Some pretty good bowling but mediocre batting by some BD batsmen. Most of the main batsmen got out venturing outside off stump.

Shaheen is on the other hand looks like a hardworking, determined and focused lad just like Babar Azam is in batting. If he keeps his head straight he can achieve great things.

Probably 17 runs short of decent score after being down 3-2, ball was moving in the morning with a green pitch.

Looks like well negotiated by Mithun to cross over 200 runs.

Shaheen will most likely Torment Bangladesh throughout his career the way Shahid Afridi always did.

If Abid Ali scores a century in this test he will equal Azharuddin’s record of 3 centuries in first 3 tests.

Pretty ordinary performance. Shaheen was good as usual but rest of the bowlers were flat.

Match is 70-30 in Pakistan’s favor. Any sort of lead would be enough to win the match.

Pakistan is overrated it’s bowling attack which is currently one of worst in the world excluding Shaheen.

This tactic of bowling first in Test cricket will be blow up in our faces against some good lineups.

The moment a team crosses 350 while batting first, we are bound to lose.

Yasir is the biggest worry in the attack for me. He neither keeps it tight in pressure situations nor he picks up wickets in crunch moments.

This should be his last series. He will be of no use in England and New Zealand this year, and the next home series (vs SA) is exactly a year away.

It is time to introduce a new specialist spinner in Test cricket and not a fake all-rounder like Shadab or a leg-spinner because of the “leg-spinners are match-winners” stereotype.

It is not mandatory to play a leg-spinner.

Get an off-spinner or a SLA, but he should be in the team purely for his bowling only.

Yasir plays as a specialist batsman now :)

We will see how good or bad the pitch is once both teams bat once on it, pakistan cant afford to be complacent, need to look to bat solidly and big like we did vs SL. Batsmen once they get in need to cash in and score big.

Bowling today was a mix bag, Yasir shah needs to go. Yes this is a day 1 so i didnt expect much from him but its clear hes past his best.

Pakistan need to start finding new quality test spinners as in longterm persisting with yasir is going to harm the test side.

meh. we should have bowled the banglas for under 150, that is their true worth as a test team.
barring afridi, not impressed.

naseem shah too inconsistent and better off in the limited over formats and needs a first class season. Has potential but not ready for international cricket.

Abbas, too slow. good for upcoming tours to england and new zealand though.

And Yasir Shah's time is up as a international cricketer. cannot attack nor contain against a minnow batting lineup at home.

I'd rather see Rauf in our test team or at least in our ODI team.

and Haris Sohail still in the test team?

I think, from 3/2, I’ll take 233 - they scored like 227/5 & 6/5 in two ends combined but two dismissals exposed what Test cricket is for us - 1. Mominul- that was Shaheen’s last ball of 11th over in morning and he was well set. 2. Liton - horrible shot selection. Combined two dismissals, it cost something between 50 to 150 in the total. I am sure bowlers will try their best, but they are seriously let down by batsmen here.

Should look to score 500+ and bat only once. Hope Bobby and Harry get tons.

Minnows will remain minnows.

Not really If you look at it the other way, BD will be dissappointed with only 233 after 90 something for 3 down. The bowling was no where near world class and some friendly pies were being served by Yasir Shah but BD batsmen failed to capitalize on it. Most of them got out trying to play rash shots.

Mahmudullah chased a needless wide one from Shaheen.

Najmul Shanto did the same against Abbas.

Liton thrown it away after looking so good.

And what was Taijul trying to do I have got no clue.

The avg 1st innings score on this ground is 300+ and BD should be very dissappinted finishing way below it. Azhar Ali basically gave a gift by allowing BD to bat first but they failed to capitalize.

Unless a miracle...Pak will win this test match easily.

See?, all is well with coaching, system, talent etc etc. Pak should wrap this up by Sunday.

Quicks give Pakistan the upper hand

Bangladesh lost their openers in the first two overs of the day and never fully recovered as their batsmen failed to build on starts, bundled out for 233 in their first innings of the first Test in Rawalpindi.

Shaheen Shah Afridi had debutant Saif Hassan edging behind off the third ball for a duck, while opener Tamim Iqbal was given out lbw to Mohammad Abbas on review the next over. Despite the efforts of the middle order, led by Mohammad Mithun's fighting half-century, the visitors were dismissed in the final few overs of Friday, 7 February.

