I think he wanted one which was separate from Younis and Misbah's. Probably a special one.

Attention seeking at it's highest.

Such stupidity by Afridi, which really shouldn't surprise anyone.

He is clearly unhappy that he wasn't allowed to retire on his own terms. He wanted to play a few more T20 series but the PCB said enough is enough.

Poor from both PCB and Afridi.

PCB ki koi zubaan nai hai jis pe PCB qaayem reh sakay. On the other hand SSA is Egoistic.

Whatever someone might say about Afridi he is a legend in his own right, he did bring in lots of viewership and entertained to the best of his abilities for a long time..

Seems like Afridi isn't happy with what was offered to him by the PCB as a way of a farewell match.

Would it have been an international match? that may have been one of reason why he really said no because he'd have preferred to say goodbye in international colours rather then a throwaway domestic game or friendly. Afridi obviously had the chance to do that after the T20 World Cup so he only got himself to blame.

Well the fact is he's retired.

The option would have been for him to unretire for 1 match I guess, which is a bit of a farce really.

Time to move on PCB. You have done your part by offering him a farewell match.

If he wants to play his farewell match in a ground covered with red carpet having helipad where he could land like a Bollywood hero then it is simply not gonna happen.

Thank you Shahid Afridi for your services, watching you bat along with Saeed Anwar was the ultimate joy for me in late 90's but it's time to move on now.

Why in future PCB would want to give anyone a farewell match or ceremony??? This ATG clown ruining that.

only difference is, that this is not a farewell match but a farewell function from what I understand, no where does it say he would be given a farewell international cricket match

Don't think Afridi would have settled for a farewell function. He would most likely have wanted a match.

:sa

Again proves his big hitting ability in pressure situation.

Out of the park. Dignity regained.

What exactly did he want? A 21-gun salute and an aerobatics fly-by from the Pakistan Air Force? Followed by Afridi coming to the crease on an elephant perhaps?

He wanted to wear the green shirt for one last time in front of home crowd. Reasonable request for player who has represented the nation for 500+ games and 20 years.

And he should thank god for that. There zillion of other people who never get to play 1 single game.

Its also so stupid . I mean his argument that he wants to set an example. What example?!

You play your last series. Inform people in advance and thats all. Its no rocket science.

I don't think this ever was a farewell match.

I was already seeing reports that Afridi was meant to fly to WI to join YK and Misbah for a farewell ceremony of some sort. What match would he play in?

He wanted to be special, which cannot be the case anymore since YK & Misbah have already gotten farewell series'. This would've been just another farewell.

However, if the PCB listened to his demands before the WI tour, Afridi would've gotten a chance to be in the spotlight which is what he has always wanted.

Now he will once again ask for farewell match in near future and then will decline it again, it means his only purpose is to stay in media rather than playing a farewell match.

I am a bit sick of hearing about Afridi now as if he is the greatest Cricketer of all time. Please retire and stay retired. Do something else with your life now instead of seeking excuses for another comeback. To him a farewell match means coming out of retirement for the Champions Trophy. Can't understand why so may Pakistanis are obsessed with him.

Great in his time no doubt.
Destructor in his prime. Every bowlers nightmare but enough is enough now. Who wants to watch a farewell match for another 0(1). He is retired let it be...

The Team has moved on, he has and so should we all.

Such a selfish and arrogant guy. And on top of that he is considered a superstar, hero and champion in our country!

AFRIDI PLEASE ALWAYS THANK THE ALMIGHTY THAT A PLAYER OF YOUR ABLITY WHO WOULD NOT HAVE LASTED FOR A FEW GAMES IN ANOTHER COUNTRY, GOT TO PLAY OVER 500 GAMES AND 20 YEARS.

I'm glad this farewell episode is closed, please concentrate on your foundation and no more talk on cricket or seeking attention. I had enough of you....PLEASE!

Afridi didn't really want a farewell match he wanted to end on a high I think that's the thing. That's why he continued after the T20 world cup. He wanted back as a player.

A special farewell match for him isn't really the same, it feels more like charity, brought back just to be given a farewell.

Honestly wouldn't have minded him coming back for a few matches on merit, he did well in the PSL I don't think he would have been a burden on the team if let's say a series is what he wanted. I thought he was an average ODI player, but he's an ATG T20 player.

Let's be honest too think Misbah and Younis are similar. Misbah really i think wanted to retire after Eng series, he just was persuaded to do the aus series. Wanted to go off on a high which is why after aus series was over, wanted to do WI series.

Younis similar, though he was worse in some ways. Only reason I think he wanted to play in the world cup was to end on a high as he knew his ODI record was average and wanted to rectify his reputation there. If he'd done well people would have remembered at least he did well in ODIs. This was wrong of him really, he shouldn't have pressurized to get selected when he clearly didn't deserve it on merit past or present.

Also why he's probably considered test series retirement a few times, doesn't know how many series he'll have left with him performing, so has probably made WI his last one.

Cricketers just want to end on a high. Last match/series often sticks with you. I don't particularly blame them, a lot of people don't get it as they haven't really been in that position.

He played one more international match, he would have been made a fool and trolled by millions of people worldwide. If he still wishes to play an international farewell match, then he must be ready to sacrifice his reputation.
