Shaheen Afridi – Pakistan’s new pace all-rounder? 🔥
With his batting improving, is he quietly becoming the team’s go-to option down the order, or is it too early to rely on his runs?

in terms of runs Shaheen afrid is the best no.9 batsman in T20 history. Mostly thanks to last 2 innings. lol It was below a lot of guys like maskadaza, taskin.

31 matches 18 innings 176 runs 17.60 average 139.68 strike rate in that spot

Far from an all-rounder but he can be a good pinch-hitter. He always batted reasonably for his own team, the Lahore Qalandars.

He showed lack of interest in batting for the Pak team. He is only applying himself in batting for the Pak team because his bowling performance has declined significantly. Wants to maintain his spot in the team.

If there is one good thing that came out of dropping of Babar and Rizwan, it is that everyone knows that they can be kicked out of the team if they don't perform.

End of a great spell by Shaheen. 3/17 in a must-win match. VERY WELL DONE

Very happy, he went off track for 3 years. Hopefully he can win us 2026 and 2027 WCs.

Shaheen is not an all-rounder. He is a bowler who can bat quite well, like Starc.

He is a world class bowler and even when he is not at his best, he is capable of producing big moments. I expect a lot from him in the final vs India.

Shaheen is the best Pakistani bowler by a mile, and he should also be the white ball captain based on his PSL exploits.

I am not an advocate of having different captains for ODIs and T20Is and Agha is a joke of a player in T20Is.

I do agree with that. Hasn’t he won 3 PSL tournaments!

He is the only PSL captain with 3 trophies. While he can’t be the only factor, it will also be disingenuous to argue that he had no role in it.

He deserves a chance at the international level to showcase if he can replicate some of that success. He might not, but he has earned the right to get a proper run otherwise, you are devaluing your own premier competition.

Agha should not be retained even if Pakistan win the final because he cannot justify his own selection. His batting has been beyond awful, and there is nothing in his game that suggests that he will turn it around either.

He has done a good job with the bat in Tests and ODIs and he should stick to those formats.

He is now an all-rounder in my opinion.

2025 Asia Cup is the tournament where Shaheen's all-rounder credential has been cemented.

Yes, Agha is truly a joke, he should be kicked out and anyone with permanent place in T20 cricket should be made captain and Shaheen probably is the only one who qualifies . He has become mature enough now. Hope they will not replace Agha with another joke, Shadab.

I do think Shaheen is a very strong option for captaincy.

Agha’s own batting has been disappointing, and he’s not an automatic pick in T20Is. If we need an anchor, why not Rizbabar? He’s not a natural stroke player and isn’t currently anchoring.

His captaincy isn’t bad—he’s intelligent in his media interactions and genuinely seems to want Pakistan cricket to modernize. Unfortunately, Pakistan lacks batting depth, which means there will be pressure and inevitable changes. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t even try because “hum sai nai hoga” but worth noting.

That said, he has earned my respect for sometimes sacrificing his own opportunities to let younger players bat higher up the order and taking risks despite an incredibly selfish and insecure Pakistani work environment.

Not gonna call him an allrounder but so far in Asia Cup, he has done a much better job than our so-called modern day giants... @Mamoon didn't he...

shaheen coming at 9 means you actually bat deep. But the issue is that the top order and middle order is good for nothing. If shaheen keeps on playing like this then he can be consider in the same bracket as muhammad nawaz.

Although he is not an allrounder, he has the aura element that the likes of Flintoff carried. When Shaheen does well, Pakistan team does well. When he is in form, the body language of the team changes.
Bowling should be his main focus atm. Whatever he scores with bat, it's good.

Shaheen has the hunger to bat like Naseem has.. This is a good mentality to have

Let it not be forgotten that the clown duo of Agha and Hesson tried to drop Shaheen and replace him with Hassan Ali before they took a U-turn. What a slap on their faces.

Taking a U-turn for the benefit of the team is better than continuing down a flawed path.

Shaheen seems to have flourished lately. One advantage of having all of these rellu katta all rounders in the team is that there is plenty of bowling options, allowing Shaheen to bowl 3 overs upfront where he is the most threatening.

I hope they don't try to turn him into an allrounder.

We need him as a bowler to get wickets up front.

Also, I feel he tries to over-do versus India. Should just read the wicket and bowl accordingly - he will get wickets.

His first over versus Bangladesh was such smart and skillful bowling - if you watched the match, the way he used back length and bounce was superb.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (up 12 places to 13th) in the latest ICC T20I bowling rankings.

Considering his ceiling as bowler alone (and he seems to get his rythm back since 2022 or so), even if he ends up in the Wasim Akram/Ashwin areas (just a notch below proper all rounder), it’ll be good enough for us.
