Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has rejected Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan's resignation and had asked the senior administrator to complete his three-year term.

According to reliable sources in the PCB, Shaharyar had sent his resignation to the patron-in-chief of PCB before going to attend the crucial International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings in Dubai.

“Shahryar had made it clear that due to health and personal reasons he would like to step down on April 30,” one source said.

“But after Shahryar returned from Dubai after attending the ICC meetings where the Big Three governance system was rolled back, he has been informed by the Prime Minister's house that he should carry on working and complete his term which ends in late August,” the source said.

The PCB chairman is the nominee of the Prime Minister on the Board of Governors and is directly elected by them for a three-year tenure.

“Apparently the Prime Minister is clearly happy with Shahryar's working and the way he handled the Big Three issue at the ICC meetings. Basically, he has been rewarded for his work,” the source said.

The decision to ask Shahryar to complete his term also bodes well for the PCB as this week it will be unrolling its legal action against the BCCI to seek compensation for the not honouring the MoU signed between the two boards.

Shahryar also made it clear that the PCB wants to have good relations with the BCCI but it had been forced to go for legal action.

“We have suffered major losses because of India's refusal to play the bilateral series as per the MoU and we can't allow this to continue. If India confirms it is willing to resume bilateral cricket it would be a positive development for cricket in the region,” Shahryar said.

Shahryar has also served as chairman of PCB between 2003 and 2006.

Najam Sethi, who is presently head of the executive committee in the PCB, is tipped to succeed Shahryar as chairman in August.

Hopefully the misery ends after August.

Sorry to say this, most of the time he doesn't even what is saying and makes embarrassing comments all due to old age.

Not a political forum, but let's just say that the PM has other things to worry about :) . .

Let's not even talk about how big of a joke it is that this requires intervention from head of state/govt!

Just one more institution that has been destroyed!

I have learnt a lot from the grand old man of PCB, he is the symbol of Perseverance. For a man of his age his fixation on a particular issue is simply unrivalled. Good luck on your retirement, dadu.

Good, I hope this is the last date of his stay.
Yeah guys can't wait for his replacement to save us

comparatively he was way better than his predecessors in the recent past.. Especially after his first stint pak had terrible chairmen like ijaz butt, zaka ashraf, etc...

would like to know where did he go wrong and why so much hate for him... Yes he keeps giving interviews every week, may be that is because of having few journalists in his team...

You have done well @SK sir... Good luck on your retirement and May God bless you good health..

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar M Khan has said that officially he has learnt nothing from the Patron-in-Chief of the Board, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, about the fate of his resignation whether it has been accepted or not.

Asked to comment on media reports saying the PM has not accepted his resignation which he tendered on April 27, Shaharyar said he has also heard the news from different quarters but officially he has received nothing.

Shaharyar sent his resignation citing health and other reasons for the decision he took about four months before the completion of his three-year tenure in August this year.

“I am doing my job and waiting an official word from the Patron about my resignation. I am going to Islamabad on Wednesday where I have to appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Sports on Thursday,” Shaharyar said.

Shaharyar was elected as PCB chairman in 2014, in result of ending a crucial legal war in the Supreme Court, started after Prime Minister has appointed Najam Sethi as PCB chairman in place of Zaka Ashraf.

The Supreme Court disposed off the case after Sethi assured the Apex court that he will no more be the candidate of the PCB. The premier then recommended the name of Shaharyar M Khan for the coveted post, who was working as one of the Board of Governors of the PCB at that time.

He really said that ? one more reason I can;t wait for his retirement. August looks too far away.

Well, he is getting fruits now. As PCB is set to grill BCCI, it might not be best of the time for him to retire. Esp after getting all the humiliation for repeated "BCCI tour karlo warna hum naraz ho jayain gay" requests.

Shahryar to preside last PCB governing body’s session on 28th

The last session of the current governing board of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is scheduled on July 28, and Shahryar Khan will preside his last session as chairman.

PCB chief is currently in England will return to Pakistan on July 27 to attend the meeting. According to the Constitution of PCB, the governing board choose the next chairman out of the two nominees.

The announcement of the name of election commissioner is expected after the governing board meeting. PCB will not have any chairman for some days until the elections, and the new governing board will start functioning after August 6.

Let it be known that a resolution was moved in the annual council meeting on May 25 to appoint Najam Sethi as the next PCB chief. Although the resolution holds no significance over the appointment, the conduct of higher officials of the board shows that Sethi will be the next chairman.

I have full confidence in Uncle Sherry to go out swinging :yk Highly looking forward for the usual gems from Dada ji in the coming meeting.

What will be the effect of the SC decision today on Sethi's political promotion.

This will be interesting, since the "head" of the PCB is the PM, and if the PM is disqualified then I'm sure Sethi saab is gone too. Will probably have new appointments by a new PM, unless the new PM is from PMLN, then not sure.
