"Sharjeel Khan should now think day and night about becoming super-fit" : Misbah-ul-Haq

This guy is an embarrassment. He has not stayed in shape despite having 2 years off. That tells you everything about his motivation and character.

People who are begging for this guy to return are settling for mediocrity and unprofessional behaviour.

Hence you'd rather go for Pak daman and superfit Shehzad?

I am afraid after this break some of the cricketers could well look like Sharjeel too!

This lockdown can be a blessing for Sharjeel. If he works hard and watches his diet he has a chance to get selected whenever cricket resumes

A guy who has never been in shape and Misbah expects him to get fit.

With this lockdown, the rest may well look like Sharjeel when it is over.

So, he misses out on selection.

Maybe he isn't super-fit as per PCB's requirements?

Lol has anyone seen Sharjeel? The guy is a literal human beach-ball. And sorry but his batting is very rusty. He is not on the same level that he was when he was last playing Australia at the SCG in 2016.

Well that came with persistent chance that MA gave him. He also roped him in into the tests. Sharjeel and khalid latif shoot themselves in their foot with wat they have done. They could have achieved more success by now. Some players rhythm is also synced to their body reflexes , the hand eye co-ordination. Jamshed tried to lose weight and lost his place in the side , his shot reflexes went downhill frome there on, even Misbah himself when lost weight he was struggling to score runs. Im sure sharjeel will lose all his reflexes if he loses lot of weight

Sohail Khan is no Jonty Rhodes so I personally don't get it. Either you select super fit players only or you don't. One rule for some players and another for other players sends both a confusing message and is unfair.

I don't buy this. Jamshed lost his form before he lost his weight. He then tried to lose weight in the hope that being fitted may help his performance - it didn't. He then blamed his weight loss for his lack of performance.

Of course Jamshed was caught by the National Crime Agency here in the UK participating in extreme levels of corruption. So who knows what was behind his complete lack of performance.

A rare sensible decision.

Sharjeel is an unfit, overrated batsman who is not good enough for international cricket. Never was and never will be.

His only claim to fame is score three inconsequential half-centuries on roads where Warner blasted 150+ and Australia posted 370.

Mamoon only if he was competing with Sharmas and Finch and Warners for spot in pak opening spot. He is still the best option we have for atleast T20s despite all his short comings. Find me a better ready made opener and I take it in a blink.

Sharjeel aint a bad T20 player as per Pakistan’s current standards. Yes he is a hack (just like Fakhar) but he has been very smart at times with selective hitting. Worth another go.

If you say that Sharjeel is poor but we don’t have better alternatives, I will accept that viewpoint.

However, some deluded individuals are adamant that he was/is going to be a world beater and basically our version of Warner which is complete nonsense.

I would personally not have him anywhere near the squad because he is fat, unfit, old and a poor fielder in addition to being a mediocre batsman.

Why he isn't working on his belly fat

Whilst I have no proof of this, I think it will be very very difficult for Sharjeel to make a come back to the Pakistan team. Remember, he was caught with the fixing charges whilst playing under Misbah for ISLU. I remember Misbah being very disappointed at the time, and he may ask more of Sharjeel than other players to get back into the Pakistan squad.

If Pakistan keep winning most T20 games, even if the openers not named Babar fail, it's unlikely he'll get a shot. At this point, he will basically have to do really well at the domestic level in terms of both high scores and strike rate to be considered. That all ofcourse is without mentioning his fitness, where he absolutely needs to get his weight down.

Sharjeel needs a breakout PSL. He didn’t have that last year.

Combined with his body mass, there are too many reasons not to take him and instead invest in someone like Haider Ali or Zeeshan.

I do think he has the ability still in him to smash a ball around like no tomorrow. His strike rate would be amazing for a fragile batting lineup like our national team that depends on Babar, who has a middling SR.

He has an easy roadmap ahead of him. Focus on the 2021 World T20 in India. Have a spectacular end to PSL 5 (if that happens) and smash it around in PSL 6 to stand head and shoulders above other openers. And lose some body mass, especially around the belly. Lots of cardio — so far it seems he’s been doing a lot of strength training in videos released.

If he does all this, he can make a spectacular comeback and even win us the cup.

I can remember babar talking about him I think if fakhar doesnt perform he will be brought in sooner or later.he just needs to loose weight and win a couple matches in psl for them

Something about his ‘flick shots’ and ease of playing extreme pace is very in-Pakistani.

He has a lot of issues and would probably not get into most other international teams.

However for Pakistan he is a luxury we definitely need in the shorter formats. Batsmen like him and Fakhar are so rare for us, that we have to make use of them.

I think only england austrlia and india all the rest he would play if he had better fitness

Misbah is going to make him earn the spot. Nothing wrong with that. Sharjeel is going to be back and there’s no doubt about it.

Has Sharjeel done anything at all apart from that one innings in PSL? Can't understand how he has so many ******* over here wanting to see him walk straight away into the national team, judging him based on potential they saw in him almost 4 years back. :danish

In terms of bowling psl is right up thier with the bestb

I think Sharjeel should return if Fakhar keeps on failing. Sharjeel showed what he was capable of.

Even out of form he’s an upgrade on Fakhr and Imam. If you don’t agree then maybe you’re ******* blind

Sharjeel got 17 in fitness test. Great news for his comeback. Let's see how he performs in Domestic T20

Need this guy back in the limited overs set up. Just imagine the top 4:
1. Fakhar
2. Sharjeel
3. Babar
4. Haider

Would be fun to watch.

