Shift the Pakistan Super League out of the UAE!

I'm not saying shift it back to Pakistan but somewhere else where we can see reasonable amount of people turning to the grounds instead of what we are seeing. The turnout to the PSL has not been great in the UAE. I'm sure there are places where we can gather more people towards stadiums.
 
I have lost all interest in PSL and Pakistani cricket. Dull, boring, low scoring, same old TTFs, no new talent, can't hit ball outside the 30 yard circle, bowlers with no skills. Crowds. Well let's not even talk about crowds. I am done.
 
It would be better to have it in Bangladesh. Bangla brothers might throng the stadiums to watch these matches.
 
England is the best choice, final should be held at the oval...there are a lot of Pakistani's there...
 
I would say shift it back to Pakistan. With or without international players...
 
Logistical costs would be a nightmare in places like Eng, Aus, NZ and SA (well.....SA wouldn't be that expensive but still we'd have the same crowd problem there as well).

For political reasons we can't go to India so that's that....West Indies is too far which leaves us with Bangladesh or Sri Lanka.

I am not being sentimental here but I would quite honestly give up on Pakistan cricket the day we play our home games or PSL in Bangladesh - I know it sounds rude and condescending but I am 100% sure the majority of Pakistani population would feel the same way if given the choice.

The realistic options left are SRL and UAE.

You are forgetting one critical information brother, PSL is not Pakistan Cricket entity anymore. It's privatized which means the strings being pulled, are based on what the franchises and owners want and how much profit they make in general.

If you're thinking that private investors would be willing to share their revenue and earnings with more than 1 board the please reconsider your stance on how Pakistan corporations work in general. If we sincerely do want collaboration with other cricket boards on the lines of a league system then either

(a) Every investor and buyer for all PSL franchises should be on board and willing to collaborate

OR

(b) We create an entire new league from scratch and then do this all over again - the amount of lobbying and structural hindrance this would require is monumental and the output product could very well come out massively inferior to PSL.

This is the sole reason why I, along with a few other posters, didn't want the PSL to be privatized. Yes it makes the institution less corrupted than a PCB held office but you loose all leverage over anything related to Pakistan Cricket in general - If the franchises don't want something to happen in PSL, it sadly won't :(

Not possible:

1. Still not enough crowds: You are just imagining that people would turn up for 10s of games between two franchises of Pakistani cities with no loyal fan base. People will turn up for a few games but then ignore it like in UAE.

2. Crickets grounds are under county control, they would not share it and disrupt their own game schedule.

3. Costs: It would be insanely many times more costly to have it in England.

4. Time difference: Are you going to have matches past midnight in UK to suit the TV times in Pakistan??

Just because most PPers are based in UK, everyone simply imagines that all fans are from UK. :P

Why would CA or ECB want to associate with a tainted league with little addition to their finances. T20 leagues are not charity. PSL doesn't bring anything new for Big Bash or English T20 league.
 
Tbh this is probably due to the fact PSL 2 is less popular than the first one. Which is natural. But you've also got to bear in mind PSL 2 is very similar to the first one. There's nothing different.

The auction process every year is a bit silly in terms of building teams and probably not efficient, but it is very good at sparking interest and mixing up teams. The fact we didn't do it this PSL 2, and retained mostly the same team is hurting us. We're seeing the same teams dominate, same teams fail, mostly the same players in each.
 
We will have same crowd everywhere outside Pakistan, we have to admit it. I think apart from India (for various reasons) no other team or league can pull huge crowds outside their home country; that too for every day for whole month.

As there's no chance of PSL returning to Pakistan in current state so only feasible option is UAE. We like it or not we have to stick with it.
 
Pakistan Cricket is a couple of superstars away from rekindling the interest of neutral fans. You can shift PSL anywhere, but the response will stay lukewarm unless that happens.
 
The IPL 2 was hosted in South Africa was extremely successful. Every game was a sellout. Move it to South Africa.

Just wondering, is there some domestic version of the PSL and if there is, what sort of crowds do they get? You would have thought there would be an audience for Lahore vs Karachi even if it doesn't have the hype of the PSL.

The organisers should let people in for free for a few matches and provide buses to the stadium for them.

The English counties are not allowed to host other T20 leagues. This was decided when there was talk of the IPL or a breakaway IPL hosting some matches in English.

The English counties are essentially subsidised by the ECB so what the ECB says is what goes and they don't want foreign T20 leagues because they see it as a threat to their own domestic tournaments.

and when would u do it. they start cricket in rainy season and end it as soon as it starts getting cold. unless u wanna do it indoors

Faisal bank T20 or something,PCB cant market(as expected)and from the pics and videos on the forum don't see much crowd either.
 
Keep most of it in Sharjah,dont understand the poin of phases of PSL ? why not keep moving it between Sharjah and Uae?
 
people who are saying England lmao its freezing cold at this time of the year not cricket weather. UAE is fine for now.
 
I'm not saying the crowd will be great but at least we will get better playing environment, the pitches .etc
 
Shifting PSL anywhere outside PAK won't work much - not even in BD. In fact, even now IPL will struggle to gather houseful gate outside India, despite large Indian community everywhere. Previously, T20 was a new concept & so called dynamic power cricket - these days that novelty is not there as T20 leagues are over killed every where. Also, ODI these days are played as 50 overs T20.

UAE is fine, outside PAK - only thing they need to do is to relay those horrible wickets & make the out field faster.

Can be an option in June July. 2 major issues are - timing, it has to be in early morning to avail the prime time in South Asia, which will reduce local attendance & the logistical cost might be too high.

