89* now. The lone fighter today for Pakistan.

2nd Best. Best is De Kock

de Kock is more potential based, I think. He's an absolutely fantastic player but right now I would marginally rate Sarfraz ahead of him. By the time de Kock is more mature as a cricketer and closer to being the finished product he should be comfortably rivalling Gilchrist as the best keeper-bat of all time, which is above and beyond the likes of Sarfraz, BJ Watling, Buttler etc.

In Tests Sarfraz is the undisputed king.

And this ODI series in England will stamp his authority in ODIs too - where some had doubts over his brilliance.

Consistency will be key.

Glad this has put again to the chants that Sarfraz doesn't deserve to be in the team. He's stepped up when given responsibility in LOI. Which is why he averages higher up the order than at 7 etc. Far better than Kamran.

Tests yes

But LoIs? Not even close. Mushfiq, Ronchi, De Kock, Chandimal are head and shoulders above him.

In Tests undoubtedly and since Tests matter the most Vaughan may be right

Always believed in him, wish we had space to fit him higher in the innings.

And no De Kock is not better at least in tests.

But no, our experts yasir Suleiman and aliasad1998 want him out of the ODI side, so they should drop him. :))

De Kock's is better, but still Sarfraz is great. It's refreshing to now have one of the best wicketkeepers/wicketkeeper-batsmen in the world, when in the past we had one of the worst (even on just batting alone).

This was still 1986 style Miandad 100, which is best Sarfraz could ever deliver. It was quit clear no big shots are going to come. Problem is it's not 1986 anymore, 250 is like 180 in those days...

Pakistan has to reboot the team and bring power in their game, LOI is very different ball game, it has digressed a lot from test cricket. Nothing has changed my opinion about our team and Sarfraz.

Wow surprising comment. I would say Jos Buttler is best right now in ODIs. Yes in tests Sarfraz takes it.

Clutching at straws. Keep your grudge up buddy.

People like you would rather see Sarfraz get a duck and Pakistan lose rather than him scoring a ton which gives Pakistan a decent chance.

There will come a time we will stop following LOI cricket. I don't care about individual players, we are so bad, we need a entire new setup, sooner we realize better it is. These little victories are for people who follow individual players, I see much bigger problems, these little things does not matter to me.

Malik, Sarfraz, Hafeez, Azhar are all not for LOI cricket, not just that Pakistan don't have players to play this format. We are like BD of 2000s, who are going to loose 95% of matches against top teams and specially western teams. Not playing at home is really showing in modern format, where things have changed so much from the time when cricket was played in Pakistan to today.

Michael Vaughan at it again.:yk

In Tests, it's a close contest between Bairstow and Sarfaraz.

In LOIs, De Kock, Buttler, Chandimal are ahead of him. But he is certainly improving.

Yeah, because he came in at 2-3 under immense pressure:facepalm:

At 2/3, even Kohli will try to play a similar innings. He lacks power game but he is better than everyone else for #4 batting position because he can keep the scoreboard ticking. And you are also forgetting that he is a wicket keeper first.

They won't learn. Any hundred regardless of how meek is a moment of joy for Pakistanis because they are starved of 100s.

Very important cricker for pakistan .
Would have been incredible if he had power .
Gets caught so many times trying to hit big .

I thought it was a brilliant hundred under the circumstances. There's only so much you can do when your entire top order gets eviscerated for nothing.

Australia, the best 50 over team in the world, would make about 120 all out if you took out Warner, Finch and Smith for one run between them.

Early wickets win matches and Pakistan were no match for the new ball today, which is not exactly some new fangled modern cricket invention. Batsmen have struggled against the new ball on green pitches since the days of WG Grace!

Tests yes

But LoIs? Not even close. Mushfiq, Ronchi, De Kock, Chandimal are head and shoulders above him.

Luke Ronchi, based on what? that one off 170, what else has he done?

Mushfiq - the long lost grandson of Kamran Akmal? You amaze me.

The competition is between Kock and Butler.

Yes, not the best in LOIs - more clean strikers are there. However, consistency isn't really there for everyone.

The talent is there it just needs to be harnessed and Pakistan management to identify where he should bat. In his short LOI career he has opened, batted at 4,5,6,7 and etc. Hard for him to be consistent when he can't settle in the batting order.

I think Pakistan should seriously consider moving him up the order because he has the game to score hundreds.

