Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday warned the PTI of "worst repercussions" if its protesters resorted to violence, created chaos or indulged in blackmailing during the party's upcoming protest on August 13 at Islamabad’s Parade Ground.

"Remember that you will be allowed to hold peaceful protests [...] it is your constitutional right [...] but if you use violence or threaten and blackmail [the government] then there will be repercussions worse than May 25 [...] we are prepared for it," he said.

Sanaullah was referring to the party's long march to the capital earlier this year when its supporters dislodged containers placed to impede their advances and braved tear-gas shelling to somehow reach the D-Chowk in the capital.

His statement comes a day after PTI chairman Imran Khan said that he would announce a strategy to “counter the fascism” of the coalition parties.

Talking to media persons in Faisalabad today, Sanaullah hit back at the former prime minister, and accused him of constantly changing his plans, which he said was reflective of the fact that he himself was unsure of what to do next.

"Now he has called a jalsa and said that an ultimatum will be given," the minister said. "[He will issue an] ultimatum for what? To call elections? But what happened to you wanting to remove the chief election commissioner (CEC)?

"First, remove the CEC, dissolve assemblies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, get your [National Assembly] resignations accepted and then talk about elections," Sanaullah said, adding that until the route he mentioned was taken, the PTI's demand for fresh polls would count as a sham.

He reiterated that holding protests was every person's constitutional and democratic right. "But we won't allow any person or party to create inconvenience at any cost."

'PTI chief misleading the nation'
Talking about the negative social media campaign on the tragic incident of army helicopter crash amid flood relief operation in Balochistan, the minister said that the army's role in the country's protection, whether it was related to national security or natural disaster, was "honourable".

"Today, I want to clarify that in this nation of 22 billion people, you won't find one person who doesn't love the army or doesn't respect its sacrifices," he asserted.

"I believe that those who create these trends have been led astray. And I have said this multiple times that this man, who is the head of the PTI, is misleading the nation and dividing the youth," Sanaullah alleged, calling on the public to reject Imran.

He warned that if the PTI chairman was not rejected today, he would "mislead the nation towards an untoward situation that none of us want".

The minister went on to say that the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) verdict in the prohibited funding case had proven that Imran was a "foreign agent" and responsible for creating "chaos and anarchy" in the country.

He further promised that all the people "responsible for leading the nation astray" will be punished. "We have formed two committees in the FIA (Federal Investigation Agency), one will initiate inquiry against the hateful comments against the military and the other will probe foreign funding.

"Let me promise you today that every person named in the inquiry will be booked and arrested," Sanaullah added.

Rana you coward. Lets see how hard you are without the 100,000 thugs.

LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is confident Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is going to be disqualified in the Toshakhana reference as he has not declared in his assets the amount he received from the sale of state gifts.

“Imran Khan is certain to be disqualified in the Toshakhana reference as he did not declare in his assets the millions of rupees he rece*ived from the sale of state gifts. This is a two-plus-two case. He has done an illegal and immoral act and will be disqualified,” Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said while talking to journalists in Faisalabad on Monday.

Citing the case of his party supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, the minister said: “A standard has been set by disqualifying Nawaz Sharif for not receiving salary from his son’s company. If he can be disqualified over it then Imran Khan is certain to face the same fate for not declaring millions of rupees in his assets that he got after selling the Toshakhana gifts,” he stressed.

Last week, the PML-N-led coalition government filed a reference with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking disqualification of ousted premier Khan from holding public office for allegedly acquiring gifts from the Toshakhana state repository.

The reference demanded the ECP disqualify Imran under sections 2 and 3 of Article 63 of the Constitu*tion, read with Article 62(1)(f). Article 62(1)(f) is the same provision under which former prime minister Nawaz was disqualified in 2017.

A group of MNAs associated with the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had filed another reference with the ECP seeking Mr Khan’s disqualification from holding public office for receiving prohibited funds from a number of foreign donors.

On the other hand, PTI senior leader and former minister Pervaiz Khattak said the so-called plans to oust Imran Khan from politics would not succeed. “Only the public can oust Khan from politics and no one else,” he said and declared there was nothing “concrete” against the PTI chairman in the prohibited funding and Toshakhana cases.

Interior Minister Sanaullah further said when a watch gifted to Imran by the ruler of a country was taken to a Dubai market the latter was contacted and asked whether it was stolen. “This was not only an illegal and immoral act, but it also affected Pakistan’s relations with that country,” he claimed.

Arrests in funding, chopper probes

Mr Sanaullah further asserted that the government would make arrests in the Federal Investigation Agency probes into the PTI’s prohibited funding and the malicious social media campaign against the army helicopter crash.

“The government has formed two committees of the FIA -- one probing into the social media smear campaign in the wake of the army’s chopper crash in Lasbela, and the other into PTI’s prohibited funds. Those found guilty in the investigations will be arrested,” Sana announced.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry reminded Sanaullah to go after those (Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz) who were alleged to have laundered billions of rupees instead of forming several committees to probe into Rs20 million charges.

“The coalition government made Hamza Shehbaz, a Rs24 billion money laundering accused, flee to London, but formed five FIA teams to investigate Rs20m charges (against the PTI). Do Shehbaz and company consider the public fool? After Muharram, accountability of the suspects of May 25 will begin and the nation should start preparations for the final round of struggle for real independence,” Chaudhry announced.

PTI warned against violence

The interior minister warned that stricter action than that of May 25 (during the PTI’s long march on Islamabad) would be taken against Imran Khan and the PTI if they resorted to violence in the name of protests to press the government to call early polls.

“The PTI is allowed to hold peaceful protests as it is the constitutional right of the people, but if it resorts to violence or blackmail, the government will take stronger action than that of May 25,” he said, while referring to the PTI’s one-month ultimatum to the government for fresh elections.

Sana’s warning comes a day after former premier Khan said he would announce a strategy to “counter the fascism” of the coalition parties and not budge from his stance of fresh polls being the only solution to steer the country out of the economic crisis.

