misbah, I just can't say anything..... he's just so ____

Yeah lesser grouping also sana has been an ideal captain choice her family is of army background and she has a strong education... so she was the ideal person to serve as the face of an emerging team... the 'misbah' of our women's team

Nah, we just couldn't find a good captain in the shorter formats. Sarfraz is already looking like the best captain we've had in years.

No offence but not many people care about the womens team. There is less pressure on them. Media is barely interested in them. Within the board also, I think they just see the women's team as a part of like corporate social responsibility.

interesting thing i found in women's team is they even have players from gilgit baltistan, balochistan etc a healthy representation of players from all over pakistan, a true pakistani team

pakistani mens cricket team is all about power, regionalism, favoritism, corruption etc

Hit the nail on the head

The media is one the biggest reasons we have revolving doors in captaincy so often. Everyone known there's a certain Jouranlist on one certain channel who got up to a lot . He is the worst due to his relationships with players but there are plenty of others as well

The day protesters pelt stones at Pak Womens' players homes when they lose in an international tournament is when we will know if the Womens game has attained same status

Is this a serious question?

There's maybe a few thousand people in Pakistan that care about the women's team as compared to the entire country for the men's team. Obviously the scrutiny level is different

Various factors, the main one being that Sana Mir is a fantastic captain and has got a good record. Was really impressed with how she marshalled her troops against India in the World Cup.

She wins most the games against teams of a similar stature, and gets an upset win here and there, so along with the lower level of media/public scrutiny of the women's game, there's no massive pressure on her to be replaced.

name five women player from the pakistani team.

if u can, ask a random pakistani to do that.

you'll have your answer.

Similarly do you think the common person could name 5 current Pakistani hockey players? Yet we've had plenty of captaincy changes there.

The only ones I know are Sana Mir and Bismah Maroof

Hockey is most definitely bigger than women's cricket, and it's not then close. Especially among people who are 50+ .. Hockey used to be huge in the 80s and even early 90s

Hockey is also a much much bigger world sport than women's cricket

Sorry no offense but only in this thread I found out our Women's team captain is Sana Mir. Have heard her name though. She was in some TV program some years back with male cricketers.

One reason I see is Pakistan's women team is a minnow team compared to rest of the world and I have seen this trend that minnow teams usually had long standing captains in past.

Wasn't Misbah Captain for around 5 years?

Seems stable enough.

There is nothing in their cricket that can cause instability.

He means that the women's side doesn't have the raging egos that many most of the male cricketers have, undeserved or not.

The women's side also gets insufficient investment to actually do much beyond what they're doing now. Women's sports are generally a luxury to spend on as it's rare that women's sports anywhere will ever have the same level of money generation as men's sports. Europe and the USA have large women's sports infrastructure, but even then only the very best teams turn profits and the goal is to break even. Look at Title IX in the United States for a good insight.

Because people don't really care about the woman's team. It's harsh but true.

If it had the same status as the men's team we would have seen 5/6 captains already.

Firstly, factually incorrect. Misbah captained for a long period albeit unsuccessfully.

Secondly, because nobody watches women's cricket therefore no pressure from any side to demand a change even if they continue to lose.

Men's team is right in the middle of the radar, women's team isn't even on it.

Bump.

I had asked this question about Sana Mir's captaincy and women's cricket a while back.

Interesting to reads everyone's responses on how PCB has no reason to change anything for the women's team.

However, our poor performance in the World Cup has led to many upheavals in the women's game including removing Sana Mir as captain, appointing a new selection committee and appointing a new interim GM and appointing Mark Coles as the Head Coach.

Looks like "instability" is finally happening in the women's game too!
