Fakhar Zaman after the 2nd ODI

It's a bit disappointing to get so close as we were in a good position till the 47th or 48th over. But you have to give credit to the English bowlers as at the end they bowled really well.

The plan was to play proper cricket shots in the first 5 overs and when we get set to utilise our range-hitting.

Today with the big boundaries it was predictable when the short balls were coming and I was ready for the short-balls.

I didn't realise I had edged the ball when I was out. Babar Azam asked me and I said I wasn't sure. When it was reviewed I said I think I didn't touch it but that's the way it goes.

By scoring score runs against a bowling attack like England this has given me a lot of confidence and I will try to score more runs for my team in the upcoming matches.

Great news for Pakistan to see him get a hundred!

Some more quotes from a post match interview with Fakhar Zaman

"I have to thank the Almighty that I got some runs today but would have been better if I had been on the winning side today"

"All our guys fought well and that is a good sign for us and I hope that we will make a good comeback in the next matches"

"We fought well to the end but their bowlers bowled well in the end which took the match in their favour"

"Until the 48th over, the match seemed to be in our hand"

"I feel that we had restricted them well until the 33rd over of the England innings but Jos Buttler played an extraordinary innings"

"I dont think our bowlers bowled that badly but Buttler played really well and you need to give credit to him for that"

"I hope that our bowlers will learn from this experience and do better in the next games"

"In cricket you can have ups and downs but I will work hard and try and play a similar innings again"

"There is always pressure when you play international cricket and the first 4-5 overs are always tough but I felt at ease today once I started to play good strokes"

He took his time in the beginning and we saw him play a blinder today.

Just the same way when he took India apart.

We will need more these kind of knocks in the WC from him.

What an unlucky guy ,always gives his all and genuinely want his team to win but is surrounded by few mediocre selfish players who just care about their own avg and consider themselves as no 1 and automatic selections despite winning 0 matches for Pakistan.

This guy need players like Sharjeel ,Saud,Shahzaib Hasan around him who play in a similar manner to him or even a selfless players like Azhar or Abid who are good enough to be his partners but hes made to play with selfish nephews and sons . what a pity

This, hearing these guys always rambling on about their average and what not makes me sick. Look at a guy like Fakhar who never once says a thing about his personal achievements and he stays humble and grounded even after playing a masterclass like he did today. Need to get rid of these selfish players who only play for their own numbers.

Exactly . Huge respect for FZ.. Imagine what nephew would have said had he scored a ton under similar circumstances or even Babar or Haris.....

We need more players/characters like FZ in and around the team....

I've never heard Haris gloat about his average, even today it seemed like he was genuinely trying just couldn't connect. I don't like how Babar is always talking about his average and ranking in interviews though. It sends the message that you don't really care about the team and your personal records are more important. You never see Kohli or ABD talking about their records or stats. However, I am still a fan of Babar as I believe he is unbelievably talented, he just needs to start playing with more freedom like he did when he started his career. Even today without hitting many boundaries he was still batting at run a ball. Imam on the other hand is beyond repair. Guy's bashed a couple minnows and his career strike rate is below 80, yet talks and conveys himself in the media like he is the second coming of Bradman. That interview where he's gloating about his average, shows how arrogant he is.

Brilliant innings, should never underestimate a player like him.

Fakhar, Babar and Haris are our 3 best batsmen and we hugely depend on them for WC.

"utilizing our range hitting" it was only you who was hitting. Imam was playing as if the target was 174.

Imam isn't even worth talking about , As for Babar I dont blame him 100 % He's only partially responsible for all the deficiency in his batting and his attitude issue you mentioned. Our Fans, media and former players are responsible for him behaving in a way he does. He's been glorified and overhyped so much that now he thinks he's by far a best batsman in the country and there is no one near him which is obviously not true and he only started talking about his avg in a pompous way after fans and former players like Ramiz showed him that road as they are the ones who used to repeatedly overhype him using his avg and his few meaningless 100s , all that got to his head now and naive player like him behave in that way . I have issues with blind babar's fans more than I have issues with babar to be honest

Good effort by Fakhar. He needs to improve his off side game. He was too much one dimensional at one point today after he crossed 80.

