Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been officially named captain of the Twenty20 team, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan announced.

"Since Mashrafe has retired, the board unanimously agreed to appoint Shakib as Bangladesh's next captain for Twenty20 internationals," BCB president Nazmul Hasan told reporters after the meeting.

"A few other names were discussed but in the end we all have agreed to appoint Shakib," he said.

Shakib has captained the T20 side on four previous occasions, with the Tigers suffering losses in each of those.

With the announcement, Bangladesh now have three captains for three formats. Mashrafe announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game in the recently-concluded tour of Sri Lanka, leaving the position vacant.

No. 1 allrounder in the world leading our side. Not bad.

I hope his captaincy has improved. Was rushed into captaincy but now he has matured as a mentor. Captaining at 30 is different from captaining at 22/23

Shakib was the obvious choice tbh, also being the vice captain he was an automatic candidate for captaincy after Mashrafe!! He is also a good choice since his approach towards captaincy has changed a lot since the last tenure as the full time captain.

Mahmudullah is another option and he should definitely be the deputy to Shakib!!
