Sharjeel Khan delivers anti-corruption lecture as part of his rehabilitation [Post #121]

Sharjeel should replace Fakhar in the squad. Either that or remove Hafeez, drop Fakhar down the order and make Sharjeel open. Sharjeel will take good care of the run rate and Fakhar will take care of opposition spinners.

I hope he is integrated sooner rather than later.

2.5 years lost without cricket, should be really rusty. But as they say, class is permanent...

According to reports, he will be legible to play immediately after he undergoes the rehab program. But the details are a little vague right now...

Tainted Test opener Sharjeel Khan completed a 30-month ban for spot-fixing on Saturday but Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it clear that he has to accept his wrongdoing and attend Anti-Corruption rehabilitation programme before resuming his career.

Sharjeel was banned from all forms of cricket for five years in August 2017 for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that marred Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier that year but the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal had said half of his ban would remain suspended.

Sharjeel, playing for the Islamabad United franchise, was found guilty by the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal headed by Lt General (retired) Tauqir Zia, along with other players like Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Nawaz, Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hasan.

A PCB official said Sharjeel could be allowed to resume playing as soon as September in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy but he has to first admit his involvement in the spot-fixing and apologise for his actions.

He recalled that Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif had to do the same when their spot-fixing bans expired in 2015.

Sharjeel’s lawyer Shaighan Ejaz said they had already written to the PCB that his client was ready to undergo the rehabilitation process so that he can return to playing cricket.

Asked about the particular provision under which Sharjeel will have admit his crime and make a public apology, Ejaz said the rehabilitation programme itself contained a clause which said a player can only be allowed to attend it if he is deemed to have admitted his mistake and shown remorse for his actions.

“Sharjeel wants to play cricket again and once we get an answer from the PCB, we will see where things stand,” he said.

Sources close to Sharjeel said he has accepted the five charges laid out against him but is reluctant to admit that he committed spot-fixing or derived any financial benefits from it.

Sharjeel should openly narrate the truth and give an open hearted account of confession.

Read the other thread.

He clearly didn’t do it, and the published PCB Tribunal proceedings failed to find ANY evidence whatsoever.

Then how will he settle the things with the PCB?

And why is he punished if not guilty?

Sharjeel to undergo PCB’s rehabilitation process next week

Pakistan cricket board (PCB) has called Sharjeel Khan to Lahore next week for the rehabilitation process, which would allow him to return to playing cricket at the earliest.

According to the reliable source, the banned cricketer will meet the Legal and Anti-Corruption Department officials during his rehabilitation program.

Sharjeel wrote a letter to PCB asking for participation in the board’s rehabilitation program, after which the board asked for a public apology from the tainted cricketer for his involvement in spot-fixing to comply with International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption code of conduct, afterwards, he will be allowed by the board to undergo the rehabilitation program.

Moreover, sources revealed that the left-handed opener is ready to accept the charges PCB laid out against him but is unsure to accept the spot-fixing claims against him.

Sharjeel was banned for five years for his involvement in spot-fixing in Pakistan Super League 2017 while representing Islamabad United. He was found guilty by the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal headed by Lt General (retired) Tauqir Zia, along with other players like Khalid Latif, Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Nawaz, Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hasan.

The batsman has represented Pakistan in one Test, 25 One-day Internationals (ODIs) and 15 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

Get him into the camp already!

I am shaking in my boots thinking of Fakhar Zaman facing up to Archer at Lord's on the first morning. It will last one short pitch ball.

Sharjeel on the other hand...

He will probably get the Amir treatment and be fast tracked into the side. A batsman shouldn't lose his touch as shown by Smith, Warner.

Pakistan’s opening batsman, Sharjeel Khan reached Gaddafi Stadium Lahore to receive briefing from the PCB about rehabilitation program on Monday, ARY News reported.

The flamboyant left-handed batsman has to undergo the rehabilitation program to become eligible to make his comeback in the cricketing circuit once again.

In the rehabilitation program, he will deliver lectures to the budding cricketers, which will help them avoid any sort of involvement in wrongdoings.

The 30-year-old was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board for 2.5 years for being involved in spot-fixing during the second season of the Pakistan Super League.

Khan is eager to complete his rehabilitation program as quickly as possible to return to the cricketing field at his earliest.

