For anyone thinking hes leaving Peshawar because he wasn't captain - you're wrong. He gave up captaincy himself.

He's leaving Peshawar because of an issue with Javed Afridi. This happened last year too. After the ending of season 1 there were rumours he was leaving PZ but later he was convinced not to. Not this time around.
 
Saw this on Twitter just now.

Very disappointing. Afridi was the face of PZ and he really should've stayed on.

Wouldn't mind him in Karachi at all, but I'm pretty sure he's going to get the captaincy for the 6th franchise.

Don't think he had any issues with Sammy; the two got along very well. Really hope he had no issues with Javed, either.
 
Well before the PSL there were rumours of a rift between Javed Afridi and Shahid Afridi.

Also their political affiliation seems to be on different wavelengths.
 
Afridi should come home to lead Karachi

With Karachi Dolphins he led us to multiple finals and lost at the last hurdle.

With KK he can go all the way

I agree with this. Afridi is too powerful anyway, if we said he wanted to be made captain he'd be made captain. This is not international cricket, there is more of an emphasis on profit and publicity, and having afridi as captain helps with that, every team will see that.

I think it's either that issue, or perhaps Afridi wants to win something for Karachi.
 
Afridi is the reason Zalimi's foreign players went to the final, maybe he can get his next team's foreign players to come as well. This could be a blessing. Zalmi's set of foreign players will come to Pakistan anyways.

Just for this I hope he comes to Karachi, we don't need Afridi the player but Afridi the brand would do nicely. Especially with ARY's media team, who would start fawning over him and make him into a mythical creature elevating him to Raheel Sharif level.
 
Last year Afridi quit Zalmi too but then joined back after Awam kay pur zor israr....hoping the same this time too....Afridi love doing this for some reason.
 
He was never gonna stay due to sammy being captain, and before someone say that oh he gave up captaincy himself, it was all a gimmick. He was asked to give captaincy to sammy.

Where ever this guy goes lets hope he doesnt step foot into islamabad

Lala is a T20 legend and still the best hitter in Pakistan.
 
He is either eyeing the ownership of the new franchise or the captaincy of KK. Nonetheless, we must get a lower-order hitter for next year. Afridi was pedestrian with the ball, but he had made a lot of impact with the bat.
 
Shocked at this announcement . I think he will be at PSL 3 though.

Poor communication if the owner wasn't aware of Afridi intention to leave.
 
I can see Afridi along with a pool of investors eyeing the 6th team, it would make sense as I don't see why you would leave essentially the most popular team in the league.

Afridi is a politician so he won't risk it with a new franchise. KK have deep pockets and a savvy backroom staff who must have learned their lessons after two seasons, bringing in Afridi and dropping in dead wood like Gayle makes sense.

Actually Sarfaraz or Sami had helped us reached the finals then Afridi took over in the finals and lost it.

That's not true.

However, he was definitely going to KK in 2nd edition due to rift with Javed Afridi. ARY also started sponsoring foundation's events as well.

You are telling that after 20 years, he has learnt. By the way, I am not telling about Captaincy only - PZ was the most popular team & they were expected to win 1st PSL (I think, even in PP got the highest vote, definitely from neutrals). Then, under Afridi, they failed to make the final with 2 chances - ironically losing once to Sarfu's team & once Misbah's team (the 2 Captains that succeeded him). This year, Sammy took the team to Final & won it without Afridi playing - isn't it enough for a boy of 16 .........................

Differences were already there and appointment of Sammy as captain was part of it. Afridi never leave captaincy on his own

Due to the endless love and pressure from the Zalmi fans I have reconsidered my decision and with be back with Peshawar. Thank you all!
 
He had issues with Javed last year and I guess, it was only about time he went.

LQ could really do with a big hitter down the order and Afridi would be perfect.

He can bowl here and there, but the form he showed in this years PSL was excellent and would be a great addition to have at LQ.

That's surprising, considering Javed Afridi's involvement and interest in CPEC and how he was one of the major players dismantling IK and PTI's concerns regarding CPEC benefits tot he province. Even blamed PTI leadership for being busy in Dharna and not working towards getting more projects for K.P.K. But again, he seems to be on equally good terms with PTI too. Not that he is any closer tot hem then he is too N league.
The issue has to be something else. I think,ARY is the major sponsor of SAf foundation and he also got real close to them during the of season so could be going there.

Strange decision.Any of the teams will buy him probably but I hope he doesn't come to KK,purely for cricketing reasons.
 
He should have been playing for Karachi all along tbh

Just somehow, KK manage to fluke their way out of the 5th position.

Anyway, you can do one better than LQ next season and finish 6th. :amir3 :babar
 
Oh here we go, the drama queen has not had much attention lately so he does this...

Will probably announce his return to Test cricket next week too.

A joint announcement or an announcement from his team PZ would have been the best way and amicable way to this.

An announcement on twitter without the knowledge of his team or the team owner smells of a lack of professionalism.

For more than half the tournament, KK couldn't even buy a win and were languishing at the bottom.

No one knows, how they made it to the 3rd position.
 
wikipedia is saying He is relative of Shahid Afridi, can anybody explain this? they are cousins or just relatives ?
 
I would like to see Afridi being rotated, play for one team next year, then another, as its important to rotate the brand Afridi.

Not sure they did, KK were about the same as LQ but were able to beat LQ PSL 1. And in PSL 2, they were a bit better than LQ.

Think it's more KK underperformed. They were the strongest team on paper in both editions.

In PSL 1, LQ had qualification in their hands, whilst KK were relying on others to qualify.

This year, KK were at the bottom for almost the entire tournament and were getting beat comfortably, whilst LQ managed to reach 3rd position and were losing close games.

In the end, they were ambushed by some brilliant displays by KP and Pollard, which led to them being ousted.

Lastly, if we use the under performing card, then you can say the same about LQ because Gayle and Bravo didn't click in the 1st edition, whilst BMac and Tanvir (great in domestic T20's) were below par this year, plus Akmal didn't have a great season either.

Afridi thinks professionalism is Haraam !!
 
Javed Afridi was stealing all the limelight and sparing very little for Shahid Afridi.
 
I take it, Shahid's ego didn't take it too well knowing there's another Afridi around not too far away.
 
Our news is rubbish. They show every little move that Afridi takes. Way to glorify a single individual. :facepalm:
Even worse are those ignorant people who worship Afridi and think he is a cricket ATG.

You may have a point but leaving Zalmi isn't exactly a little move.... :13:
 
Lala should come home and lead KK.....

Malik would have no problems playing under him and either way he is the local lad. Need to rope him in and go for the title in Season 3.
