Shan Masood says we don't play enough red-ball cricket so what does the PCB do before the England Test series?

To fix the issues higlighted by the Pakistan Test captain, the PCB duly organises an OD tournament 🤡🤪

In his post BD Series loss remarks:

Is lack of much red ball cricket the reason behind this series fiasco?

Test cricket is ultimate format of the game and you do need experience in it. One need to just extract the data regarding the overall number of Test matches played by this (current Pakistan) team and after how big a gap we do normally play. I believe as a nation we need to work and ponder over it. So we need to play more red ball cricket in our domestic circuit for improvements. So whichever format you want to play, you need players of that format before. For instance, you can't play a Test player in a T20 format and expect better results.

I think the od cup is to prepare for ct 2025, but yes, they shpuld have organised it after England series. The weather is Faisalabad would have been alot cooler as well

Like the game is reeling with this huge loss and our idea of prep is to play OD cricket?

Lame excuses. Bangladesh had not played a test match for 7-8 months prior to coming to Pakistan.

PCB cannot be blamed for everything. How much 4 day games can be held in a one month gap 1-3? Will that be enough?

PCB perhaps did not have another window to hold the Champions ODI Cup and Gary Kirsten probably demanded a major domestic ODI tournament to be held so that he can see and double check the domestic talent.

Shan is running out of excuses tbh.

Poor captain, poor batsmen and poor excuse of an analyst.

We need accountability not a million and one reasons why we lost to BD

This is not about Shan's captaincy

Pakistan's Test cricket is in shambles, if anything we need to spend time playing more red ball games with our senior and Shaheen guys in prep for the England series instead of this tamasha.

Exactly this.

People rightly praise the addition of Jamie Smith to the England team and how he could be a start for the future.
They forget he had made his first class red ball debut five years ago, has played 65 matches and scored 4000 first class runs before being picked for England.
Siam Ayub made his first class debut two years ago and has played 15 games.

You don’t prepare for Test matches against the top sides by playing in white ball cricket.

Shan may not be the best Test captain for PCT but he is actually spot on when he mentions lack of good red ball players in national side. And unfortunately he may suffer against England too as nothing is going to change before that.

Also the bigger worry is definitely the fact that PAK crashed out of the recent 2 white ball tournaments without so much as a whimper.

PCT can afford to become a weak Test side. But they absolutely cannot afford to be this weak in white ball cricket.

That's right

Since 2010 pakistan played australia and England 47 times in tests, while bangladesh just played 7 times during this time but they still beat Pakistan badly. Just excuses.

The one will follow the other.

You need a first class structure to support the development of a Test side.
It is no coincidence that the three countries with the strongest first class structures also have the strongest Test sides.

Pakistan is not going to be a serious test side anymore. The players and administration has themselves given up on Test Cricket.
The challenge is that if they give up on Test cricket there is no real point in playing first class cricket.
You give up on that and you give up on the development of players even for white ball cricket, certainly 50 overs.

I guess Pakistan could be some sort of mercurial T20 side, but that’s basically an admission that it isn’t a serious cricket nation….whcih may actually soon be the case.

India preparing for Tests with Duleep Trophy..

Pakistan preparing for England series with Champions Cup

Pakistan seems to be focusing on preparation for Champions trophy. Also England will play bazball so it's good for Pakistan to be in ODI mode. They however could have been innovative and play this cup with red ball.
