What's new

Shadab Khan should be sacked as captain of Islamabad United & removed as vice-captain of Pakistan

What was he thinking bowling first on a pitch and venue that favours teams batting first? He should be sacked for that decision alone.

that was a correct decision, cause Islamabad got 100 in 11 overs. Issue was the batting line up they changed

Good decision to bowl first. Bad decision to change batting line up. SHould had sent munro on his number and sent Azam later and moved himself up.
Once Azam khan got out we had no one at back up. Relying on Munro to save us.
Faheem un lucky.

poor captaincy by SHadab at the end, and got Islamabad out of the tournament.

He wasted the selection of junion player on a player that he didn't even bowl or bat. Basically wasting a whole number and Islamabad playing with 10 men.

United's management group needs to bring Misbah back as coach and time to move on from Shadab. Ever since Misbah left, this franchise hasn't won a psl ever again

They could had played Abrar here instead of Hasan Ali aswell. Shadab doesnt let spinners play

Disappointed with this...that batting order change was brainless..Azam Khan isn't the genius they think he is..

Azam Khan is the reason they won the games. The last three games they lost was because in the two games Azam wasnt there and today Azam got out early.

Their batting was very fragile. This team needs to fix itself, every psl its the same story. Start with a bang, and end up trying to fail to reach the finish line.

Its like the Rabbit and the tortious race, and Islamabad is always the rabbit

ISLU were 128/1 after 14 overs. They are the most successful chasing side in the tournament and they were coasting it. Shadab is the last person to blame

Shadab has led the franchise well for the most part. The team has been playing an exciting brand of cricket and they are a fan favourite team.

Munro lost them this game, the guy wasted 8 deliveries. Also Hales should have finished it off given how well set he was.

Yeah I'm getting frustrated with this..like we lose steam near the end..I think we need a revamp next year..

They need Misbah back as a coach.

Look, thats good they are using stats, but there are other factors aswell like form of players etc. The team really becomes clueless and not able to take decisions properly.

Even next year i know this team will end up wasting the junion player spot on some player who isn't good enough or is a spinner who shadab wont bother to bowl. Shadab would play his friend and not play a spinner.

This team had the opportunity to steal Rashid Khan, but they ended up taking Hasan Ali

Sometimes when you try to be too clever it can backfire.

Over-complicating things doesn't always work.

When Misbah coached the Franchise last, the team didn't even qualify for the playoffs.

The team won 2 psls under Misbah. Infact those are the only 2 psls Islamabad ever won.

Shadab should be held accountable from captaincy for favouring his friends Hasan Ali and M Wasim, and not selecting Abrar.

Although he's a decent captain generally.

He also needs to improve his bowling which has been very inconsistent

Some of the selections throughout the tournament are questionable.

Maqsood only got picked at the end.
Asif Ali played most of the matches.

Done well to get knocked out only in Play offs, only brilliant bowling by Jamal and Irshad stopped them going forward.

Hahaha good joke.

Hahaha good joke.

Misbah is the only captain uptil now that has won 2 psls.

He knew the art of winning t20 games with Faisalabad and Islamabad. I can have a discussion on this but i know no one would be willing to discuss in a mature fashion

Asif Ali played most of the matches.
his issues are three.

One is that he for some reason trusts foreign players too much and not select good locals. These guys allowed Iftikhar to walk away and retained Asif Ali

Second, he is not playing any other spinner. I believe Shadab does this on purpose to protect himself.

Third, this team selects friends first. They allowed Rashid Khan to walk to Lahore. Islamabad had the first pick in the draft that had rashid khan and Hasan ali.

Look at the youth player pick, they pick a player who doesnt even bowl or bat and just takes up a whole spot

Bro the problem is there is a double standard. You blame Imad Wasim for how Karachi Kings fared in PSL 8, even though he's won a PSL in the past, but when it comes to Misbah all of a sudden you only give him credit for winning it as captain and overlook his failings as coach.

You simply can't have it both ways.

