Sanjay Raut Called Ahmedabad 'Mini Pakistan', Must Apologise: BJP

The BJP on Sunday accused Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut of "defaming" Gujarat by calling Ahmedabad a "mini Pakistan" and demanded that he apologise to the people of Gujarat
and Ahmedabad.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai earlier in the day, Raut asked whether actress Kangana Ranaut had the courage to compare Ahmedabad to 'mini Pakistan' the way she equated
Mumbai with Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).

Raut and Ranaut have been locked in a bitter war of words since the actress termed Mumbai unsafe after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

"If that girl apologises to Mumbai and Maharashtra forcalling Mumbai a 'mini Pakistan', then I will think about it. Does she have the courage to say the same about Ahmedabad?" the Sena MP had asked.

Taking umbrage at Raut's remarks, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya said the Sena leader insulted the state by calling Ahmedabad a mini Pakistan.

"He should apologise to Gujarat, Ahmedabad and Amdavadis," he stated.

Pandya said the Sena should stop using any opportunity to defame Gujarat, Gujaratis and leaders from Gujarat "by targeting them out of jealousy, hatred and malice".

"This is the Gujarat of Gandhiji and Sardar Patel. Sardar Patel has strengthened the unity and integrity of India by uniting 562 kingdoms. Junagadh and Hyderabad were prevented from going to Pakistan and made to stay in India due to his guts and strength," he said.

Pandya added that Patel's dream of making Kashmir an integral part of India by revoking Article 370 has been fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home
Minister Amit Shah who are from Gujarat.

"Therefore, Gujarat's contribution to India's unity and integrity in the past and present should be remembered," he said.

I was there this year actually, admittedly after a very long time. Pakistan might not be Dubai, but then India definitely isn't either. Unless the only version you ever come across is Bollywood.

Me too and they should, absolutely but I guess the only rationale I can come up with is the other part of Gujarat region which is around the present day Karachi is probably still maintaining names of its pre islamic Sanskrit roots, so may be a peace offering. I don’t know, any historians please correct me.

Funny though however most UP Muslims where most of these name politics take place are in Karachi as Mohajirs where as the Hindu Sindhis and even Gujarat Bohra Muslims a very affluent and influential Gujarati trader community and most other Gujaratis (Hindus and Muslims) have stayed back in India.

The only reason BJP has not changed it as yet is that the Walled City is a Unesco World heritage city. And they dont want to lose that status.

No city in Pakistan with a Pre-Islamic Sanskrit origin name has been changed. Only thing changed are some neigborhoods, or British named cities.

Mumbai: Sanjay Raut, caught on camera using an expletive in his tirade against actor Kangana Ranaut, has been appointed chief spokesperson of the Shiv Sena.

The Rajya Sabha member has, over the past few days, lashed out at Kangana Ranaut over her comments comparing Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and has even said she should stay out of Mumbai.

Sanjay Raut, also the executive editor of Shiv Sena mouthpiece ''Saamana'', will lead a team of spokespersons that includes Lok Sabha MPs Arvind Sawant and Dhairyasheel Mane and Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi.

Sanjay Raut has not apologised for flinging an abusive term at Kangana Ranaut but he conceded in an interview that his choice of words could have been better.

"I may have made a mistake," Sanjay Raut told NDTV.

"Kangana also makes these mistakes, we have seen several times," he added, apparently referring to the 33-year-old actor's comments about feeling unsafe in Mumbai.

"I said if you don't have faith in Mumbai police and administration, if you call our police mafia, then why do you stay here?"

Mr Raut also hit out at the BJP government at the centre for providing Y-Plus category security to Kangana Ranaut, which means she will have CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) commandos protecting her 24X7.

"If the centre thinks a person who talks in derogatory language about the Maharashtra of Chhatrapati Shivaji and Mumbai of Mumba Devi, if it thinks it is right to give her security, so be it. If the National Commission for Women thinks such a woman should get security in this country, it is up to them. But the people of Maharashtra are watching," Mr Raut said.

He also challenged Kangana Ranaut to produce evidence if she knew anything about the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

The actor's row with the Maharashtra government erupted over her criticism of the handling of the Sushant Singh Rajput investigation and her remark that she felt unsafe in the city. In a fierce backlash, Sena and NCP leaders including state Home Minister Anil Deskhmukh said she should stay out of Mumbai if she felt that way.

Ms Ranaut then doubled down on her offensive, wondering why "Mumbai seemed like PoK".

She has since faced protests and threats from the Sena.

Level of obsession, and "this extent" are unmeasurable and just your experience. Maybe it is only now you are getting exposed to this reality. Not just you, there is an entire generation of indians who are having mental conflicts when they are getting to see the real india which always was. Tamil Nadu not having pakistan as an important topic has a reason. Just like Sri Lankan tamils or SL politics are not a hot topic in Mumbai.