Also he's not a hitter, so I think batting him in lower middle order is hampering him...

If you actually cared about the team, you wouldn't suggest dropping the man who scored a ton today for the team you support.

Try again.

In odi if i have option for me to whom i would like to come at n.o 6 or 7 for my team ,i would still opt for dhoni rather than anyone else....i would believe in dhoni rather than sarfraz ....and dhoni wicket keeping ,fitness, running between wickets skills are one of the best ever.

Don't have a grudge against Sarfraz, in fact he is my favorite player. For the sake of team he needs to be dropped. In current ODIs, only one accumulator is needed and ours is Babar. Sarfraz can't hit the big shots so he is useless at 5 or 6. I agree with yasir and Suleiman.

You won't see anyone other than Pakistani fans wanting a player to be dropped after he's scored a century

Sarfraz is an attacking player the only player who can bat at a decent run rate as per demands of modern cricket. He should be captain of ODI side. Azhar has to go.

And who are the power hitters? Azhar? Malik? Sami Aslam?

Yes, let's drop the guy who not only keeps wickets, but has a 50 and a 100 in the last 2 games for the 'accumulator' who's made a couple of flashy 30's this series

Vaughn is talking "across all formats"

So really not much competition for Sarfaraz

Lol, MV is absolutely................ wrong. Kock and Mushfiqur Rahim both of them r way better than Sarfaraz. If mushfiqur tries hard he can be the Dravid of Bangla. He's elegant and has wide range of shots in his armory.

Mushfiq ha ha ha guy celebrated before the game was won and lost it single handedly

Only one accumulator is too few in ODI's. It's not T20. I think we can accommodate Sarfaraz as he's an excellent wicket keeper and a far better batsman than Hafeez, Azhar and Malik. We should be looking to replace those three not one of our better batsmen. The problem of his batting position will also be solved once we find better ODI batsmen to replace the three mentioned above.

Bairstow is the better batsman, not the better keeper batsman. Sarfaraz is far and away the undisputed best in test match cricket.

In LOIs, I would take De Kock over him unless Sarfaraz continues to improve and De Kock's slump continues.

Vaughan is right though, across all formats Sarfaraz is the best.

Lol at Mushfiq. Infact samson is better then him and also saha and pativ patel. you are one heck of bais guy. I hope the heart burn is gone WE ARE WORLD NUMBER 1 IN TESTS LIVE WITH IT!!!!

Damn.

This Sarf guy just proved it.

No keeper/bat has ever been able to do THIS good in England, from a touring side at least, in recent times. (Not sure about past history.)

Became the best batsman of the entire series, among both the sides, above players like Root, Roy etc.

Unbelievable. Scored a ton as well.

So, strong case for ODIs too? Was already the best WK/bat in the world in Tests.

What's your take sensible-indian-fan

He indeed has had a bumper series in Eng.

But feel he cannot be yet called the best in an undisputed way.

DeKock, Buttler and Bairstow are just too explosive.

But he has announced himself as a major contender and he needs to get his LOI consistency right.

Based on current form, he is up there with the best.

Consistency will define his quality now.

Agreed.

What Sarfraz lacks is those explosive shots, clean striking. However, consistently scoring above 85-90 SR in the middle overs can offset that.

He's more of a Joe Root type of batter (not in terms of talent but scoring rate). Had better SR and average than Root.

But then again, for such knocks to be useful, we need players who can hit the ball above 110-120 strike rate, too. Which we lack.

Great player. The only aggressive batsman in our team who understands modern cricket.

Sarfraz Ahmed became the first Pakistan wicket keeper to score 300 runs in any ODI series. Prev highest: 253 by U Akmal in Asia Cup 2014.

Copied it from Social media.

He has improved his one day game which is rare for a Pakistani batsman.

Sarfraz should be a captain with Mickey.

They both want to play and understand modern day cricket.

Tests yes

Lol @ mushfiq being head and shoulders above other top keeper batsmen literally and metaphorically . He averages 31 @ strike rate of 75 odd . Ronchi isnt that great either .

I remember watching him bat in his first few games How hez improved Looked like a tailender with the bat back then

Hez getting better and better Well done to him for a great tour

Brilliant inng from sarfraz today - took the responsibility - play some magnificent shots

Superb knock. His striking was spot on vs pace and spin today.