How is that good? Is the minimum passing not 17.4? Are our standards that low that its great news, when someone barely fails the fitness test.

Its good bexouse he hasnt played cricket his fitness will improve imad wasim is at 17.2 and he plays.

As if the rest who are currently playing are super fit or even fit enough to be exact.

Sharjeel to start with was never fit let alone now being super fit in his his 30's.

If his fitness imrpoves i have no problem with him being on the squad. However 17 is no good enough.

Imad wasim should also be dropped . Shamefull that an international cricketer has such a huge belly.

He was punished and has served his sentence.

Pakistan players have great opportunities of making money from spot fixing! Because if you get caught, all you will get is a 5 year ban which is a risk worth taking due to the amount to money involved in fixing.

Dont generalize.

Do you no what the required amount to pass the fitness test for india is ?

Is it 16?

https://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/what-is-the-yo-yo-test/article24301295.ece

Thats what this article says, however it might have changed since then.

However it also stated that England had a score of 19. Why cant we set expectations high?

Its changed to 17

You have to look at what format that player plays the longer the format the more fit you have to be.if you had a player who wasnt that fit but was a excellent player would you exclude him ?

I would either exclude him, or if Pakistan was really desperate i would want him to play for the minimum wage of Pakistan.

The thing is these cricketers get paid a lot of money to play. Its unprofessional if they cant meet minimum fitness requirements.

A bit more on Sharjeel.

He attained 17.3 in the yoyo tests which is the best he has achieved for a very long time. This test was for his domestic team.

The Pakistan team pass mark for yoyo tests is 18, so Sharjeel is not too far away.

He's confident that he will attain the mark of 18 pretty soon.

Pakistan proberly only get paid 5 per cent of what india and austrlia get they have a proper system in place eg nutritionist ect Pakistan players get peanuts.

Inzamam wasnt the fittest but yet a very good batsman

Pakistan lacks some power hitter in this side. Sharjeel is good as per Pakistans standard. The next year T20 squad could be like this
1. Babar
2. Sharjeel
3. Fakhar
4. Haider
5. Hafeez
6. Rizwan, Sarfraz or Azam khan(Azam Khan is based on prediction and some review from ex players that he is very talented and working extremely hard on his fitness)
7. Shadab
8. Imad
9. Wahab
10.Amir
11. Shaheen

Reserves: Harris Rauf, S Mallik , Naseem shah, Khushdil

This squad has the blend of youth and experience players. Although this team lack some firepower in the middle overs but this is the best among available players. They can compete with best sides

Well since dumb misbah has dropped him, has to be an illogical decision.
Someone right mentioned about sohail khans selection and sarfaraz can be included as well, they are not fitter either but since misbah dislikes a good player means he can't get in. Performance should always be the priority, but yeah fitness should also be emphasized on but should not be the reason to drop a player, instead fining a certain amount from match fees could be an option.
Pcb needs to get rid of misbah,he is tactically absolute defensive and any person in that atmosphere will find it impossible to shed off that crap in future he is gonna obtain in this atmosphere.Unfortunate Pakistan cricket.

Sharjeel getting wasted like countless others. I don't know what impact Fakhar's fitness has had on the team. He's not making runs and is under no pressure as there are no replacements. I'll take Sharjeel with his "belly" with impactful runs at the top rather than a lean and fit failing opener.

PCB is a hell-hole unless you get lucky or know the right kind of people.

Fakhar is a gun fielder. Sharjeel has also been extremely inconsistent in domestic to get a recall - his first season at Karachi post-ban was not good at all barring one or two innings.

Misbah’s quote asking for Sharjeel to focus on fitness is actually the right thing for Misbah to say (performance is for granted - you perform, you get selected, and vice versa). If fitness hurts your case by even 10% (and for Sharjeel it does) then work on it and make no doubt in a selector’s mind.

17.3 is very poor imo
Sarfaraz, Imad, Yasir etc all used to do better than this and pass the yoyo test & none of them exactly look fit.

Sharjeel is laughable overrated.

He has always been a failure at the international level.

A couple of inconsequential half-centuries on 350+ pitches and our fans think he is our savior.

Typical delusional Pakistani fans. Nothing new here.

Virat has 90 ℅ of his runs on such pitches, in limited overs cricket. The two new balls has reduced every other ground as batting friendly. Even in England 350 is a common score even scored by teams like Pakistan.

But he has been extremely ruthless against genuine fast bowlers such as milne, wood, starc etc. Thus clearly has the potential. There arent many world beaters playing cricket at the moment, it's just some people are lucky to play on such pitches and average in 60s.we have seen how garbage they are when it gets lil tough.

Given Fakhar's recent struggles, Sharjeel probably walks back into the T20I and ODI teams I reckon, providing he's fit enough.

I agree but rather go with someone like Haider Ali or Zeeshan malik for opening in ODI's.

Can't wait to see Sharjeel in action. If he still has what he showed before the ban, it will be a riot!

We need someone assertive in the team.

Cant believe people supporting a fixer ! ! !

Did you forget how much shame Pakistan have faced from international media?

Zeeshan malik is good but I dont expect him to be thier for long run as we have babar who plays similar role sharjeel can open with babar and Haider at 3

From PCB Report, Day 3, Round 7, QeA20

Opener Sharjeel Khan scored his second half-century of the match as he made 51 off 61, which included four fours and three sixes, while Saud Shakeel was unbeaten on 50.