Having said that it would be nice to open a thread and see what others think.

imad won because the psl was broken off and they played a mini tournamnet at the end. That wasn't a proper tournament and KK got lucky in that

I think Islamabad need to focus on their bowling in the next PSL.

Their batting is boom or bust but their bowling was amongst the weakest in the tournament.

Misbah and Shadab are both from the same region in Pakistan. I don’t know why you like one but hate the other.

Although I can't stand Shadab, but when you're 128/1 after 14 overs, the decision at the toss becomes irrelevant when you are cruising after 14 overs. Shadab in the end, showed with bat in hand that there was nothing to suggest that runs could not have been scored.

Islamabad, unfortunately, has developed this habit of choking. They definitely need a captain who can get rid of the roti gang, who are all bits and pieces players. I wouldn't mind seeing Azam Khan as captain. It would be a bold decision but why not. I saw a lot of maturity in his batting this PSL and more than that in his interviews.

The 3 emerging picks they picked are good enough however 1 was injured.

Do you think Misbah would play this kind of brand if he was coach/manager.

Shadab should be blamed for changing the batting line up but he shouldn't be blamed for putting the opposition in to bat.

i dont care about their region. I am Pakistani.

Also, I dont hate Shadab. I am actually a fan of Shadab. But I critisize Shadab where ever he is wrong.

hassan nawaz wasn't good. They kept Zeeshan Zameer even though he wasnt fit. THey never really allowed Mubasir to bowl

People seriously suggesting Usman Qadir as a specialist spinner ahead of Shadab? He is nowhere near good enough. Shadab balances up the team perfectly.

bro he has conned no one. Even he himself says that there were many players that were better than him that should had played and that he got lucky that he ended up playing for Pakistan.

His bowling line and length was an issue which is not fixed. His only issue is that he breaks down quite quickly, which happens in many sports. There are players that develop issues related to fitness even though they are fit but their body breaks down

If he thinks he got lucky he should have gone the extra mile to improve himself but he didn’t. Shadab’s career was made because of three events: PSL 2017, T20I series in West Indies and the Champions Trophy.

PSL 2017 was his debut tournament and it is the only PSL edition where he actually bowled well.

Pakistan were still searching for an Afridi replacement and there was a big void as far as Limited Overs spinners are concerned. It was the perfect time for Shadab to perform and get noticed by the selectors.

That PSL was followed by the West Indies series which was played on very dry wickets. Their batsmen just couldn’t pick his googly.

He ended up as part of the Champions Trophy winning squad even though his individual contributions were not very impactful and he got smashed in the final by Pandya.

That Yuvraj review in the final went viral and made him very popular among the fans. It was basically his ticket to stardom.

Since 2017, he has been given the golden boy treatment by PCB. There is never any pressure on him to retain his place in the team and there is no doubt that he became complacent.

Mubasir Khan bowled just 8 overs in the whole tournament

Sohaib Maqsood played just 2 matches

Asif Ali played 9 matches

Shadab himself was batting at number 4 most of the time

Munro at 5 in the key match against PZ

Sending the in-form Faheem in below the likes of Asif Ali

Several questions for Shadab and co to answer.

The problem with ISLU is bowling. They concede 180+ too often. Just too many all rounders in that attack. They need a premier respected bowler to lead and a few more specialists.

I agree with what you have said and he does get alot of leverage. I think he will end up as a t20 specialist. He isn't able to spin the ball that much.

Doe has star power though

Agree but he will be extremely impactful and useful on indian pitches in WC this year. Plus he can bat so he is an automatic selection ahead of imad and nawaz in 50 over cricket.

Shadab ain’t wrong. He just doesn’t have Sharjeel Khan in his team. He needs a good opener like him.

Hahah sharjeel khan. Shaheen has more runs then him this psl with higher average and sr while he a tail ender. Try again.

I will be surprised if Islamabad United continues with Shadab Khan as captain. Shadab has captained Islamabad United for 43 matches in which he managed to win only 23 and failed to win any trophy.