If he has a good domestic season if cleared to play he could walk back into the Pakistan side.

From recent pictures he looks unfit. Worse then he was before.

I dont understand how pros cant follow a simple meal plan and fitness routine to keep in shape.

He wont be back, his career is over.

So he wont be playing this year’s domestic season by the looks of it.

You have to be a good sportsman to become a good cricketer. A sportsman never compromises on his fitness. Sharjeel was not fit even during his peak days and now this news. Lets move on from him.

has anybody here seen his boxing video on social media? If you watch that you might get the answer to why he is not in any FC team.

Glad pcb have learn their lesson from amir episode. He should not be rush to any form cricket on emergency basis .

Sharjeel's weakness has always been food. For a guy who knew his ban was ending at this time, the fact he did zero work on his fitness during the gap shows how unprofessional he is

<iframe src="https://streamable.com/s/rg3md/dsjwcr" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>.

Aray aray Sharjeel bhai thora halqay hojain.... itni intensity, kahin thak na jain :sarf2

One of these looks hopelessly unfit, out of shape, a professional biryani eater, and the other one is gym trainer.

Sharjeel looking more built than last time I saw him. His boxing jabs in that video are very quick. This dude looks ready for international cricket.

Amir did ok on his return not his fault the team cant catch.

Why does anyone care about Sharjeel would he even get in the side?

If he is eligible, he should return to national team soon. Pakistan needs someone like him in T20.

Sent me a message saying he will be back soon. Rehab under way.

I see he's not named in the National Cup T20 squads.

Lol, his rehab should include 80% of time in the gym and being put on a diet plan. He was horribly out of shape in the last gym video i saw of him

He has been out of cricket for more than 2 years. He needs to play few domestic matches to prove his form and fitness.

Misbah speaking to the press today:

"Sharjeel has I think gotten permission to play club cricket. Once he plays, we'll see what happens"

He has been out of cricket for more than 2 years. He needs to play few domestic matches to prove his form and fitness.

Lol, he was fat when he played, probably take him another 2 years to regain that match fitness.

But that's okay because by then he'll be at an age Misbah might still consider too young to be inducted back into the team. :yk2

hes unfit, with his diet it will take over years to get into good fitness. its funny how how all these guys get unfit so quick and dont even play in the off season.

i dont think he will be that good.

Tainted Sharjeel Khan set to be part of PSL players draft

Pakistan's tainted opening batsman Sharjeel Khan is set to be part of the players draft for the fifth edition of PSL.

Sharjeel, who completed a five-year ban for breaching the Pakistan Cricket Board's Anti-Corruption code in August, has been given clearance by the board to resume playing club cricket.

"Sharjeel recently appeared in a written test conducted by the PCB's Anti-Corruption unit and passed it successfully. He has now been told to travel to Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura and Karachi where he will give lectures to members of the junior teams taking part in the domestic youth events.

"In all probability Sharjeel should be cleared to also feature in the players draft for the PSL," one source in the board said.

The official said since he completed his ban, Sharjeel has ticked all the boxes required under the anti-corruption rehabilitation laws to be eligible to play cricket again.

The left-hander, 29, had played a Test, 25 ODIs and 15 T20 internationals before he was banned from all forms of cricket for five years on August 30, 2017 for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that marred the Pakistan Super League (PSL)'s second edition earlier.

The PCB's Anti-Corruption Tribunal, after finding him guilty of breaching five clauses of the board's anti-corruption code, said half of his ban would remain suspended.

Sharjeel, playing for the Islamabad United franchise, was found guilty by the PCB's Anti-Corruption Tribunal along with other Pakistani players like Khalid Latif (who is still serving ban), Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Nawaz, Nasir Jamshed (still serving ban) and Shahzaib Hasan (still under a ban).

He and Khalid Latif were suspended and sent back home from Dubai at the start of the PSL in February 2017.

Does that mean he will be back in national colours soon?

Quick update from Sharjeel:

He has completed his PCB lectures.
He will be playing club cricket soon.
He hopes to play in the PSL 5 draft.

He is most probably gonna be selected in PSL 5 as his road to draft is pretty much clear and if he shows decent form then I wont be surprised seeing him opening the batting fro Pakistan in 2020 T20 WC.

I think doing time and walking back into the team is laughable.

