Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq and Kumara Sangakara will be among the stars who will feature in the inaugural Afghanistan T20 League which will be held in Sharjah in October.

The youngest T20 league in the world also announced a draft system to pick players for the teams. The drafting will take place in the 1st week of September 2018 in Dubai.

The league will have five teams, namely Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Paktia and Balkh, representing five regions of the country. The first season of the league is scheduled to take place from 5th to 23rd October 2018. All the matches will be staged in Sharjah.

While making the announcement Mr Shafiqullah Stanikzai, CEO, Afghanistan Cricket Board said, “The Afghanistan Cricket Board has achieved in its short stint not only the Full Member status of ICC (International Cricket Council) as well as Test status. We are delighted that today we witness the launch of our own league which will provide global fans and audience an opportunity to watch competitive cricket both at the stadium and on their TV screens worldwide.

“APL is envisioned to become a leading platform for local and international players to showcase their talent, provide a landscape for the development of coaching and playing infrastructures, mentor emerging cricketers, engage with fans all over the world, and provide lucrative opportunities for brands and businesses to connect with the global market,” he added.

Mr Ashish Sethi, CEO Snixer Sports, investment partner for APL said, “We already have registrations from key international players who already have a reputation in the T20 format. This include Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Rashid Khan, Brendon McCullum, Misbah ul Haq, Kumar Sangakara, Thisara Perera, Imran Tahir and Tamim Iqbal. ACB has already produced great cricketing stars like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Zadran, Mohammad Nabi and with the APL T20 we look forward to creating a platform for cricketing stars to showcase their talent.”

APL would be the second T20 league by ACB besides its domestic Shpageeza Cricket League that has already seen immense popularity both in the country and beyond.

Same bunch of players banded around every tournament. Need to make a global league with a global player pool, 2 divisions and reignite everyones passion for cricket.

They should have avoided the Afghani league tbh.
Yeah it really upsets me how Afghan cricket board and government have been abusive towards Pakistan. It is time to respect ourselves.

While Afridi is trying to prove everyone wrong, as he believes that we should respect each other(NATION). But any other nation can abuse us at anytime. He don't care. I don't know why he always do these stuffs like when someone asks him about care, love or respect. He will definitely highlight India or Afghanistan there for sure.

It will be interesting to see how many Pakistani players are selected as the Afghan Cricket Board aren't on good terms with the PCB.

Pakistan should now allow any contracted player to partake. They need to add value to their players and stop letting them play in such leagues. Plus these small baby leagues are heaven for fixing.

A part of me doesn't want this league to succeed. Didn't expect Misbah to put his name out there.

Surprised by Misbah's participation tbh.

Afridi was always a must if that league wants any audience.

I know Afghans talked a lot of crap a while ago but I don't mind Pakistani players joining this league.

Politics should be kept aside from sports, if possible!

I doubt many contracted players would even be interested.Especially with the limit in number of contracted leagues they can participate in.

I'm one of the few who are against us participating in the Afghan T20 league as it will only benefit them, they do not care about us and abuse us behind closed doors especially towards Punjabis. You can blatantly see the arrogance in Afg cricket especially when one of their players said their spinners are better than India's to which they then got hammered in 2 days.

so so many t20 leagues going around now a days and a t10 league too. But good opportunity for players to earn few Bucks.

So just as I expected. Pakistani International players are also talking part. E.g Wahab Riaz.

Pakistani players picked so far:

Shahid Afridi - Paktia
Wahab Riaz - Kandahar
Mohammad Irfan - Balkh
Sohail Tanveer - Kabul
Faheem Ashraf - Paktia
Mohammad Hafeez - Nangarhar
Kamran Akmal - Balkh
Iftikhar Ahmed - Kandahar

With all these leagues around the world if you are a proper T20 specialist and let go of International Cricket you can easily make 2-3 million USD and travel the world.

Don't mind any of the other players but Faheem shouldn't play this league. Any idea how much money he'll be receiving?

The planes on the LHS is a nice touch - easy to find the foreign players in each side.

Why on earth is Faheem doing there. He's got quite a busy schedule coming for him. Rather than him playing this random T20 League, he should rest up.

Not many will play it due to two league limit and Pakistan series vs Australia and New Zealand
So you can rule Fahim Ashraf our already

Only retired cricketers to play in Afghan League: PCB

The PCB has informed in-action players with its decision, which allows only retired players to play in the APL whereas players currently playing domestic or international cricket will not be provided with a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Former captain of the Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi is the only player who will be participating in this year’s APL after the decision by the cricketing board.
