Cricket Australia congratulates Shaun Tait on an outstanding career

Cricket Australia has congratulated Shaun Tait on his contribution to cricket, after his retirement from the game today.

Tait, 34, represented Australia in all three forms of the game, playing three Tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20Is.

His final international appearance was in early 2016, in a T20 match against India at the SCG, whilst he made his ODI retirement in 2011.

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said:

“In his prime, Shaun was the world’s fastest bowler. It was incredibly exciting to watch him full flight bursting through the defences of the game’s best batsmen.”

“Perhaps the highlight of his playing career was the instrumental role he played in the Caribbean during Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2007.”

“Unfortunately injuries restricted Shaun at certain stages and he certainly didn’t play as much as he would have liked.

“We take this moment to applaud him for his achievements and contribution on the field and wish him well for the future,” concluded Mr Sutherland.

Most recently, Tait represented the Hobart Hurricanes in BBL|06.

This guy was one of the fastest bowlers of his generation - makes Wahab look like a trundler lol

Unfortunately - injuries really hampered his career - just like other express bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee etc.

Congratulations to Shauna Tait.

Watching his short and extremely fast spells was always an entertaining part. Seemed like a decent lad too.

The last of the pace demons.....

Shabby, Lee and The Wild Thing make bowlers of Today look like proper trundlers....

A true Champion

Exciting fast bowlers is what the game needs and Tait was that!

Can remember watching his debut in the 2005 ashes. He was quick in his prime. A shame that injures hampered him.

Congratulations on your career Shaun.

We finished his test career in the world's fastest pitch

Not the occasion to showcase small heartedness. The guy has retired. Show some respect or shut up if you can't show decency.

Congratulations on your career Shaun.

A curse for all fast bowlers: Bond, Akhtar, Tait, Milne... even Stark is continuously injured.

Congrats to him... Express pace bowler and was a treat to watch in World Cup 2007.

Overrated to the core. Never seen a bowler who was as useless as tait with the kind of pace he could generate.

People forget but he had taken so many wickets at the 2007 World Cup too and retired from the format at a very young age.

Overrated??? He is actually the most underrated pace bowler ever!!

Overrated is what India bowlers like Zak, Srinath are. Check Taits bowling average in Odis and check any of your overrated pacers from the history of Indian cricket. Not even one Indian pace bowler comes close to his bowling average. If Tait was Indian, you would see 10 day goodbye package done by star sports after his retirement.

Hold on son. U r too much into hyperbole on a flash in a pan player who played less than 40 games for his country.

He is a mediocre bowler because he is pants in test cricket with 60 average

He has become an indianized Australian recently when he got overseas citizens of india card

I remember this over.

Farhat could barely handle 130 KPH and in comes Tait with 160 KPH. :)))