Sana also taunted Khan for pressing the government to announce a date for elections and at the same time demanding removal of the chief election commissioner (CEC). “You (Imran) should first remove the CEC before demanding fresh elections. You should stick to one stance. Also, you should dissolve the assemblies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and then ask us for dissolution of the National Assembly,” he commented.

He also blamed Imran Khan for the hateful online campaign against martyrs of the army helicopter crash. He said Afghanistan had not yet blamed Pakistan for a drone attack on its soil in connection with the killing of Al Qaeda leader Zawahiri, but Imran was doing so.

'Punjab govt to investigate Sanaullah'

The PTI leader said that the PTI had written a letter to the Punjab government seeking an investigation into the events of the party's long march to Islamabad within 15 days.

The march on May 25 was preceded by the authorities invoking Section 144, a measure used to curb gatherings. Shipping containers were put in place on major thoroughfares to block their path.

Undeterred by the moves, the marchers, who tried to force through the containers to make their way to Islamabad, were met with tear gas as police tried to disperse them. Police also charged at them with batons.

Talking to reporters, Chaudhry said that the Punjab government had began investigations and was probing PML-N leader Atta Tarar and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah as well.

"Unlike them [the federal government], we haven't displayed fascism, neither have we picked up people. We are just investigating people and that is our right."

He said that if Tarar and Sanaullah would hide in Islamabad, "we will have no option but to declare them wanted", adding that the leaders should not be scared and clarify their position on the matter.

Chaudhry also criticised former Punjab chief minister Hamza Shehbaz for "running to London". "These are the people who have money laundering cases registered against them, yet they are given relief.

"While the wife of Shahbaz Gill's driver is suffering. The women of Izhar's families have been dragged by the police," he said, highlighting that the moral imbalance in the society was deeply concerning.

The PTI leader also expressed confidence that by Monday, Gill — who was arrested for passing controversial statements against the armed forces — would be granted bail.

A first information report (FIR) was filed against Interior Minister and PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Gujrat’s Industrial Area Police Station on Thursday, ARY News reported.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of common citizen Shahkaz Aslam.

According to the FIR’s content, Sanaullah blatantly targeted honorable judiciary and government officials in 2021.

The FIR’s copy, available with ARY News, further read that Rana Sanaullah’s statement has instilled anxiety, terror, and unrest among the public.

Taking to Twitter, Punjab Home Minister Colonel (retd) Hasim Dogar said the charges framed in the FIR against the incumbent interior minister are serious and action would be taken in accordance with the law.

The recent FIR against Rana Sanaullah comes days after a terrorism case was registered against Imran Khan in Margalla police station for allegedly using derogatory language and threatening Additional Session Judge Zeba Chaudhry in his speech in Islamabad on August 20.

The ATC today approved the interim bail of the PTI chairman until September 01 against a surety bond of Rs100,000 and directed him to appear before the court again.

ATC ISSUES SHOW-CAUSE NOTICE TO RANA SANAULLAH

DG KHAN: An anti-terrorism court in Dera Ghazi Khan issued a show-cause notice to Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for not complying with the court order, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The ATC also issued show-cause notices to National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) chairman and interior secretary. The court also summoned Rana Sanaullah, interior secretary and Nadra chairman in personal capacity.

The ATC action comes after neither the interior minister nor the Nadra chief complied with the court orders and committed negligence in the performance of their duties.

The court had ordered the government to put the name of an accused whose case was sub judice on the Exit Control List (ECL). It also ordered the Nadra chief to block the identity card of the accused.

On Aug 25, a first information report (FIR) was filed against Interior Minister and PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Gujrat’s Industrial Area Police Station.

KARACHI: Describing those involved in “enforced disappearances” of political workers, human rights activists and other individuals as violators of the Constitution, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday claimed to have taken up the matter in line with the premier’s directives, which included a comprehensive plan to address the issue that, he said, was “more painful than death”.

However, talking to reporters after meeting coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Move*ment-Pakistan (MQM-P) at the party’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad, the interior minister apparently conceded the government had limited writ in this regard.

When asked that some enforced disappearance cases dated back to the previous governments of the PML-N and PPP in the centre, he said: “There’s no denying and we all know that how much writ successive governments have had and [the current one] still has in this regard and what are its other aspects.”

He reiterated this in a tweet later on, saying: “It’s a matter of embarrassment for the state that instead of bringing people under the law, they are disappeared and then their bodies are found. Everyone knows the extent of the governments’ writ in this regard. I assure you that we are trying to solve the problem through reconciliation rather than confrontation.”

Still, during the presser, Mr Sanaullah was confident that this time the government would leave no stone unturned to fix the menace once and for all that remains unresolved for decades despite claims from the respective governments, civil administrations and the judiciary.

The interior minister, who drove to the MQM-P’s office minutes after landing at Karachi airport, held a detailed meeting with the leaders of the party and also met with the families of workers who had been missing for the past several years.

After more than an hour-long sitting, he addressed the media along with MQM-P leaders to share the details of his engagement and, probably for the first time, came up with strong-worded thoughts on the subject.

Editorial: Missing empathy

His visit to Karachi came after the MQM-P strongly reacted to the recovery of bodies of its missing workers from different parts of Sindh. The party even questioned the reason for being a coalition partner after it came under serious pressure within the party ranks and workers, who protested against the non-implementation of a “charter of rights” agreed with the PPP and the PML-N in March to strike a deal with the ruling coalition on almost all of its years-old demands.

“The MQM is our coalition partner and I am here with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to convey assurance on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that we would not leave any stone unturned to address their grievances [about missing workers],” Mr Sanaullah told reporters said.

“I can imagine the feelings and pain of the families [of the missing persons]. This grief is more painful than death and those involved in this [enforced disappearance] are actually violating the Constitution of Pakistan. We are absolutely clear about this. And we will do everything we can.”

He said disappearing people by force had tarnished the country’s image the world over and attracted serious questions from global organisations on Pakistan and its affairs.

