Wow this is an absolute monster team. Hats off to Afridi :afridi

Im sure this team would beat all the teams comprehensively irrespective of the era

Not sure why former payers include Lara in all time ODI team. Yes, he was an awesome test player but there are much better ODI batsmen than him. Same goes with Sanagakkara. Average ODI player. Kallis is also not a great choice but concession can be made for him being an allrounder. I'd choose players like Bevan, Klusener, and Watson over these guys. But hey, it's Lala's team. His choice.

In the modern ODI world you would want Saeed Anwar over Sachin.

come on afridi lets have a match. Anwar
Sehwag
Kohli
Viv
Yousuf
Dhoni
Cairns
Akhtar
Waqar
Bond
Saqlain

Wasn't many - from 1990 to 1997-98, BC was by far the best ODI player, who raised his game on clutch matches. Probably, he lost interest after. Also, probably his fascination to hit boundaries didn't suit ODI batting, which in a sense is monotonous & boring - you need to rotate too many singles.

Awesome team indeed - the best selection of such teams in recent time.

By his selection criteria, I would have picked 10 out of 11 players - only Saqlin replaces Walshi.

I wouldn't have Walsh, although he was very economical, had an average over 30 and couldn't hold a bat to save his life.

Waqar Younis would be much better, his yorkers (at his peak) at the end of the innings were impossible to get away.

Guess most would agree with this team.

I'd replace Sanga with Dhoni or Bevan, most of the top order will score the runs so it's not a major quelm but I'd like for a finisher in the team down the order as well. Anyhow it's still a beastly team

Sanga and Walsh out for Bevan/Dhoni and Saqlain. Otherwise, a surprisingly brilliant team.

True ,would had put Saqlain too instead of Warne but Warne had a very good 1999 WC,also tempted to put Klusner instead of Kallis.

But overall compared to the biased teams most players chose,Lala has done a very good job.

IIRC, Walsh troubled Afridi in his early days. Also, he has an axe to grind against Waqar.

captain crook. Thanks ... ur options in hayden and AB are great. I placed sehwag bcz it wd give a left and right hand combination at the top. AB no doubt will provide acceleration at the death but for that dhoni and cairns are brilliant too. Yousuf would give a bit more steadiness to the squad in the middle period.

A great team overall, but Sangakkara and Kallis will be liabilities at 6 and 7. AB de Villiers didn't make it because he was his bunny. Struggled a lot against his drift.

This team is much better than I predicted what Afridi would choose after seeing the title of this thread.

Good shout mate! Klusner never gets his due around here, there's a case for Pollock as well perhaps to go ahead of Kallis. I was expecting Lala to include himself :yk

this team just shows you his own mentality and the mentality of the whole Pakistani cricketing circles, that you only need 1 spinner to succeed, which itself is a big false.

Afridi bashed most spinners thats why he would have put just a solitary spinner in his side.

A good team but very batting heavy. A top order of Gilchrist, Tendulkar, Ponting, Lara, and Inzi is monstrous in ODIs.

I would drop Sanga and Kallis from his team and play Symonds and Klusener.

I'd keep Sanga, drop Kallis and have Lara open with Tendy. Gilchrist can drop down the order.

Don't be upset. Misbah was the 12th man.

Nasty XI indeed, but Sanga and Kallis at 6 and 7 respectively is too low.

It also lacks a finisher and perhaps another spinner as well.

Great XI nonetheless.

Sachin
Gilchrist
Ponting
Lara
Inzi
Sanga
Kallis
W Akram
Warne
McGrath
Walsh

I like that he selected Inzi. Good choice. Not many select him because of his fielding or running between wickets. But he is a TOP batsman.

I wonder if Sanga has been selected because of his batting and keeping skills or because he is the only Sri Lankan he could fit in the squad.

Also I notice, almost no one ever includes an Englishman or New Zealander in their All time ODI teams..

Because there are no English or Kiwi ATG odi player. Bond and petersen could've been had they played more matches

this is the best team ever.. it can beat any team regardless of the era, regardless of the format.

Gavaskar
Hobbs
Bradman

Miandad
Viv Richards
Sobers

Knott

Khan
Hadlee
Waqar
Murali

This team would beat the above in test cricket 4-1.

4-1 wifh opening bat with gavaskar is laughable.. out 5 matches 3 would be draw thats how slow he use to bat. when bradman batted there was no reverse swing. I still rate shoaibs team better it possess both modern as well as yesteryears brilliance.

90s Sachin (his prime) was the most dominant ODI batsman of all time.

You clearly haven't seen Saeed of the 90s then.

In fact, Saeed had more centuries than SRT at that time and he was the ATG ODI opener of that era.

It looks ok except for Walsh - never was a fan unfortunately. Would have gone for Waqar - youngsta beauty :waqar

Sachin had a much better average, far superior strike rate and way more centuries than Anwar by 2000. Check them on Cricinfo since links from that site aren't allowed here.

Bey sensible selections from Afridi.

Good team. Also good to see Afridi showing confidence in the guy whom he saw trembling in fear facing Akhtar.

Amazing team Afridi the blaster aka relukata has picked a solid team no bits n pieces in the side very very solid lineup if only Walsh can ne swapped with Ambrose
