Selfish batting of Babar Azam will not let him fulfill his potential

Across format calculation of six per ball ratio is an useless exercise. In T20 six hitting is essential though

Root played only 32 T20s before being binned permanently

For what its worth calcuating T20 six rates

Steve Smith 33.53 balls per six
Kane williamson 35.51 balls per six
Root 44.18 balls per six
Babar 48.54 balls per six
How is it a useless exercise? You don't play just t20is, right? And What would you say about Babar having the best average and SR amongst these players?

That is because in Tests Umesh Yadav, Wagner are likely to have more sixes than proper batsmen. As a matter of fact Wagner has 35 sixes in Tests. Babar 23 in Tests. Umesh Yadav has a six every 35 balls in Tests. Babar every 303 balls. Because your focus is on occupying crease for long period. Not hitting sixes. So that is a pointless filter. In T20 , sixes are an indicator.

So you would rather play Umesh Yadav and Neil Wagner in your t20 superover based on these stats? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Babar has another chance in a tournament this year we can only really look at tournaments and away test series to see if he’s a big match player currently he has failed to deliver.

wow what a connection. I was talking about tests. Not T20s. In T20s i would rather have Carlos brathwhite over Babar Azam. comprende? Simple logic.

Babar looked like a different player in this PSL. He expanded his range of shots and played sweep shots against spinners, which he just forgot to play in recent times. Hopefully, he can carry his form to the next series as well as the T20 World Cup.

We have seen a completely different Babar Azam in the PSL... his strike rate was almost above 140. But now if someone thinks he will start playing like Gayle, it would be foolishness.

It is very rare someone significantly becomes a hitter all of a sudden. Murali Vijay in the IPL suddenly became a monsterous six hitter out of nowhere. Most recent noticeable transformation is from Gill who had hit 11 sixes in 2022 edition ended up hitting 33 sixes in 2023 edition. Strike rate went from 132 to 157. In that year alone across the formats he hit 58 sixes.

The biggest shocker to me was Rahane in last year's IPL. I believe he had a great tournament and I watched the Final where he came out all guns blazing.

I used to match Rahane as similar style player to Azhar Ali

He’s never going to be a big power hitter, it’s not really his game. To be honest, Pakistan has not produced many power hitters in general who are consistent.

But if you look at his stats since he joined PZ, as well as his stats in international T20 since the last couple of years (although sample size is small) his SR has gone up.

In 2023 and 2024 he had SR’s of 146 and 142 in T20 which is significantly higher than his career strike rate.

Babar was not selfish at all at least in this PSL. His strike rate has improved, range of shots has improved as well. and has scored runs. He just needs to play like this in the internationals as well.

Babar Azam leading the chart with the highest strike rate in death overs among current Pakistan T20 batters.

I wouldn't say it's selfish.I would say it's a problem with the strike rate and a lack of talent in the art of finishing the game.

I don't mind babar as a batsmen, mickey Arthur was right in 2016 when he stated thay babar was born to bat at no 3 in all formats.

His selfishness to open in t20 for personal milestones and his captaincy is what made me hate him.

If things had been different he and haris sohail could have been our long term no 3 and no 4 and would be the perfect middle order bats for us in all formats.

But alas haris's injury and babar's captaincy ruined everything.

Literally went from being one of my favourite players to one of my most hated.

Babar is not a t20 player, Never was and never will be.

Even in his under 19 days back you could tell he was mostly an accumulative batter.

What pains me the most is that babar azam could have been the 2015 Williamson or 2019 Joe root for his team in odi and test. But he didn't reach that stage.

And what's worse his fans will rush to defend him even though just like Root, Smith and Williamson who fizzled out, Babar fizzled out in 2022. It was clear in 2022 that he was a Done and dusted case in t20 and should only be an odi and test batter.

But nahi, Zindi bachei.

What’s his potential in T20? Can he become Jos Butler level? Is he holding himself back?

I believe the opposite. Selfish batting actually makes him maximize his potential because that's one thing he is good at.

This can still be beneficial if the team has others who can play their strokes around an accumulator, example Dravid. But sadly Pakistan lacks that kind of players around Babar.

Good point

But he can be useful at number 3 in any proper team

He’s the worst thing to happen to Pakistan his snail paced batting has killed the culture of playing with flair and charisma. The sooner he’s booted the better it is for Pakistan

Parthiv Patel has slammed Babar Azam and called Pakistan a weak team:

"They don't have players. They don't have T20 kind of players, the way cricket is going right now. We are talking about a strike rate of 150, 160, and they are still in the 120s. They are far behind any other international side. The captain wanted to open, so he had to come down. When your captain himself is a selfish player, then there is no chance."

Once they retire we should look at them as fans or analysts lol If we look at them as cricketers these guys cannot say anything.
But they still need to articulate better and not sound like a road side chump.

Babar is a lot like Kohli, he doesn't fit into the modern t20 game.
Kohli is the only one with Two Mos in T20 wc.. he doesn’t fit it now but before he did and excelled at it.

ofcourse he did before and at his peak he was unquestionably the best in the format. Not anymore.

Kohli is still the greatest T20 batsman arguably for his mid 2010 exploits. Nowadays he hardly plays this format. He just palys IPL and ICC events. HE tried something different. Didn't come off. He is still way better than Babar.