The MQM-P was not the only party facing this issue, as the same was the case in Balochistan, Mr Sanaullah admitted, adding that recently the federal government had made a similar attempt in Quetta to convince demonstrators, who had been staging a sit-in for 50 days for the recovery of their missing loved ones, to call off their protest.

To a question about his confidence in addressing the decades-old issue, the interior minister said he would prove this with action instead of giving a statement, as it could “drag him from his objective”.

“There’s no denying and we all know how much writ successive governments have had and it still has in this regard,” he said but added that he wouldn’t make a statement that might help him win brownie points but put the real issue on the back burner.

“I assure you that we are focused on addressing this issue from where it can get resolved,” he said. “We would do whatever we can to protect the fundamental rights of every citizen. Any person who disappears, his or her recovery is the state’s responsibility.”

A Rawalpindi court on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in a corruption case.

The order, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, was passed by the court of Senior Civil Judge Ghulam Akbar. It states that Sanaullah was nominated in an first information report (FIR) and his arrest “is necessary in the case, so non-bailable arrest warrants of the accused may be issued”.

“Records reflect that contention of the investigating officer is genuine, hence, the same is accepted in the interest of justice and non-bailable arrest warrants of the accused namely Rana Sanaullah is issued accordingly,” the order stated.

The development was also confirmed by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) of Punjab.

“The warrants have been issued because Sanaullah failed to appear in the anti-corruption inquiry despite being summoned several times,” a spokesperson of the department told Dawn.com.

He added that orders have been issued to arrest the minister and present him for the probe.

Elaborating on the charges against Sanaullah, the spokesperson said that the minister has been accused of purchasing two farmhouses at the Bismillah Housing Scheme in Kallar Kahar at a price lower than the scheduled rate.

“Both the plots were given to Sanaullah’s wife as a bribe.

“Akhlaq Ahmed, the owner of the society, has also been booked for bribing Sanaullah with a plot to get his society registered,” he said, adding that the opening ceremony of the project was attended by both the minister — who was in charge of the law ministry back then — and his wife.

Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar, corroborating the warrants, said that Advisor to Punjab CM on Anti Corruption Musaddiq Abbasi will provide further details regarding the matter in a press conference later in the day.

Meanwhile, PTI, on its official Twitter account, said that a police party has departed to arrest Sanaullah and will soon reach the Kohsar police station.

“According to the rules, the process of arresting Rana Sanaullah will begin by informing the local police,” it added.

Officers at the Koshar police station of Islamabad refused to arrest Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, saying his residence is out of their jurisdiction, ARY News reported.

According to details, an anti-corruption team led by Inspector Abdur Rehman reached Kohsar Police station with a non-bailable arrest warrant against the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader.

However, they had to return disappointed as the Koshar police refused to arrest the federal minister citing his residence out of their jurisdiction. The anti-corruption team was advised to contact the police station that has Sanaullah’s residence in its jurisdiction.

Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Anti-Corruption Brigadier (retd) Mussadiq Abbasi on Saturday said that it has been proven that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had “committed a crime”.

He said this while addressing a press conference in Lahore, hours after Rawalpindi court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the federal security czar in a corruption case.

Providing the details of the case, the CM’s aide accused Sanaullah of receiving two plots in private housing society — Bismillah Housing Society located at Lahore’s Kallar Kahar area — as a bribe in return for construction permission from the provincial authorities.

He said the project was inaugurated in 2017 while it got approval for construction in 2018.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against Sanaullah in 2019 on charges of receiving bribes but he neither cooperate with the investigators nor appear before the court, Abbasi said.

Subsequently, Abbasi said the interior minister in 2022 sent the affidavit of ownership of the plots to the authorities concerned.

He also claimed that documentary evidence was also available with the officials that Sanaullah got the plot registered in his name against Rs900,000.

Denouncing the arrest warrant, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the warrant was issued because PTI chief Imran Khan was “frightened” by Sanaullah.

“There is a conspiracy to spread corruption and chaos in order to divert attention from the corruption of the 'lying foreign agent' who played with national security and fooled the people,” she said referring to the PTI chief.

Marriyum alleged that preparations were being made to attack the federation on the ex-premier's orders

Preparation on to invade federation on Imran’s orders: PML-N
There is a conspiracy to spread corruption and chaos in order to divert attention from corruption of the foreign agent, says Marriyum

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) leaders Saturday strongly denounced the arrest warrants for Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, saying that preparations were underway to invade the federation on the orders of former premier Imran Khan.

They said the Punjab government wanted to arrest Rana Sanaullah as he was the biggest hurdle in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march plans.

“There is a conspiracy to spread corruption and chaos in order to divert attention from corruption of the foreign agent, who played with national security and fooled people,” Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said referring to the PTI chairman. She strongly denounced the arrest warrants, claiming that the warrant was issued because the PTI chairman was frightened of Sanaullah. She said that arrest warrants of Rana Sanaullah were issued in Lahore as Imran Khan was afraid of him. In a tweet, she said the PTI chief was playing with national security and trying to hoodwink people.

Separately, Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif Saturday said the PMLN leaders were not afraid of the Punjab Police’s attempt to arrest Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. He said Rana [Sanaullah] had always faced such political witch-hunts bravely in the past.

“We are not afraid of the Punjab government. If they want to arrest us, then they can do so,” the defence minister said. It was critical to bring everything to light to show the public their true faces, Asif said, adding that in the days to come, the PTI would not be able to find a place to hide face.

In his conversation with journalists, while referring to Imran Khan, he said that “neutrality of the institutions” was hurting a person “very much”.

“All of their narratives fell flat. Everybody knows why the PTI chief sent the President of Pakistan to the army chief and why they have made an offer until March-April. This neutrality is hurting one man (Imran Khan).”

