Strongly disagree. He is massively overrated - beyond the fielding and glamor, he has little substance. However, he deserves to be in the team ahead of Faheem in these conditions.
Strongly disagree.
He’s shown that he has the ability to win the game with both bat and ball in various formats.
Last year, he did it twice against SL in ODI’s and T20’s.
He scored three crucial 50’s in our tour of England and Ireland that helped us win 2 out of 3 matches.
He has been solid in pretty much every T20 game he’s played since his debut.
I really do not understand why people claim him to be overrated since he’s barely a year and a half into his career and bats at #7/8.
He’s one of the best fielders we have and is genuinely 19 with at least 5-7 years of potential investment.
I see little more than a flashy minnow-basher who is still riding on the momentum of PSL 2 and the West Indies debut series. He was rubbish in PSL 3 and has made marginal impact with the ball against good teams.
Yes he scored some runs in England and New Zealand, but his batting has not convinced me. I feel very uncomfortable watching him arrive to the crease when Pakistan are only 5 down in ODIs. That is the longest tail in the world.
He is being played too much and has been given too much stardom too early. Needs to be brought back to earth and given a reality check like his ardent fans.
Since you brought up PSL 3, I remember him being crucified for not taking wickets.
He responded with three wickets for 25 and knocked the wind out of PZ in the Final.
His batting is developing and for a 19-year-old to score crucial runs on their first tour to ENG and NZ is a good sign of mental application.
His novelty was the quick and skiddy googly which is why he was big when he came on the scene. (His first ball googly bowled a well-set Sharma the other day). From now on, he has to develop through FC to become a genuine leggie.
Maybe he needs to put down the Snapchat but the fuss about his latest facial hair/haircut is bizarre. He is easily the most exciting young all-rounder in the cricket world today.
You make an appreciable case for him but as I said, I am not convinced with him. Nor with Faheem for that matter, but Shadab is the more convincing player of the two. I have a big problem with him batting at number five and I do not think he is a front-line spinner. He needs to have a reduced role in the team.
Shadab bats at seven in Tests and eight in ODI/T20’s.
I certainly think having an off-spinner will help him because Hafeez is out, Malik can’t do much, Nawaz is hit or miss, Yasir is prone, and FZ/Haris are not spinners.
He was at the crease against India when were 5 down. Even 6 is too high for him.

It was five wickets down and there were two new batsmen, Asif Ali and the Number Seven, Shadab Khan.
He doesn’t have the strength yet to be a slogging lower-order batsman but he has the patience, technique, and compactness to bat down the order.

Look I do not want to write him off. Yes he is young and he might improve with time (although that usually does not apply to Pakistani players), but my problem is that he has been given a very prominent and crucial role in the team even though he is not ready to do justice to that role.
In terms of his position in the batting order, he is clearly batting higher than his capabilities right now. He is also playing the role of the main spinner and is trusted with 10 overs every game, but his bowling is not that good at this point.
Yes it is great to see him dive like a dolphin in the field, but in terms of his core skills, he is clearly overrated. He is a utility player who should at best be a second spinner and not bat above 8.
Yes so he does not bat at 8 in ODIs, he bats at 7. Not sure about the technique and compactness part.
His dismissal against Jadhav was very ugly - he looked more of a tail-ender with the way he got nowhere to the pitch of the ball and lost his balance with his head falling. A batsman with good technique will rarely (if ever) get out on this fashion.