Executioner thinks Mushfiqur is a better batsman than Sarfaraz...

Mushfiq has been great too in recent years. If i am not wrong he averages almost 50 in ODIs in last few years (100+ strike rate)

Even in test arena, he has been pretty awesome.

Easily the best batsman of Bangladesh. We call him Mr.Dependable and Run-Machine here in Bangladesh. However his shock failure against India may harmed his reputation of being 'dependable' but he's still a run machine.

Because Mushiq actually has been scoring a lot of runs in the last 2 years? Average around 50 with a good SR to boot. He is our best bat in ODIs

Also Mushy played some to knocks in all our wins in the CWC 2015, he is a clutch player. And in all those situations he came into bat with team in big trouble. Yes couple of them was against minnows but one was with BD reeling at 100-4 and the other was a top cameo while chasing 325+.

Funny how people are using that one single incident in march to make fun of him all the time. He made a fool of himself but he is capable

His record consists of feasting on Pakistan (absolute garbage ODI team), Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Scotland.

Plus, what about his test record? Averages 31 in 10 tests (past two years).

1) Joss Butler - strike rate of 120 with an average of 38, 4 hundreds. Keeping 6.5/10, Batting 9/10
2) De Kock - India's nightmare. ( 10 centuries already at a young age of 23, 5 against India, 2 vs England, 1 vs Aussies, 1 each vs Pakistan & Sri Lanka.) Strike rate of 90+ . Batting 10/10, Keeping 10/10.
3) M.S Dhoni - Boss, (he's old now, but still better than Sarfraz)

Sarfraz had just one good series, people shouldn't hype him like they hyped Mohammed Amir, we all know what that turned out to be. Sarfraz scored one century against Ireland so we shouldn't count that, minnow basher.
He scored one lucky century against England and scored 90 odd runs in a dead rubber, England already won the series so they didn't give their all. He hasn't dominated like De Kock, and is nothing exceptional behind the stumps. Keeping 3.5/10, Batting 6/10.

De Kock is a very good shout.

He's definitely the best right now across all three formats. Bairstow lags behind in T20s as of now.

Now he's potentially the worst, on current form. Hopefully he finds his form soon.

I still hold this view somewhat in ODIs. People disagreeing with me earlier cuz they were blinded by the hundred he scored, but now you can see.

Although Sarfraz has improved his hitting now so he can bat at #4/5, but no higher and no lower.

Now he's potentially the worst, on current form. Hopefully he finds his form soon.
still potentially? He has proven without doubt that he is the worst wicket keeper batsman in the world across all formats.

That comment was true actually that time - he was best or at most among top 2/3 WK-batsmen that time and he proved that in WC (SAF), or 5th ODI (ENG), or few Test matches (SRL/AUS comes to mind). But, those were 2-4 years back and this comment as well.

This is exactly why I have irritated posters several times on 3 particular issues (regarding Sarfraz)

1. A WK Captain is risky for 3 formats, work load is unbearable for most and it's unmanageable for a 30+ player. Add to that Sarf's own fitness, diet habit & structure - it's insane. Very few that could survive were naturally supreme athletes like Stuart, Sanga, Gilly, MS. Even MS actually left Test cricket and LO Captaincy almost at the age PCB appointed Sarfu.

2. The official age factor - need not to explain, BUT it matters most. These players are not my potential brother/son in law, hence how many years they hide hardly matters, but one has to factor that while appointing someone Captain. I can say for a WK, biological age of 35 is the MAX for most cricketers, may be 38 for rare few and for someone with Sarfraz's genetics (& appetite) it might not be even 30. Rest part of my post I can't prove, so won't write - fan base would slice me. May be, 5/10 years latter when Sarfraz comes in TV like WY or Mushi - from the hair line, we'll be able to complete my past part. And, I'll write every time - bring them young, bring them green - 23 is the max age for debut, or move on to next batch.

3. Never appoint someone Captain, who is struggling on his core task - playing cricket. He is still a good bet for LO cricket, at least till 2019, may be 2020 as well (Just few more months from 2019 WC); but not for Test.

Regarding his batting form or natural cricket skills, I won't do the same mistake again - almost felt that, I was cursed with a POTW :(

There was a time when Sarfraz was a better test batsman. Things have changed. I think he's better in shorter formats now.

This guy seriously needs to think about 2019 world cup and go on a strict diet and work on his fitness