Kh Asif said that two audios were leaked on Friday, and everyone heard the conversation taking place in it. The conversation brought the truth before the public. He said Imran Khan was talking about buying and selling parliamentarians in the audio leak. “Azam Khan says in audio that they are going to make a new cipher out of the minutes of the meeting. Now, Imran Khan says they have no idea where did the cipher go and also don’t name the US,” Asif said. He said that Imran Khan could get the audios audited forensically to check if those were fake.

Giving Imran Khan another broadside, Kh Asif said Khan and his sisters sold properties and made 80 trust deeds.

The army was still fighting the war on terrorism and embracing martyrdom, the defence minister said. “Armed forces are still actively defending Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the province did not have even a semblance of a government,” Asif added.

To a query about PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming, Asif said previously Nawaz returned to Pakistan when was sure of getting arrested and this time around he would definitely set foot on the soil of the country because it was his homeland.

The federal minister said that before the 2018 elections, Imran Khan made promises to the people to give one crore jobs and five million houses. However, none of those promises were fulfilled by former prime minister, he added.

The federal minister said that 190 million pounds that Britain had sent belonged to the Pakistani government, but Imran Khan credited it to one individual’s liability account. He regretted that no PTI leader, including its Chairman Imran Khan, ever visited the flood victims.

ACE team reaches Islamabad to arrest Interior Minister Sanaullah in land scam case

A team of the Punjab Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Monday arrived at the Islamabad’s Secretariat Police Station in compliance with the orders of a Rawalpindi court seeking the arrest of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in an inquiry related to purchase of plots in a housing society at a “throwaway price”.

According to Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister for Anti-Corruption retired Brigadier Musaddiq Abbasi, Sanaullah had taken two plots as “bribe” from an “illegal housing society” — the Bismillah Housing Scheme — in Chakwal district.

Earlier today, a special judicial magistrate of Rawalpindi issued directions to the Punjab ACE officials, asking them to arrest and produce Sanaullah before the court.

The hearing was conducted by special judicial magistrate of Rawalpindi Ghulam Akbar, who had also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Sanaullah at the request of the ACE last week.

The ACE had obtained the minister’s warrant since he allegedly failed to comply with repeated summons in case number 19/20 registered with the anti-graft body.

Akhlaq Ahmed, the owner of the society, has also been booked for allegedly bribing Sanaullah with a plot to get his society registered, claimed the prosecution.

At the hearing today, the ACE team requested the court to declare the minister “proclaimed offender”.

However, the magistrate turned down the plea, saying the suspect could not be declared proclaimed offender at this stage.

The court directed the ACE to take into custody and produce the minister before the judge.

In response, the officials told the court that they would approach the Ministry of Interior if police extended cooperation in the case.

Abbasi, the Punjab CM’s adviser, said on Saturday the ACE had initiated an inquiry against Mr Sanaullah (in 2017), who was then the Punjab law minister.

“During the investigation, it has been revealed that in the opening ceremony of Bismillah Housing Society, Colony Kallar Kahar, Rana Sanaullah, who was provincial law minister at that time, participated along with his wife. The housing society’s owner gifted Mr Sanaullah two plots measuring 10 kanals as a bribe,” the adviser had said and added the plots in question were transferred to Sanaullah by the society at a much lower than scheduled rate.

Abbasi had said these two plots were still in the possession of Sanaullah and his wife, which itself was “proof” that he had got these as a bribe by using his official position.

He said the case was registered in 2019 but the minister did not appear before ACE. “Sanaullah was re-summoned on Oct 6 but he did not appear before the ACE after which non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against him,” he said.

The retired brigadier said the ACE was taking indiscriminate action against the corrupt elements and no one was above the law.

A team of the Punjab Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE) tasked with the arrest of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday returned empty-handed due to the ‘non-cooperation’ from Islamabad.

According to the details, the anti-corruption team could not arrest Rana Sana in the cheating case against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

Following the court orders, the anti-corruption team reached the Secretariat police station and met the SHO and sought compliance with the arrest orders of Rana Sanaullah. The court order and arrest warrant were also handed over to the station head officer

However, due to non-compliance with the arrest warrant, the anti-corruption team returned empty-handed. The arrival of the anti-corruption team was also not mentioned in the register.

The anti-corruption team said that they reached the Secretariat police station for the compliance of the court orders, but they failed in doing so. On the other hand, the SHO said that the warrant has been received and updates will be shared in this regard, later.

Earlier in the day, a senior civil judge in Rawalpindi, Ghulam Akbar ordered to arrest and produce Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah before the court in fraud case, after an attempt to arrest the interior minister went in vain on Saturday.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday said that he will be approaching the court against the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) for “tampering records” and “misleading the court” in a four-year-old case against him related to the purchase of plots in a housing society at a “throwaway price”.

Last week, a Rawalpindi court had issued an arrest warrant for Sanaullah. According to Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister for Anti-Corruption retired Brigadier Musaddiq Abbasi, Sanaullah had taken two plots as “bribe” from an “illegal housing society” — the Bismillah Housing Scheme — in Chakwal district.

In a series of tweets today, the minister alleged that the anti-corruption establishment was acting as a tool for its political masters and had falsified the record of a four-year-old case against him.

“ACE has obtained the warrant by deceiving and misleading the court by deliberately hiding the facts. This is why they are hiding the case records along with the warrant which is a legal requirement.”

Sanaullah clarified that all the prima facie evidence of forgery and fraud had already been presented in the case, claiming that the warrant was a “nefarious conspiracy” against the federal government aimed at gaining relief for PTI chairman Imran Khan.

“Hence, we have decided to approach the Hon’ble Court against fraud, forgery and record tampering,” he added.

ACE team fails to arrest Sanaullah
Earlier today, an ACE team returned empty-handed from Islamabad’s Secretariat Police Station, citing a “lack of cooperation” from the officials.

The anti-corruption body’s officials from Punjab arrived in the capital around noon and left within an hour, complaining that the police officials there did not comply with the court orders.

ACE Punjab Director, Syed Anwar Ali Shah said that in addition to non-compliance of court orders, the ACE team’s automobiles were also forced out of the police station. “We will inform the court about it tomorrow,” he told reporters as he exited the Secretariat Police Station.