Would a pedophile who was a teacher do time and then come back into same school as a teacher or a bank manager who embezzled do time and be rehired by the same bank?

This is not a joke that you do time and then you are eligible again.

Yes, you are eligible for a million other jobs but not the job you cheated your primary corporation out of.

All crimes are not the same and punishment is also different. And, you cannot punish a culprit twice for the same crime.

I dont understand how people called not being picked in a team as a punishment. I dont think its that confusing

Being selected in the international team is a privilege not a right. Are you being punished because you are not being selected in the team now? Or some less skilled player is being punished? Playing for your country is the highest privilege ever. You have to earn it and earn it every time. If some player develops a serious injury and is never picked is he being punished and discriminated?

I am not talking about Sharjeel here and am sure he will come back and do good. I am just questioning people who think not being picked for the national team which millions of people dream of doing, is some kind of punishment

You're right. It is a privilege. Not a right, and not a punishment. But people tend to see it how they want to. If Fakhar had performed the last two years as all the fans think Sharjeel would have, we wouldn't see so many making the case for his return. Same with Amir. If Pakistan's pace bowling wasn't suffering like it was in 2016, Amir's return may not have been as impatiently awaited. Since both these guys can potentially be part of the team, we should stop "punishing" them by keeping them out. All others with similar offences we found replacements for or are past their prime, meh who cares. They fixed. Don't wanna hear about them or from them.

he is essential now we need to see him in psl and get him in the team asap or lets just try him in any upcoming series before psl

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday ordered to remove cricketer Sharjeel Khan’s name from the exit control list (ECL). LHC Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi heard the petition. Sharjeel Khan adopted a stance that he had no linked with spot and match-fixing. The petition was filed on Sharjeel Khan’s behalf by his counsel Ejaz Ahmed.

The petition stated that the cricketer was unable to go to perform Umrah and meet his brother in Dubai due to travel restrictions placed on him. It further argues that the interior ministry illegally placed Sharjeel Khan’s name on the ECL. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), interior ministry and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been nominated as respondents.

Later, the court ordered to remove Khan’s name from ECL. Last year, the cricketer was banned for five-year from playing cricket by a PCB-appointed Anti-Corruption Unit after he was found guilty of spot-fixing in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

It is a punishment when you would have been the first name on the playing list.
And do not forget the financial aspect, shajeel has lost out on ALOT of money, by being banned from playing cricket.
And i never bought the argument about playing for your country being a privilege,.you are selected because you are thought by the management as being a good player and not as a gift. The country requires these top players just as much as the players require being selected.

Hopefully he is still in touch with high quality cricket. Will need a year or so to re-acclimatise

Sharjeel has started his comeback by playing a few friendly matches in local club cricket in Hyderabad.

I am afraid to see what his current fitness levels are. He was never in great shape as an international cricketer. Now a few years later with no competitive cricket.....brings back memories of those boxing videos

Disgraced opener Sharjeel Khan will meet his Pakistan team members ahead of the Sri Lanka Test series to lecture them on the board's Anti-Corruption code as part of his rehabilitation program.

Sharjeel, who has returned to nets after completing a five-year (half of it suspended) ban for spot-fixing, has been told by the PCB to meet with the Pakistan team players at their camp in Rawalpindi before the first test against Sri Lanka from December 11.

"Sharjeel will not only meet with the players but also share his experience with them and lecture them on why players need to adhere to the Anti-Corruption code clauses," a reliable source in the board said.

He said this would be the final part of Sharjeel's rehab program after which he can return to playing domestic cricket and the Pakistan Super League.

The left-handed opener was banned from all forms of cricket for five years on August 30, 2017, for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that marred the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier that year.

However, the PCB's Anti-Corruption Tribunal headed by Lt General (rtd) Tauqir Zia after finding him guilty of breaching five clauses of the PCB's anti-corruption code had said half of his ban would remain suspended.

The 30-year-old declined to speak to the media on Wednesday at the UBL sports complex where he was having net sessions.

Sharjeel's name has been included by the PCB in the players draft for the 5th edition of the PSL to be held on Friday in Lahore.

As part of his rehab program, Sharjeel has given lectures to members of the under-19 team and players of domestic teams besides attending anti-corruption classes himself.
