Newly appointed Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid allegedly manhandled an elderly woman who attempted to meet him and later damaged the cellphone of a cameraman who had managed to record the incident, it emerged on Wednesday.

Channel 24 cameraman Aqib, whose phone was allegedly damaged, narrated details of the episode that took place on Tuesday afternoon to DawnNewsTV. Rashid, chief of the Awami Muslim League, has denied the allegations.

According to the cameraman, the incident occurred when he and a reporter had reached Rashid's Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi to record an Eid-related programme.

While they were there, an elderly poor woman tried to enter Rashid's house to meet him and reportedly seek financial help, but was stopped by the security guards posted at the gate.

The woman started crying upon being refused entry, Aqib told DawnNewsTV. Hearing the commotion, Rashid stepped out of his home and after a reported exchange of words, the AML leader allegedly shoved the woman away.

Rashid then turned towards Aqib, who was recording the incident through his cellphone's camera a few feet away. He allegedly snatched the phone from Aqib and slammed it onto a concrete block, the cameraman claimed.

No complaint has been filed with the police regarding the incident by the woman or the cameraman.

Meanwhile, Rashid while talking to DawnNewsTV denied manhandling the woman or damaging the cameraman's phone.

Disgusting. An investigation needs to be carried out and Sheikh Rashid should be removed as a Minister if allegations are proven to be true.

Sounds suspicious . This Aqib fella from dawn just happened to be hanging out? Sh Rasheed needs to watch his behaviour. Learn Dr Imrans lesson, leave it to security.

Dawn Journalist is taking a leaf out of Jibran Nasir Manual.

Orchestrate a controversy and have your own people there to record it and then cry foul on social media.....

Politicians need to widen up to these tactics and not take the bait.....let security deal with it

It should definitely be investigated, but I won't take any sides here. It doesn't sound like something he would do, nor have the cameraman and lady filed a complaint with the police.

"Shoved the woman away". Hardly sounds like manhandling.

Also can't the video be recovered from the memory of the mobile phone if it was thrown on the concrete? The phone may be broken but I think the memory can be recovered. I may be wrong though.

Why does the woman think it's okay to enter his house? If someone was trying to enter my house, they'd receive a fairly similar treatment. I'm sure the Railway Minister has an office she can go to.

Secondly, where is the video? The phone may be damaged but I'm sure the video can be recovered from it's hard drive.

Sounds like a miserably failed publicity stunt.