However, in a tweet later today, the Islamabad police claimed that ACE refused to present the record in the case. “A formal arrest warrant was received in the police station. Regular arrivals and departures were also registered.

“The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment was told to adopt a legal way as per the law but it failed to adopt a clear stand,” it said.

The Islamabad police added that it was present at all times to comply with all court orders, but clarified that action would only be taken according to legal regulations.

Court orders minister’s arrest
On Monday morning, a special judicial magistrate of Rawalpindi issued directions to the Punjab ACE officials, asking them to arrest and produce Sanaullah before the court.

The hearing was conducted by special judicial magistrate of Rawalpindi Ghulam Akbar, who had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Sanaullah at the request of the ACE last week.

The case

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah's plea requesting the court to withdraw the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him was returned by the court on Tuesday with an objection.

According to Express News, the legal team of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) filed a request to withdraw the arrest warrant issued by a senior civil judge against Sanaullah.

The petition noted that under the Section 76 of the CrPC, the court can authorise the investigating officer to receive bail bonds.

Further, the petition accused the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) of “misrepresenting” facts in obtaining the arrest warrant.

"Rana Sanaullah is in Islamabad, not hiding anywhere, so the warrant of arrest should be withdrawn and the investigating officer should be ordered to receive bail bonds," the plea maintained.

However, the senior civil judge returned the application with an objection, ordering the PML-N leader to submit before the court an affidavit confirming his counsel.

Talking to the media following the development, the PML-N's legal team said that affidavit will be submitted.

The warrants

Last week, Rawalpindi’s Senior Civil Judge (Criminal Division) Ghulam Akbar issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the interior minister.

The ACE had alleged that Sanaullah purchased two plots in Bismillah Housing Scheme, located in Kallar Kahar area, at a price lower than the scheduled rate. It further claimed that both the plots were given to Sanaullah as a bribe.

Although the court issued the arrest warrant, the ACE officials failed to arrest the minister due to a "lack of cooperation" from the police.

Two days later, a fresh arrest warrant was issued for the ACE to immediately arrest the minister and produce him before the court. However, the ACE team returned empty-handed again.

The previous arrest warrant had only one address of the minister mentioned, whereas it was requested to add more addresses in the fresh warrant.

The minister, in a statement after the ACE’s second attempt to arrest him with the fresh warrant, alleged that the ACE committed “forgery” after becoming a tool of its “political masters” in a four-year-old case.

He said that the ACE "did not fulfil the legal requirement of providing case record with the arrest warrant," adding that the move was a nefarious conspiracy to influence the federal government to get some relief for “Imran fitna” – a reference to former premier Imran Khan.

Sanaullah had claimed that action would be taken against all those involved in "committing forgery and misleading the court", and that he will approach the court against the officials concerned.

The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Friday suspended Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah’s arrest warrant in an inquiry related to the purchase of plots in a housing society at a “throwaway price”.

Last week, the court of Special Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Akbar had issued an arrest warrant for Sanaullah.

According to Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister for Anti-Corruption retired Brigadier Musaddiq Abbasi, Sanaullah had taken two plots as a “bribe” from an “illegal housing society” — the Bismillah Housing Scheme — in Chakwal district.

Taking up a petition filed by Sanaullah’s lawyer against the warrant today, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan stopped the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) from arresting the minister and raiding his house.

The court has sought the case record from ACE by October 17.

On October 10, an ACE team returned empty-handed from Islamabad’s Secretariat Police Station after failing to arrest Sanaullah because of a “lack of cooperation” by the Islamabad police.

However, the Islamabad police had claimed that ACE refused to present the record in the case.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Sanaullah accused the anti-corruption department of “tampering records” and “misleading the court” in a four-year-old case against him.

“ACE has obtained the warrant by deceiving and misleading the court by deliberately hiding the facts. This is why they are hiding the case records along with the warrant which is a legal requirement,” the minister said, adding that he would approach the court against ACE.

The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Monday grilled the officials of Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) for failing to furnish evidence against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in a corruption inquiry related to purchase of plots in a housing society at a “throwaway price”.

The court had on Friday suspended Sanaullah’s arrest warrant in the same case and sought the case record from the ACE today.

Taking up a petition filed by Sanaullah’s lawyer today, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan reminded the ACE lawyer to furnish proof before the court.

“Rana Sanaullah is the purchaser of plots from a housing society and you are filing cases against the buyer instead of providing protection to him,” the judge asked.

ACE lawyer responded that the no objection certificate of the housing society had not been issued. However, Justice Khan said the NOC had nothing to do with the case.

The judge asked the prosecution to provide evidence corroborating their claims that the minister acquired plots as a bribe. “Where is the proof?” he reiterated his query to the ACE lawyer.

The court directed the prosecution to furnish evidence to support its claims and adjourned the hearing till Oct 28.

During the proceedings today, the ACE informed the court that the FIR alleges that "Rana Sanaullah and his wife bought property, but his name is not mentioned", adding that the reference to the PML-N leader has been made by mentioning him as a "provincial minister".

Dismayed by the information received, the court remarked "there is nothing against Rana Sanaullah, why don't we send you to jail?".

"There have been thousands of provincial ministers," the court added.

"Explain how this (alleged) corruption became bribe," the court said, "prove this; pray tell who did Rana Sanaullah bribe? What is the crime?"

"The civil judge issued illegal warrants without looking at the record," said the judge.

"Whether the allocation of plots is correct or not is the issue of the owner," remarked the court, "you [ACE] tell us where is the corruption?"

"Was the land bought below the District Collector (DC) rate?" questioned the court, noting that in that case a fine could be imposed but would instead be deemed a case of "Sanaullah being cheated" who, as the buyer "should have been protected" by the ACE.

"Who is the witness that said Sanaullah had taken a bribe?" inquired the court, warning that if it would not be satisfied by the ACE, then the body's director would be "sent to jail".

