I do not think we need anymore proof of who is the most popular cricketer in the modern game than this week - Afridi.

1 tweet, ONE, and Afridi has not only rocked a nation of 1.3 Billion, but has their media channels and celebrities in a tailspin! It took less than 200 characters, and now Billions around the world are reading and reacting to his tweet.

Love you Lala - you are the legend that keeps on giving! Keep hitting those trundlers for sixes!

:19:

Afridi is alwaysbpopular for the wrong reasons :))

Almost like he wears it like a badge of honor

Afridi is a popular cricketer. Everyone knows him in cricketing world.

Irrespective of his political views, he is a charismatic cricketer known for entertaining crowds with his explosive batting and some funny brain fades right through his career.

1.3 billion Indians can disagree with views on Kashmir, but we cannot deny that he was one of the most popular cricketers of late 90's and 2000's.

Kashmir is a sensitive subject for Indians as it involves our army who put their life in peril to protect the frontiers of India. So it does not matter if Afridi said it or Jayasurya said it or Waqar Younis said it. If it involves Kashmir, there will always be very strong reaction to it from Indian public.

Knew it was a R3verse Swing post before even clicking on it.

This day just keeps getting better and better.

Keep up the good work brother!

Definitely the most popular cricketer in India! Even more popular than Tendulkar, in fact Tendulkar himself responds when Afridi so much as tweets.

One little tweet has the whole of India furious!:sendoff Bowling lalle bowling!;-)

This thread has like 10 posts.

And 100s of views.

The point is, you find this thread is *stupider* than Afridi's tweet, and have still posted twice in this thread.

Had I put Gambhir in the title, would it have changed your view on the stupidity of this threat vis a vis Gambhir's tweet?

Wow! Brilliant!

MS Dhoni shunned by Afridi chants in IOK!

Ouch! That must hurt!

I wonder if the Indian Army will designate the chanters as traitors and try, oops sorry, execute, them for treason.

Afridi's tweet was stupid.

Gambhir's tweet was lame.

Nope.

Afridi is in the wrong here.

Should have been ignored.

People from India kept saying he is no body no body no body and on the other hand he became news flash of every channel even some debates show on his tweet.

Afridi was wrong (may be) but Indian media went terribly wrong.

Yeah...you have a fair point.

Afridi knows the game. He triggered 1.3 billion Indians to remain relevant and ensure his foundation gains popularity. Masterstroke really. He knew he could count on the Indians to shun him back in to the limelight.

This thread is stupider than Afridi's tweet.

This thread makes sense though, a single tweet from Afridi has the entire Indian media in a frenzy. It clearly shows how popular Afridi is in India.

IiRC Indian cricketers and even actors have made anti Pakistan comments in the past but got pretty much no coverage in Pakistan.

Clearly a genius beast!

In Pakistan, he must be the most popular cricketer ever, alongside IK.

Afridi donates Rs100 million for construction of hospital in Thar

World renowned cricket allrounder Shahid Khan Afridi has donated an amount of Rs100 million for construction of a hospital in Thar on Wednesday.

He attended the programme organized to launch a housing scheme at Sehryo for the affected people of Thar Coalfield at Block-II in Sehryo village, where chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was the chief guest.

Chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah was also present at the programme.

Besides Bilawal Bhutto and Murad Ali Shah, Afridi also spoke on the occasion and congratulated the PPP chairman and the chief minister Sindh for constructing Thar Airport and carrying various development works in Thar.

He said Bilawal Bhutto is the son of legendary leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who laid her life for this country. Therefore, people of Pakistan have great hopes in Bilawal Bhutto.

Afridi, on this occasion, presented the chief minister Sindh, Executive Director NICVD Dr Nadeem Qamar and SECMC Shamsuddin Shaikh a cheque of Rs100 million for construction of a hospital in Thar.

In the concluding remarks of his speech, Afridi said ‘now children of Thar would play cricket. I will play [cricket] with you’.

Sure, if cricket was played in Pakistan only.

When did this happen?

Just like this thread.

OK if you insist. Though I doubt you read the parent thread in the cricket forum started by an Indian member.

Perhaps this thread doesn't makes sense because Tendulkar is not the most popular cricketer? (Rhetorical question meaning no need to answer it)

Didn't see your media making a HUGE deal and having debate shows on either one, though!

Our media is more of an entertainment industry. All the dumb idiots are discussed. With every little ******** things in the world finding plenty of air time, Afridi's troll attempt is in the right place.
