Sharjeel Khan - Not doing justice to his talent

Perhaps what gives me optimism about Sharjeel is that he is not a hack. All of his shots are going exactly where they need. Not a lot of risky stuff in there. If anything I think he needs to believe in himself even more and go harder. He hits the boundaries so easily, that I think even he is surprised at how he is doing at this level. Its as if he make an effort to slow down his batting.

Should get confidence with these runs under the belt. And look to carry momentum in the last one day, He should be looking to score a big hundred.

But maybe put on a better price over his wicket once well set

Well since his return he is averaging 41@133

Cant complain

It will come. He has improved every innings he has played. Looked good in the test as well. I dare say, ready to bat in tests also.

A very good opener for Pak in the new era but he's slowly and slowly getting better. He needs to somehow play longer innings and by that I mean not changing his game. He should still play the same way but try not to get out and to some extent, improve his game against spin. He should look for the big hundreds now.

Today's innings was very good. But he could have easily got a ton here and possibly make it a much better effort for the cause.

Absolutely loved how he used power and timing against Hazlewood.

Pressure will be on him to change his game due to lack of support form the other end. Hope he resists.

He's indeed Don Bradman caliber player if you restrict him to Pakistan.

Others can't even imagine batting like him.

Good talent at least we have one batsmen who can keep up with modern standards. Need to develop some more.

Sone clean hitting today and used his edge to score runs well given Australia for long periods had no slip in place.

If his career finishes with 35@100 then I'd be pretty content.

Wonder how many runs the "leg side hack" has score on the off side today

Don't know if we have such players, Nauman Anwar looked bright prospect and had strokes till he went on to be terrible.

Nauman Anwar, Awais Zia, Mukhtar Ahmad...there's a revolving door of potentially aggressive Pakistani openers that never proved themselves

Good batting, but if we count the drops and runs leaked due to his lazy fielding, then he is not doing much. We need to hide him somewhere.

I expect to find couple more similar hitters from psl.

Really batting well, he will not face better attacks and fielding sides than this. Only that the pitches are flat but they are flat about everywhere.
So if he can do this against Australia he can do better against the others.

Sharjeel and Haris Sohail are the fathers of modern day batting for Pakistan. They will be remembered in 30 years time as pioneers of their age. This is history in the making.

Babar is better than Haris. I rate both of them very highly though

what do you think about shahzaib? should he open with sharjeel ?

I'd prefer giving a chance to Umar as opener first but I'd take shahzaib over these Azhars any day as opener. Wouldn't mind shahzaib down the order. That would be a really good idea but dont expect inzi to ever think like this.

I'm only expecting one or two changes in the next squad maximum. Sarfaraz will come in place of Asad and maybe Nawaz and Rahat will be replaced. Don't get your hopes up with Inzi the revolutionary.

Umar Akmal has completely lost the plot and after so many chances he got nobody but himself to blame, all I hear from him and his supporters are excuses. It would be suicide to open with Umar, the oh well he is a better option then Azhar doesn't justify selecting him as an opener, I rather give the opportunity to a rising talent, invest in him and elevate their progress; we've seen the potential of such a move with Sharjeel.

I was surprised the first moment I saw him bat for Pakistan. Usually you see either plodders and grafters who toil their way to scores or hacks who just slog blindly in their LOI team. But Sharjeel looked very different from the others, he was a clean hitter of the ball and didn't lose shape while playing his shots. He looked very un-Pakistani as a batsman and was a free flowing stroke maker. Like I said, he is a like a diamond in a sea of rubble in the Pakistani team. His timing and clean hitting reminds me of a young Yuvraj. Probably Pakistan's first class ODI batsman after Anwar retired.

He does have certain vulnerabilities like any other batsman but has the potential to be one of the best LOI batsmen in the world with some good application.

Three 50s in a row is good but we need a very big hundred on at least 1 occasion from him to really put massive totals on board or even chase down big totals. He needs to go on which is an area he needs to work on.

Finch is also a hack.

Doesnt mean they dont have a role and be used effectively

tbh he is not a hack by the text book definition

he plays clean shots

Leg side hack, Flat Track Bully, Limited Player and God knows whatever was said about him.

And he has turned up and scored 250+ Runs in this series.

Mamoon he has exceeded your prediction as well. Third fifty on trot

Agree with all the points.

It's hilarious he was dropped for some poor matches in the start of his career. Could've served us much more.

Being dropped can often be a blessing for a player, if they take the opportunity to review their game and come back an improved player.

I not a huge fan of his but he's done well this series, let's hope he can continue.

In West Indies this should be the top 5

1. Sharjeel Khan
2. Shahzaib Hasan
3. Babar Azam
4. Haris Sohail
5. Sarfaraz Ahmed

People need to stop expecting Warner like consistency from Sharjeel, and realize he isn't built to play long innings. He's a godsent for this team, who's been performing way above anybody's expectations, and has improved quite a lot during the time he was out. He's clearing the boundaries at will playing proper shots, not just ugly hoicks.

He might score a 100 once in every 25 innings, but we really shouldn't be complaining if he keeps giving us the starts he's been giving us of late. Can develop into an even better player if he pays a bit of attention towards his fitness.

Yeah, good series for him, but disappointed at some level that he couldn't convert any of his scores into something big. That shall remain a persistent issue unless he works on his fitness, which he should have long ago.

Indeed he should have an eye on scores in excess of 130. Looked well set for a big one till he missed that pull off Starc.

Signs of improvement and consistency.

What I'd like him to do is to watch Warner and see how he goes about batting and look to convert these 50s into 100s.

Told you you were underrating him. It was in this thread I think