"This is a joke," the judge remarked, "whoever the institution pleases it deems a criminal and issues an arrest warrant".

The LHC adjourned the hearing till October 28 while ordering the anti-corruption body to appear with “full preparation” and also ordered the interior minister and DG anti-corruption to appear before the court.

"I have challenged this lousy attempt on part of the Punjab government and Imran Niazi," Sanaullah said as he expressed hope to be avenged by the high court.

'Conspiracy of Punjab govt'

Speaking to the media outside the court, the interior minister said that "when the Punjab government could not find anything else against us, they registered fake cases".

He also claimed that "all this was done at the request of the DG Anti-corruption Punjab", adding that the case was in fact "three years old" and Sanaullah was "not even named in it, nor am I in any way connected to it".

“Out of nowhere, a joint investigation team (JIT) was formed a month ago and the record was tampered with,” alleged Sanaullah.

"The magistrate was misled by misrepresentation in the subordinate court," he added, "my warrant was obtained by stating false facts, and they tried to defame me by releasing it to the media".

It may be noted that earlier, Rawalpindi’s Senior Civil Judge (Criminal Division) Ghulam Akbar had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the interior minister.

Sana blames inflation for PDM’s shocking defeat in by-polls
Interior minister warns Imran of crushing response on long march

ISLAMABAD:
A day after the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) lost to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the by-elections, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday said that the former ruling party got 10,000 to 12,000 more votes in each constituency due to inflation, particularly the high cost of electricity.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, the interior minister commented on the by-elections held on the seats of the National and Provincial Assemblies. “This election was clean and transparent, for which the Election Commission deserves the most congratulations,” he said.

“They were also managed by the Election Commission very responsibly, no one can say that any kind of partiality was used in Sunday's election,” he added.

Sanaullah said that since the beginning, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who has been engaged in making “poisonous and defamatory propaganda” against the chief election commissioner (CEC), has been proven wrong.

“I want to give a very clear message to the people of PTI that they got 547,000 votes and PDM got 475,000 votes,” he said. “Imran Khan, if you want us to accept the decision of 547,000 voters, you have to respect the opinion of 475,000 voters.”

The interior minister said that votes for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were also cast by the citizens of Pakistan.

“Democracy means respecting the vote, respecting the vote means recognising the decision of the vote and not changing it,” he said. “Accepting the vote in your favour and rejecting the opposition is not a democratic attitude.”

“We have spent our whole lives in prisons for democracy, I have data that PML-N got more votes than before,” he added.

He further said that in Sharaqpur, the votes of PML-N increased from 31,000 to 40,000. “If your votes have increased, our votes have increased as well,” he added.

“Since you do not care about your honor, you have also asked your workers to abuse the opposing candidate,” the federal minister said.

Sanaullah claimed that Imran will not get the support of any provincial government in the general election.

“We lost 10 to 12,000 votes in each constituency because of electricity bills; due to our difficult decisions, inflation and electricity prices increased,” he said. “Inflation and electricity prices will also be reduced.”

He further said that winning the by-election does not mean that the government should be removed in an unconstitutional manner. By winning the by-election, Imran did not get a licence to do “unconstitutional work”, he added.

He told the former premier that if he wants elections, he should return to parliament.

Regarding the long march, the interior minister said that if the PTI chief marches on Islamabad, he will get a “crushing response”.

“These people will be faced with full force,” he added.

NAB had also served his client a notice to probe the assets but they had challenged the notice in court, he added.

Rana Sanaullah clarifies he’s ‘perfectly fine’ after image of him on hospital bed go viral

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has clarified that he is “perfectly fine” after a photograph — purportedly from his hospital visit in Rawalpindi — went viral late Friday night.

Various social media accounts were circulating a picture of him lying on a hospital bed wearing a hospital gown and an oxygen mask.

His followers speculated about his health condition and the reason for the “sudden hospital admission”.

In an audio message tweeted in the early hours of Saturday morning, he addressed those “who got a bit worried after seeing my picture from the operation theatre”, telling that he was “perfectly fine”.

He stated that the reason for his hospital visit was to get a “minor procedure and a general checkup” done that the doctors at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology deemed necessary and did in a “state-of-the-art” manner.

Sanaullah mentioned that he had had heart surgery in 2004 due to which, a minor procedure and a general checkup are needed every two to three years.

He added that he had visited the hospital “two to three times this year” for this purpose.

The interior minister further said that he would be given permission to be discharged “within a day or two”.

He asked his friends to not rush to the hospital and that they would be “most welcomed” once he returns home on Sunday.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb had also posted clarifications regarding the matter.

She emphasised that Sanaullah had gone for “a routine checkup” and that there was “no truth to the speculations about his health.”

Rana Sanaullah approaches Lahore court seeking acquittal in narcotics case

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Saturday approached a special court in Lahore seeking acquittal in a narcotics case filed against him during the PTI government's tenure.

In July 2019, Sanaullah was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force’s (ANF) Lahore team while he was travelling from Faisalabad to Lahore near the Ravi Toll Plaza on the motorway.

The ANF claimed to have seized 15 kilogrammes of heroin from his vehicle. A special team of the force had also arrested five others, including the driver and security guards of the PML-N leader.

He was twice denied bail by the trial court, however, the Lahore High Court ordered his release on Dec 24, 2019.

According to the first information report registered by the ANF, it said the force had received information that Sanaullah was allegedly involved in drugs trafficking and was taking heroin to Lahore.

In his plea filed today, Sanaullah argued that the case against him was "concocted, devised and fabricated".

"The prosecution remained unable to bring an iota of evidence against the petitioners/accused and the entire judicial file is also silent about any incriminating piece of evidence against the petitioner," reads the petition, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com.

He further contended in his petition that the case was the consequence of "political victimisation," as he also referred to a statement of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, saying "the ex-minister had categorically stated that this case was not lodged on the asking of lmran Khan's government and it was lodged by some influential personalities of the country".