Afridi finished with 4/53, while Abbas and left-arm spinner Haris Sohail picked up two wickets each, validating their captain's decision to bowl first. Poor light meant Pakistan didn't come out to bat.

Three half-century partnerships, between Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto for the third wicket, Mithun and Liton Das for the sixth wicket, and Mithun and Taijul Islam for the seventh offered Bangladesh hope of revival. They chose to attack the wayward Yasir Shah and Naseem Shah but having done the hard work of getting their eye in, they couldn't capitalise.

Afridi, taken for two fours in an over, got his own back in the next when he tempted Mominul into a drive, only for him to edge behind. Shanto paid for a lapse in concentration right after lunch, before Asad Shafiq dived to his right to take an excellent catch of Mahmudullah at slip.

Liton and Mithun were playing positive cricket, when Haris' left-arm spin turned the game Pakistan's way again, trapping Liton in front against the run of play. He struck another telling blow, tempting Taijul into an expansive shot.

Even as Mithun attempted to add quick runs on his way to 63, which included seven fours and a six, Afridi cleaned up the tail in the final hour of the day. The innings had lasted 82.5 overs.

Conditions familar. Bowling is not really threatening. They are all young bowlers trying to make a mark. Yasir gone off the boil. When will they score 350 without the 2007 world cup batch guys. They even had one from that batch. Tamim scored 300 plus in a local match. You would think he would carry that form and make an 150.

Looking forward to seeing our guys have a bat. I wouldn't rule the Tigers out just yet

Epic phainta as expected. Really happy to see the eagle SSA shine. Top lad.

Needs to go. Time is up for him. We need to start giving the likes of Gohar a chance FGS.

Thanks to Misbah and Azhar Ali for helping Bangladesh make 233 and let them play for most of the day.

Zero performance from Bangladesh. What are their so-called elite coaches doing? What is their preparation and what kind of players are being selected that can't even defend solidly? Shaheen is a 19 year old Kid Bangladesh made him look like a mature fast bowler while making themselves look like babies.

He just bowled at full length and Bangladesh gave their wickets away while Abbas choked them for runs with his usual probing line.

If Sarfaraz and Arthur were here they would've taken out Bangladesh under 125 with Pakistan batting for the next half of the day. Yasir Shah would not have got the chance to bowl. Abbas alone with a close-in field and probing on the wickets with longer spell would've finished early.

Now I know why Faheem was picked, he would've ran through this team on this wicket by just pace and little movement.

Extremely disappointed with Bangladesh. Naseem and Yasir wayward length helped them score.

Any good spinner in your mind?

MMHS do you still think Abbas is 37 years old?

I do think he was born as 5-6 years old. It's difficult to explain if the age cheating is considered as a function of whom the bowler is playing against - couple of months back he was playing against Australia and looked like 40 years old, next time if he again plays with Ireland .... might look 25.

We will whether the score is good or not only after Pakistan have batted

And Abu Jayed is a real 26?

Sucks to see Abbas get wickets. Haris looked good. Shaheen and Naseem are beasts hope they are not overbowled in PSL.

Pak. got lucky that Mominul played a poor shot he won’t give it away in the next innings.

Abid + Azhar should fail and want to see Shan score a 100 tomorrow inshAllah.

No.

I always keep 1-2 years buffer with BD players. And 3 to 7 years with PAK players - it didn’t betray much in past.

I thought Mominul was 20 when i saw him in India lol He looked so tiny. In terms of appearance BD players look younger than their actual age.

Harry getting a ton would bite us in the long run. I don’t think he has the fitness or the desire for test cricket. Bobby should get a double at least. Azhar and Asad: doesn’t matter because either ways they are going to be in the team while Misbah is there.

I am not sure what Yasir needs to do to be out of the team: no performance, unfit. If he cannot perform against this Bangladesh side, what can he do against bigger teams? When is the famed “experience” going to help us win matches? He is not only holding up a generation of promising spinners but also destroying the next generation as the youngsters do not have a proper role model spinner to emulate.

The key was Abbas bowling so tightly from one end, applying pressure by giving nothing away.

This makes the temptation to chase the odd "sucker ball" by Afridi hard to resist. Make them chase a wide one against the taller, faster bowler who can swing the odd one or bounce.

Good bowling partnerships.
