Sarfaraz Ahmed - Captaincy Watch

Sarfraz Ahmed could turn around the World economy of you allow him, surely. Wow wow wow...

Dont change a winning combination now Sarfaraz!

Same team going forwards..

I hope those crediting all 11 losses to him (even though he wasn't even playing 6 off those matches) are man enough to credit this win to him as well. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

These are Pakistani fans lol

Hahah i think one main factor was because he scored some runs.

Although he was hardly middling shots but it was good to see he showed intent from the start even against express pace of Wood and Archer. One reason i love him; he is a fighter despite his limited abilities.
Ah man, imagine under how much pressure he was...

Also he looks to be in good form with the bat, has scored a 97 and 55 recently.

He was just amazing with his passion today. Did make a few mistakes here and there, but the passion was through the roof and the bowling changes were spot on. His use of Hafeez and Malik, and the angles with he choked Root and Stokes a bit in that little phase was brilliant to say the least.

Also made a spunky 55, which contributed greatly at the end.

Mixed performance today.

Good move to open with Shadab but again being late to the 'slip party' by not having a slip for Wahab only to see a catch go through the cordon.

Another one who has now seen the 'light' :p

dont want to rain on the parade but the defensive captaincy will eventually bite pakistan, babar dropping root was bad strategy, one floating slip against the new batsmen when you're defending 350 is criminal, also no slips when he brought wahab back similar. game got a lot closer than it should have.

bowlers will get smashed, only way of having a fighting chance on these pitches is aggressive fields.

Babar dropping Root was strategy? Like it was actually Sarfarazs fault

Yep this was probably his only mistake. In the future he needs to attack new batsman, especially when Wahab was bowling back of the length at great pace. He found the edge many times- it could have been costly.

The worrying thing for me is that this doesn't seem like a one off thing. Not having slip for your prime bowler is something that we've seen quite often in recent times. Just tells me that he's not confident enough in his bowlers to induce the edge

Make no mistake. The guy isn’t a fool behind the stumps and reads the game perfectly.

If only his bowlers could execute plans for him regularly

yeah, thats exactly what i said.

if you dive towards the keeper you cut down the distance the ball travels, hence the ball comes at you faster versus diving away.

it was both their fault. babar should still have caught it.

but its part of a larger trend where sarf errs on the defensive.

Serious praise by Bish.

Serious praise by Bish.

To be really honest its about seeing what i call the 'light'.

Some like Nasser and Bishop see it while majority haven't and won't see it.

I have said it a thousand times that Pakistan would have never won CT if Sarfaraz was not the captain. Gimme a tournament victory and final win over India over dozen bilateral loses anyday.

Hope this is the last time I have to listen to this village idiot mumbling and chuntering his way through an interview.

He will take the flack for much but you have to question the selection and coaches too.
No specialists and relying on Hafeez and Malik and too many all-rounders.

Not taking slips - once for Wahab and then for Shadab - poor captaincy

Can't wait to see him stripped of the Captaincy after world cup... Never seen a Dumb Captain as him... Not sure he's coward or he lacks game awareness... His decisions are killing this team bit by bit...

You've got to admit, Sarfaraz just isn't a positive captain, even if he goes on to win us the World Cup.

Should have placed a pacer for a break through at least

So true Mickey. The garbage thrown at him through words in social media and fans was simply too much and no captain of a nation’s sports team deserves that. We are unfortunately illiterate as a nation and this is part of us. But to show mental character to come from that and win like this is commendable.

He looks fed up and not someone who is enjoying his cricket or captaincy at the moment.

I won't be surprised if he walks away from ODI captaincy pretty soon.

Sarfraz: Better Test or ODI/T20 captain?

With all the recent talk of split captaincy, I'm afraid PCB might make another blunder. I believe Sarfraz is better captain in the shorter format. Keeping him as the Test Captain and taking away his captaincy in shorter form is retaining his relative weakness.

Your thoughts?

He's a terrible captain in all formats but the absolute worst at Tests. If we must keep him then for LOIs. He hasn't done anything in tests with the bat since 2014 and his tactics are bad.

Asia Cup 2018 really dented the confidence of Sarfraz and Hasan Ali.

After that the downfall of these two started.

Over engineering Hasnain? needs to relax Hasnain not get on his head

Misbah speaking to the press today:

"No matter how big a player you are, whenever you make a comeback after a long time out from international cricket, no matter the opposition, there is pressure on you and it takes time to recover from that. Sarfaraz is under pressure but as a coach and management team, I try to support him as much as possible so he plays his natural game and the same for the other players. Pressure doesn't help, in T20Is you need to express yourself. I am remaining positive and I am hopeful that the same goes for the players and we do well in the match tomorrow. Whenever you lose as a #1 team it hurts and I think everyone felt that, we will try to make sure the outcome is different"

The more he gets exposed the better chances of him being dropped. Misbah is right that he hasnt given himself chances. He is like that silent student in a group who wants to hide behind others presentation skills. The days he is asked to present on behalf of the group, he is more likely to fail and embarrass himself.