The minister urged the court to acquit him of the charge "in the interest of justice, equity and fair play".

Speaking to media outside the court, Sanaullah said it was the right of his party to get all false cases quashed.

"The cases against our leadership lodged abroad are even being dismissed," he said in response to a query.

The minister called out PTI chief Imran Khan, claiming he wanted political instability in the country for his own mileage.

LHC moved against Sana for ‘ridiculing judiciary through audio leaks’
Petition contends that interior minister wiretapped ‘privileged communication’ between Elahi and his lawyer

A writ petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday seeking contempt proceedings against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for “ridiculing” the judiciary through an audio leak containing conversation between a lawyer and his client.

Petitioner Muhammad Shahid Rana contended in his petition that on February 16, Sanaullah confessed in a press conference to wiretapping a telephonic conversation between Punjab former chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his counsel, Supreme Court Bar Association President Abid Shahid Zuberi.

The interior minister leaked the audio claiming that the former chief minister wanted to get a case fixed before his favourite judge in a bid to get a favourable decision, the petitioner alleged.

He maintained that the conversation held between a client and the lawyer was “privileged communication fully protected and prohibited to be intercepted or stolen according to...Article 9 of Qanoon-e-Shahadat Order 1984”.

The petition added that the interior minister not only taped the conversation of a client with his lawyer illegally through his subordinate public servants, but also directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to lodge an FIR against them.

He made the remarks during a joint session of parliament in which the minister argued against holding general and provincial elections separately. On March 1, the Supreme Court had ruled that the elections to the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies should be held within the stipulated period of 90 days. It had, however, allowed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to propose a poll date that deviates from the 90-day deadline by the “barest minimum”, in case of any practical difficulty.

On Mar 10, the ECP later wrote separate letters to the president and the KP governor. In the letter to President Dr Arif Alvi, the electoral watchdog proposed dates between April 30 and May 7 for the elections. Alvi later the same day announced that elections in Punjab will be held on April 30.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday called for holding ‘greater dialogue’ among all stakeholders including opposition parties and treasury benches to steer the country out of prevailing crises, ARY News reported.

Talking to journalists outside Supreme Court (SC) today, the interior minister said that the greater dialogue will help in evolving a consensus agenda over charter of economy, charter of democracy and charter of peace.

Rana Sanaullah noted that it will also help defuse boiling political temperature in the country and resolve the sufferings of the common man.

He said the government respects and honours the opinion of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and other judges of the apex court. “However, if the dialogue is to be held only for optic purpose, it will serve nothing,” he noted.

In response to a question, Sanaullah expressed the resolve that terrorism was neither out of control nor it would be so in future. “Our armed forces are fully competent and capable enough and carrying out intelligence-based operations against terrorists on daily basis,” he added.

Rana Sanaullah further said despite all these actions and operations, threats of terrorism still exist, but all the relevant authorities are in coordination and discharging their duties to root out this menace.

Replying to a question, the federal minister criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, saying that the latter’s stubbornness and obstinacy was the main hurdle in initiation of dialogue.

He said under the prevailing circumstance, elections will result in only disturbance and anarchy in the country, “which is the main agenda of PTI and Imran Khan”.

“If govt wanted to arrest Imran Khan, he would have been arrested earlier as the PTI chief was appearing before courts with few people.”

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said Saturday there is no other option but to impose a ban on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following three-day-long violent protests that erupted following the arrest of party chief Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

His statement came a day after the PTI chief was granted a blanket relief by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) as the authorities were barred from arresting him in any case till May 15 (Monday).

“It’s important to have a stance against armed groups. There is no other option but to impose a ban on this party [PTI],” the interior minister said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.

He said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led coalition government would be compelled to take extreme measures to outlaw the opposition party "if it did not change its attitude".

Sanaullah said the PTI chief’s only objective is to spread chaos and anarchy in the country.

He also held the Khan-led party’s workers and supporters responsible for damaging public properties and storming military installations across the country during the countrywide violent protests.

“The government will bring these ‘gangs’ to the book. They [miscreants] will be identified through CCTV footage cameras and rounded up one by one,” he added.

He also took a jibe at the courts for granting relief to the PTI chief saying the situation would have been brought under control if Khan was not granted relief.

The Interior minister’s presser came hours after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Punjab government to move swiftly and arrest the vandals within 72 hours as he visited the Corps Commander House in Lahore that was ransacked by the PTI protesters.

"I have given law enforcement apparatus a target of 72 hours to arrest all those involved in facilitating, abetting and perpetrating the disgraceful incidents of arson, ransacking, sabotage & damaging public & private properties,” the PM said after chairing a meeting at the Punjab Safe City Authority Headquarters in Lahore.

At least 10 people were killed and dozens of others sustained injuries during the two-day protests with internet services also remaining suspended for over 72 hours across the country.

After the supporters attacked army installations, the army said that May 9, 2023 — the day when chaos gripped the nation following Khan's arrest — would go down in history as a "dark chapter".

The army called the PTI leaders “hypocrites” for inciting their workers against the armed forces on the one hand, and praising the military — in a bid to overshadow their criticism — on the other.

Khan has criticised the military in the past and following his arrest, his supporters raised the stakes by attacking military targets — torching the residence of the corps commander in Lahore and attacking the entrance to the army’s headquarters in Rawalpindi.

He is the strongest interior minister in Pakistan’s history. The way he brutalises and annihilates government’s opponents is unmatched and unrivalled.

You seem to be extremely proud of him. Do you have his poster hanging on your bedroom wall?

What in your view is his job?

His job is to look after the interior affairs of the country: this includes keeping the law and order situation of the country under control.

During his tenure, he has encountered mostly issues relating to PTI supporters causing chaos and spreading anarchy. It is understandable to see his tone and use of language against the party.

We have nothing against PTI. But tell me how does setting alight radio stations, motorways, and breaking into an Army commanders house solve anything?

Out of the PMLN guys, he has the strongest use of language and resolve. Therefore, he is the right man for the job.