It was mind Boggling to see Imam play today, Pak needs to try Abid with Fakhar or even try Sarfaraz with Fakhar.
Imam is a selfish player, occupies crease and for most of time, plays one aggressive shot and 5 dot balls afterwards. He is that annoying kid you played with in your childhood that will always take a single on the last ball, just to keep strike, but won’t do anything.
On a flat pitch like today, he should have showed intent, Fakhar took some risk earlier and it paid off for him, but imagine if Fakhar got out early and Imam goes on to score 100 with strike rate around 85. He would nickname himself Super ul Haq.
He needs to go.
They also need to decide between Fahim and Imad, can’t have both in line up at the same time.

Only 2 of Imad faheem and shadab will play

Awesome innings by FZ....for this non-pak neutral, he always comes across as a humble dignified guy...some of those shots were simply stunning...if its his day - pak will have a serious chance against any opposition no matter what the attack....hope to see his good form continue..cheers

Seems his good form out of the window in next game!

I say again and again, he needs better ,selfless players around him to become more consistent and deadlier for Pakistan. This formula of inserting him between two selfish/slow batters hurt him and Pakistan too often.
One Batter can't take the pressure of others all the time . Having said that, his off side game has grown worse, thanks to inept Coaches like G.flower, which is worrying me. He must ignore Mickey and G.flower and play in his Raw style

He is just hype, nothing special about him. He has done hardly anything as of late. And he escapes the criticism all the time when he should be told to step up and play like an opener and not a tailender

Hit or miss player. Very irritating. If he scores against India everyone say we told you he is a must. Frustrating to have a player like him in the side. Sharjeel is our hope after the WC.

Sort of like Afridi, 1-dimensional, lacks proper batting technique to be an asset in the long run.He may score in oneoffs but don;t expect him to be consistent

Always will be a fluke player. All the 8 planets have to align for him to score runs.

He is a lamb waiting to get slaughtered once teams figure his weak-zones. It will be a monumental challenge for him to make an impact against India because they have done their homework on him.

His honeymoon will be over once Sharjeel is back in 2020.

Till he manages to keep his average around 50 he is safe. Which means he is okay for our standards.

I am getting a bit tired of him, he can't be relied on big games anymore.

Nazar hi ahraha tha sara confidence. Unless he does something worthwhile in the next 5 matches these might be the last of his career. Would be poetic in the sense debuted in an ICC tournament in England and ended in an ICC tournament in England.

Funnily enough, he'd probably do well if he got the chance to bat against our attack. We tend to bowl erratically with the new ball so wouldn't be able to bowl consistently to a plan to target those weak zones.

Sharjeel will not come back. I don't see it happening.

I think Babar will eventually open alongside Imam and someone like Saud Shakeel, Amin, Talat etc. will come into the side.

Perhaps, since we have absolutely no ability to follow plans and study the opposition.

Then we should look forward to 70-3 after 20 overs and the margin of defeats becoming heavier.

:misbah

What is wrong with people. He is not going to be consistent, but is a must in our team!!
Why are people so flaky here
Imam Babar and haris are our best batters.
Sarfaraz is useful at number 5 as he can face spin there.
Malik and hafeez will not be consistent.
Asif will not be consistent.
NOTHING THAT HAPPENS IN YHIS TOURNAMENT WILL VHANGE ANY OF THE ABOVE.
We don't have Bradman's waiting in domestic!!

Shortage of batting resources will probably allow Sharjeel to come back after one good season.

You lot are a joke. Jumping on his back so quickly. He’s looked in fine touch in all the games so far and today was unlucky really.

Fakhar is a hard working player with a good mentality . I will never forget what he did in the CT. But if we want to be at the top of the rankings he can't be in our team. Teams know where to bowl to him and he cant change his game at this age.

After the WC, unless he has a dramatic turnaround it's time to move on. I say that with a very heavy heart as well.

He literally gave catching practice to third man. It wasn't even a top edge, he slashed a short wide ball perfectly down his throat. :91:

If he can win us a game against of the bigger matchups remaining, he'll be worth it. I think he's due a big score!

As I have said before, Fakhar is a mediocre player who has massive issues when playing with balls outside his off-stump. He has a jelly spine and cannot handle an iota of pressure. A mental midget.

That was really poor cricket from Fakhar.

You have just lost a key batsman, Babar Azam and the innings needed a bit of stability. Instead he plays a lousy and nothing shot.

To be host Fakhar was absolutely aweful against the spinners and was not picking them at all, he had to hack his way to break the shackles, playing across the line was going to cost him eventually

Disaster for Fakhar this World Cup....Pakistan have no other opener as a backup now

If you don't have any batting technique, it doesn't matter how high or low your confidence is.
