"Satisfied with the security arranged for us, happy to lead my team to Pakistan" : Dasun Shanaka

Sri Lanka's depleted national cricket squad left for Pakistan on Tuesday expressing confidence in security promises by the hosts despite reports that the team could be targeted by militants.

The Sri Lanka team was attacked in Lahore in 2009. Since then most international teams have refused to tour the South Asian country, leaving Pakistan to play nearly all its “home” games in the United Arab Emirates.

Ten senior players citing security concerns have opted out of the tour comprising three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 matches beginning on Friday.

But the captain of the Twenty20 squad, Dasun Shanaka, said on Tuesday he had no misgivings about returning to Pakistan after they played a Twenty20 international in Lahore in October 2017, their first since the 2009 attack.

“I have been there before,” Shanaka told reporters just before the team left Colombo where they were blessed by saffron-robed Buddhist monks.

“I am satisfied with the security arranged for us and I am happy to lead my team to Pakistan. We hope to give a good fight to our very strong hosts.”

ODI skipper Lahiru Thirimanne said he also had no concerns and they had been given assurances of a very high degree of protection in Pakistan, usually reserved for visits by heads of state.

Sri Lanka's cricket board received the all-clear from the defence ministry last week to go ahead with the tour after establishing that there was no threat.

The 2009 attack left six players injured when gunmen attacked their bus. Six Pakistan policemen and two civilians were killed.

Tour schedule:

One-day internationals (all in Karachi): September 27, 29, October 2

Twenty20 internationals (all Lahore): October 5, 7, 9.

Dasun Shanaka : Whats his role?

Cant bat, cant bowl, cant field, poor captaincy

SL lost last 3 games because of this dud

Really surprised to see this guy has already played 55 T20Is..
His strike is 106 in 52 innings with just 2 fifties..
Also, role of Chandimal in the world cup squad is questionable.. Chadimal is garbage batsman from past 5 years in all formats.

I have been wondering how come you select a captain who doesn't even deserve a place in the team. This
bits and piece players robs your team with either a pure batsmen or bowler who would deliver on more occasion then these so called all-rounder dream of.

Happy for lanka that they have managed to discover few fine young talents in Nissanka, Most impressed with Asalanka and Hasaranga is already in top league also rajapaksha. I loved there opener Guan who got banned was really an amazing talent.

Perara, should not play T20s, He should be limited to ODI's and test.

Lanka entered this tournament with zero expectation and they have punched above there weight and got a fine bunch of young cricketers.

some of SL players are really good; Theeksana, Hasaranga

At the same time, they have non performing players.. who do not contribute in anything

Looks to me as a political appointment by someone heavy weight in SL

Absolutely brilliant innings today against Australia:

54 off 25 balls sees his team to victory by 4 wickets.

Time for Shanaka to put his money where his mouth is. Anything less than a match-winning performance here will make him look like a complete fool with zero credibility.

For those unaware of the context, he rightly said how Bangladesh only have two world-class bowlers in their line-up in the pre-match press conference.

Lol well.. ended up being true.

Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka conceded 30 runs in just the first three balls during the Abu Dhabi T10 2024 match between the Delhi Bulls and Bangla Tigers.

Dasun Shanaka started his day with a century in a first-class match before boarding a flight from Colombo to Dubai in the evening. Wasting no time, he headed straight from the airport to the ground and made an instant impact, smashing 34 off just 12 balls for Dubai Capitals in ILT20 2025.

Dasun Shanaka faces scrutiny for leaving domestic match midway for DP World ILT20 fixture on same day

Sri Lankan all-rounder, Dasun Shanaka, recently left a First-Class game being conducted in Colombo in order to feature for Dubai Capitals in the recently concluded DP World ILT20 on the same day (February 2). Sri Lanka Cricket are reported to conduct a full-fledged inquiry on the same.

The chargesheet levelled on Shanaka includes that the match referee of the red-ball game, Wendell Labrooy, had been deceived into believing that Shanaka suffered a concussion in a bid to be approved of a substitution.

However, the former skipper said that De Silva and the others had in fact been informed that he would depart from the domestic game on a premature basis. As per Shanaka, he visited a doctor at a nearby hospital after having left the ground on the third day's morning after being dismissed. This consultation was to check on a blow he copped to his neck on the same morning.