Indeed. He comes across as a real man of honour in this entire fiasco. Dealing with thugs the way he should

I have nothing against PTI. They are allowed to exercise their constitutional right in a peaceful manner.

But if you are going to destroy state artefacts and break into people's houses, don't expect the Interior Minister to sit there with a smile and say "shabash".

But I guess it’s justified because of the murders of Zilleh Shah and Arshad Sharif? @bewal_express

He is one of the best interior minister we had have. He has kept Sheikh Rasheed on a leash

Should we start listing the number of brutalities this man has inflicted on people in recent times.

Here is one

My 2 cousins (2 girls) were standing watching the protest in Lahore - not sure if they had PTI flags or not, they were picked up by the police 3 days ago for no reason other than being bystanders, incarcerated.

Their father passed away in the meantime - they were not allowed to leave until intervention via an Army source.

This is what Sanaullah is about.

So please don't talk about these people as defenders of democracy as they are nothing but thugs.

Sanaullah suggests Imran can be arrested against if evidence found regarding his involvement in protests

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has suggested that PTI Chairman Imran Khan could be arrested again if he was found to be involved in the recent protests across the country.

In a press conference, he stated that every time the PTI took to the streets, the same 100-200 people were found to be involved in violent activities. “So this means that they have been trained to do this.

“Imran has trained them and they are his investment,” the minister said. “These are terrorists … they were trained for eight months and they were told to go and set fire to specified locations.”

Rana said that we will do anything to stop IK including illegal things. This is the guy responsible for upholding the law through the police. I thought it was fake news until I heard this loser actually say it. This is the type of cretin the army have aligned themselves with. A man with no morals

Best of luck explaining that to PTI supporters

It’s not wrong for them to name call/abuse people who don’t support them

Sanaullah has the blood of all those who were murdered by the police under his directions.

Another Sanaullah special:

Message from a close friend of mine who came out with his family to hold a banner that Imran had asked people to hold between 5:30 and 6:30 pm

"We were warned to leave because the police were moving in. Within minutes of our leaving, the police started arresting families with children. These people have gone berserk not because they feel powerful but because they fear the wrath of IK returning to power. This is an existential conflict, little chance left for any reconciliation."

The poor girls left without a father..

There are hundreds of examples and one can only hope and pray that these crooks and thugs are one day rounded up and sent down to hell where they belong.

Let me clarify that the father was old and at home but the way the girls were picked up by Police and then held against their will whilst being told that the father had passed away, all of it is something Sanaullah and his protectors, Inshallah, will answer on the day of judgement.

If a person decides to go on a protest, he or she should know what will happen. You dont get paid Rs. 1000 for coming to a protest. Doesnt work that way.

People should be aware from history what will eventually happen. Now to whine about that xyz event took place because they were protesting, well what did those protestors expect?

Right now, inquiry will take place on the people who vandalized corp commanders house, offcourse all will be picked up one by one. Now should they be complaining? Didnt they knew when all this will die down they will be picked up no matter what.

There is a reason why many people didnt travel to work, because they knew the price of being outside during those days.

Yes and killed a few on the side for fun, eh? Very strong guy this.

did Rana sa'ab personally shoot someone?

In Pakistan, there is no such thing as bloodless protest especially when you decide to pick a fight with the army. Blood will be spilled on either side.

Rana Sa'ab has been the best interior minister we have had for the last couple of years, the internal security when it comes to Imran protests has been great.

Its day 5, and no one knows where Sheikh Rasheed is hiding.

Not sure how your understanding of chain of command is.

Think about it. Then comeback to me as I really am too upset to reply to such comments.

Btw, the protest was a big set up.

Usually in Pakistan what happens is that if there is a genuine security threat, like for example some foreign president is visiting Islamabad, or there is a shia procession passing by, the govt would order phone signals to be shut down. By phone signals I mean both call and internet signals. This way any bomb threat through telephone system gets destroyed.

Now during this protest, the govt did ban cellular internet, but it never shut down phone signals. The goal was that after all this protest would die down, they will than track down each protestor through geo fencing and geo signal data that was obtained due to being on the grid.

Did Rana personally kill anyone? Are you serious? Did Hitler personally kill anyone? Did Stalin personally anyone or Pol Pot.
You have made many silly posts but this has to take the prize. Well done.

Corps commanders house attack was allowed with the full connivance of GHQ. Commander ordered an enquiry but the plan was to get him murdered and ban the PTI. Thankfully these duffers aren't the brightest and more will come from this story

This is what I meant when I said, this country has no hope because of the jaahil awaam more than the corrupt leaders.

Not sure what sort of defence this is for murder?

Thev went to the house unchallenged. They abused the guy but he told them his daughter and wife in the house and as expected they being men of ghairat let the guy go. He then orders an enquiry about his security and he is removed. Beghairat Munir wanted him murdered. This was part of the plan to ban the PTI and get a General murdered

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehryar Afridi asserted on Saturday that he did not personally incarcerate Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah during his tenure as the narcotics control minister in 2019.

Afridi made these remarks while addressing the media after appearing in a district and sessions court in Islamabad, where he was handed over to the police on a two-day physical remand.

Shehryar Afridi attended the court hearing presided over by Judge Naveed Khan for a case related to his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots. During the proceedings, the investigating officer requested a five-day physical remand for Afridi, citing the need to conduct photometric and voice matching tests. Judicial Magistrate Naveed Khan granted permission for Afridi to meet his family in the courtroom before being remanded to police custody for two days.

Upon reaching the rostrum, Shehryar Afridi became emotional and stated, "My brother passed away, and I was not allowed to participate in the funeral. Protesting is my constitutional right. I did not take the law into my own hands."

After the hearing, Afridi addressed the media, clarifying his stance. He emphasized, "Let me make it clear that I did not put Rana Sanaullah in jail. A major general, who was the head of ANF, arrested him based on intelligence reports. They had everything against Rana Sanaullah."
