"Shaheen Shah Afridi can be very useful for us at World Cup and in South Africa" : Sarfaraz Ahmed

Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking to the press:

"When we talk of chasing totals, we have such good balance in our team that we have player like Hasan Ali batting at number 10"

"We were very confident that even if the target is 150-160, we can achieve that"

"We started well but in the middle we played out too many dot balls which made the match more interesting"

"But in the end, it was experience which was useful and the way Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik finished the game for us was very good"

"Our team is moving towards better times day by day"

"As for the players, they adjust to the game situation themselves and know which fielding positions to go to"

"So players like Shadab, Fakhar and Hasan all know where to field when we are in the final overs"

"They also know where to bowl based on whatever plans we discuss in our team meetings"

"Mohammad Hafeez's role in the team is really good at the moment"

"He had made a double hundred in domestic and we wanted to make use of his form"

"Mashallah, the way Mohammad Hafeez is availing this chance and performing for Pakistan augurs well for us as team"

"Babar Azam is a talented player who is improving day by day; He will only get better in the future"

"One reason for sending Asif Ali up the order is that its not easy to bat at later times as you dont have time to hit out immediately"

"He is the kind of a batsman who when set by going in early overs can play the big shots later"

"NZ came out with a plan to attack Imad straight away so I took him out of the attack, we will come up with new plans in the next match to counter them"

"50 runs in 5 overs was a tough ask but Mohammad Hafeez hit a couple of sixes and that swung the match our way"

"Expectations are increasing, we have ODIs and Tests coming up so we will try to carry the momentum over and play well in the other formats too"

"We will have to perform in ODIs after Asia Cup where we made a lot of mistakes"

"We need to be more patient in ODIs, if one opener falls then 2-3 more get out, in 50 over games it's difficult to come back. 240-250 is not enough most times"

"Babar has played most of his cricket as an opener so that's in our mind but we are looking at the team combination with Fakhar and Imam and also Hafeez bhai coming into the team"

"We should be making 160-170 in T20Is, we missed a few chances to do that. We want to have the likes of Faheem and Imad prepared to hit out in the death overs, if we have a set batsman and they play alongside him then we can make big runs at the death. Today we had wickets in hand and we made 50 in the last 5 overs"

"Amir was struggling with his rhythm and his action wasn't completing in the follow through, the ball wasn't swinging. There is no problem with his attitude. I am sure he will play a part in future series, we have a lot of good competition with the pacers"

"We are trying to keep Shaheen Shah Afridi limited to T20Is and ODIs for now, we don't want to play him in too many matches. He is a bowler who can be very useful for us at the World Cup and in South Africa so we'll try to not play him in too many matches here. He has been playing lots of cricket since the Asia Cup so we'll try to lessen his workload, and also Hasan's"

"We have a lot of bowlers competing in ODIs, as a captain I think Mohammad Abbas will be crucial in the 3 Tests coming up against NZ and SA. I would prefer him to focus on Test cricket for now but of course if we require him in the World Cup then he can definitely be a part of the ODI team"

Would love to see Shaheen Afridi in the test matches against South Africa

Shaheen will light up the WC in England. I'm very eager to see him in SA first.

He's tall, in form and bowling fast. Got to give him a go, considering who else is in the attack is all a bit medium pace and out of form apart from Abbas.

Him and Abbas have the potential to get through a SA batting lineup if they get any kind of support at all.

Having a peak Irfan like pace and height is beneficial for South Africa, Australia and NZ. While Shaheens pace and height will also be beneficial but he might be more manageable

Glad to know that Sarfaraz realizes what a gem Shaheen can become for Pak.

Shaheen should be rested for the next match and Waqas Maqsood or Shinwari should be brought in.

Yes, he mentioned South Africa!!! I hope this means he is in test contention

Saifi is a positive person unlike previous captains Afridi and Misbah who would blame the upcoming talent when losing the game or series . Sarfraz took it on face in Asia cup and has continued backing these players and speaks highly of them as if they are already legends . Attitude change has really done wonders for team

When did Misbah blame upcoming talent for losing game/series?

Would like to see Waqas or both of them actually.

When I saw Waqas bowl in domestic, he was getting some good swing and bounce. Looks like a tall fast medium bowler. Should be given a chance in 3rd t20i to see what he offers rather than Usman who is a known quantity.

Abbas should be brought in ODIs now so he can learn. He will be our top bowler in SA and WC in ENG but he needs some experience.

Both are likely to play. Shaheen and Hasan to be rested by the sounds of it.

If you want Shaheen to be useful in South Africa and the WC then keep him away from meaningless T20s
