Inzamam-ul-Haq speaking on Fawad Alam selection:

"When I was Chief Selector, there was a lot of criticism directed at me due to Fawad Alam"

"It was said that I didnt give Fawad a chance and that is correct as he did not play in my tenure"

"During my tenure, a few senior players retired and I had 2 choices - I could either prepare a young team or play each series just to save it and then worry about the next one later" [as in long term planning]

"My selection team took the stance that we should have young players only"

"This was a tough decision [to play youngsters] as we could lose matches and I was also criticized for that"

"Fawad had played last Test in 2009 and I took charge in 2016 so already there was a gap of 7 years"

"I called Fawad Alam and said that if you feel listening to the media that I am against you then that is not correct"

"There came a time when there was a chance for Fawad to be be given an opportunity; This was a tough series for England and the team was preparing to go there; The Captain and Coach came to us to discuss the team selection; We had selected 15 players and I had been given permission to include 16 from the Board; I gave 2 names of Saad ali and Fawad Alam; Now I have never spoken about what goes on in selection meetings during my tenure but since Fawad is about to make a comeback after 10 years so I am saying this"

"Both, Captain and Coach, without wasting any time said we want Saad Ali"

"This is not to say that Captain and Coach had something against Fawad Alam as Saad Ali had top scored that season"

What a joker. Lol at 'young team'. You selected Hafeez as opener, dropped Sami Aslam. and stuck with old TTFs like Shan Masood, Shafiq, etc. You never gave a chance to a new middle order batsman. Even Haris Sohail is not young.

And Misbah brings him back his 2nd series as coach, legend. Sarfraz and Mickey both clowns.

He never gave any chance to Saad Ali and now he is no way near the team.

They were right. While Fawad coming back is a huge win for our domestic cricket champions, he is not good enough for SENA.

Brother Slog

You should now believe in Misbah and give him credit for making bold decisions.

Guy isn't afraid of playing young players, teenagers, debutants, and then even discarded players like Fawad which everyone wanted out till now.

Inzamam the liar.

Can someone ask him he was selector before Arthur and Sarfaraz, what about then?
For 3 and a half years he became a stumbling block against domestic performers, preferring jokes like
Azhar Ali, Hafeez, his nephew Imam, Ahmed Shehzad.
He did not select any performing player from QEA trophy and when he did he played them in format they are not comfortable in. His era as captain and chief selector is mired with selecting and supporting 3-5 players from Akmal clan, Malik and Hafeez.
Few days back he was comparing Fawad Alam to English player Ramprakash now trying to divert with absolute **. Never seen any senior cricketer putting someone down who is returning to the national side. Inzamam has crossed his limits

He wasn one of my favorite players now he is just
this nepotistic dictator selector who firewalled youngsters for his favorites and uncle of club level player Imam playing in national team due to his backing nothing more.

He and Waqar Younis have proven former cricketers if given role by a weak board, are worse than parasites and play with careers of many deserving people.

Inzamam should just cut the crap and speak the truth. You outed a guy who performed much better than your nephew. You say you wanted to build a team of youngsters which was complete bull as you added Abid Ali to Odis, continued with Hafeez, Malik, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq.

I'm glad Inzamam is gone such a smug, arrogant and stubborn character.

Same Inzamam was one of my heroes growing up, now unfortunately he's become a joke. Full of contradiction.

The fact Saad Ali hasn't even got a test debut yet is pretty dumb. He should have been given many opportunities already. Perfect age at 26, great record performing year after year consistently. Fawad even if he performs probably only has 1 or 2 years left in him. Shouldn't have been either/or though, with Misbah and YK retiring, and Asad should have been dropped, there was plenty of space to accommodate both.

I'd take Saad over Fawad at this point. I championed Fawad before, but as I said his potential is now limited due to his age. In fact I'd only bring in Fawad if he was to captain the team, otherwise no point, go with Usman and Saad.

Can’t believe this guy has nerve to say Fawad Alam’s name. He is responsible of destroying a man who could have threatened every Pakistani batting record. Inzi along with his team should be ashamed of themselves for the injustice they have done. I am glad he is replaced by a better Ul Haq. The honest Ul Haq. The man with dignity and honor. Someone who we can believe in with closed arms. Misbah has earned himself at-least 10 years with this remarkable decision I am sure he won’t regret.

His job was to select a squad not a team.
He selected Saad and Usman salahudin, Harris was young too that time, he also brought back Sami Aslam. Selected Babar even after failures. Selected Shaheen, he was young too

There must be a powerful lobby in Pakistan who are forcing their favourite players into the team. There is no other explanation for some players(TTF) making repeated comebacks into the team, while domestic performers keep being left out.

To keep will over peoples eyes, they select young bowlers to show that they are promoting upcoming talent. But those TTF keep making comebacks in guise of leadership n seniority.

This lobby must be really powerful and management is not able to ignore them. Their future and career might be stake so they might be forced to defend and back these players all the time.

There something behind the scenes we are not privy to.

This might just be my conspiracy theory, but I feel I might be right.

Not a big fan of Inzi and I condemn him being not fair with Fawad and many others but comparing Ul Haqs based upon honor and dignity they earned during their tenure ( as player and later ) Inzi is the only choice.

LOL. What a clown. What about the time Mickey asked you to drop Hafeez but you wouldn’t. This guy and his freaking YouTube channel is a joke. This same sector dropped Junaid Khan after selecting him for the WC squad because he couldn’t handle the media pressure to get Wahab Riaz in. Biased human being that discriminated during his time as captain and selector. Please, take your nephew and comeback when y’all got some substance.

Don't understand this Hue and cry over fawad alam, he's 34 now he probably could give us 2 years and after 2 years we are back to square 1 again.

We need to invest in youngers like Babar Azam, imam UL haq, Sami Aslam and build a team that can last for at least 7-8 years rather than recycling oldies after every 2 years

Fawad Alam was already 31 when Inzi became Chief Selector.

And he had been topping domestic chars for 4-5 years prior to that.

Inzi is not responsible for destroying Fawads career

People directing there anger at Inzi, haha.

Mickey Arthur himself was a big Malik and Hafeez fan. He wanted them at the world cup.

Do not forget that it's the coach who selects the playing xi from the squad.

Mickey kept backing and playing Shoaib Malik in the world cup over Haris Sohail. Malik shouldn't have gotten any game.

Till this day Mickey openly supports recalling Malik and Sarfraz in the team.

Inzi is not the only one but one of the selectors responsible. 31 is not too old for a batsman, 38 ( Hafeez ) definitely is .

Infact both Saad and Fawad should have been in playing eleven in middle order in place of Asad, Azhar.

He half-did the right thing.

He already had three geriatric batsmen in the squad in Misbah, Younis and Hafeez. Only an imbecile would have added another without removing Misbah or Younis first.

The real problem was after the 2012-13 debacle in South Africa. Misbah should have been thanked and retired at that point.