One of the reasons domestic cricket has failed in Pakistan is that instead of regional competition, it has been reduced to departments or commercial enterprises which no one can identify it. No one cares about Habib Bank vs United Bank. Any competition should be between one region or another. Mirpur vs Faisalabad would see a lot more crowd participation if it was marketed right.

No half decent test ground here unfortunately while only the Kinnara Oval near Kuala Lumpur which is, at best on par with a county venue in Eng/Aus - Can't have a Regional T20 cup in a single place :( It also practically rains everyday all year round so having a proper full fledged tournament, such as PSL, will be very frustrating.

I will however say that the weather here will make it for exciting cricket though. The country has overcast conditions 95% of the time throughout the year plus soil is naturally hard so any turf pitch made would have good carry and bounce.

Practically it's not a feasible idea unfortunately.
 
The UAE is the only feasible option. If there was this magical wonderland available, the PCB would have shifted it there already.

Hosting it in another country during their peak season would be very costly, risky because of the competition and logistically terrible.

The PSL is good enough, we don't have to match the IPL in this tamasha business. Focus on building a quality ODI team instead.
 
For the guys saying England, are you crazy? Do you know the crapstorm that would develop if yet another Pakistani fixing scandal breaks out there?

the bottom 2 points are correct, time difference would be a major issue.

So that concludes to the point that viewership is more important than the crowds than better stick to Asian countries and UAE is the only one left...

for crowds, England is a country mad about cricket, you'll see huge crowds even in test matches, getting english players into the league is a way forward but the ECCB won't really allow that since there county and the awful natwest blast will be ruined.

Srilanka is another option.

Sri Lankan crowds would care even less than the UAE ones. England would be the only appealing option outside the UAE, but if the ECB don't allow it then can't do anything.

If the organisers think the brand is now strong enough to survive, with or without the participation of foreign players, then take the whole thing back to Pakistan next year. Have got to build a rapport and following in Pak while the excitement is still there. Keep it in the UAE for another season or two,with this quality of cricket and players, and the hype/interest will fade away completely.
 
I was also thinking about shifting it to England. I am sure will get better crowds in places like Birmingham, Bradford and Manchester. Might not be full houses but better than UAE for sure. But thing is, a) Would be very expensive and lot logistical constraints. The flight to UAE is less than 4 hours, London is 8 hours so would be difficult to fly in replacements etc and also visas, and b) Window. This is the time slot(FEB-March) that PCB has freed for the next ten year or so for PSL. Don't think ideal conditions in England.
 
Btw really hope Quetta and Peshawar do play the two t20 match series they said they were planning in UK. will be a litmus test for crowds.

England is not a country mad about cricket. Cricket is at most No. 3rd sports after Football & Rugby. Yes, Test matches and International matches are sold out or near but Natwest T20s have only decent crowds that too on weekends.

If it was to be in England, you would be looking at a different window.

Won't be able to get the prime slots for an English summer, but either just before or just after could work. But the ECB won't allow it, so no point discussing it anyway.
 
Take it back to Pk. International players from every nation (not just the big names 2nd tier players). PakistanI players only play within there regions (if you dont live in lagore yiu can't play for lahore) min 3 emerging players must play every match 2 bats 1 bowl visa/versa

Today is around -20C in Toronto, which is one of the mildest places in all of Canada.

I don't think cricketers would like to play in this weather.

It's cheap cricket

They cant go back to Pakistan
And it isn't going to work anywhere else
Even in pakistan it isn't going to sell out in each game but you guys can keeep believing

didn't know about this series, but that would be awesome!

England has always been the best place (after Pakistan) to host Pakistani matches... great crowds, atmosphere, condition, support...

its probably a lot more expensive to host it in England thou

You can manage a decent crowd for one off game, but for a league is altogether different ball game.

Infact, such exhibition games cry out to bookies for easy fixing, since players and teams have nothing at stake.

What will be the difference between BPL and PSL? It's the same set of stars with a bunch of mediocrew 1st class players
 
A few years back I was in Namibia to do some contract work. The cricket ground was close where I lived. I decided to go and watch a local game. I was the only spectator

from pics Nepal is a cricket mad country. why not there. also not much time difference. SL is a bad idea TBH. they even can't get crowds for their own league.

Its a league with foreign players most of whom are accustomed to a certain level of comfort,there is a reason why there are English players in the league because UAE is a preferred destination.

Nepal doesn't even have stadiums with infrastructure level of Chattisgarh.
The league wouldn't do well incase the matches are held anywhere else in South Asia.

See they should include whatever international players they could get. PSL can be successful in Pakistan because of better crowds vowing to see international players play with their own. When some would play freely and with safety then it will attract more players and at last cricket will also swiftly and slowly be back in Pakistan.
 
We need to relax. Honestly speaking, crowds weren't exactly great last year either. The revenue PSL generates is because of the TV audience it has and the ratings. This is a gradual process. I was seriously hoping for the tournament to be brought back to Pakistan but obviously someone (IYKWIM) did not like that and thus, a new wave of bomb blasts has begun in Pakistan out of nowhere.

Best possible scenario would be to bring the league back to Pakistan by season 4. Bring cheap players, sundown players, anyone. Just bring it back to Pak.
 
No one will care about a pakistan league in other countries . England or the moon , we will have the same attendance.


I don't think PSL has much potential of growth , its good though that some of our players will earn decent money from that league.

PSL is fine just the way it is. Eventually, there will be a few matches in Pakistan every season and the whole league will be brought back to Pakistan inevitably. An off season shouldn't let you think there isn't potential of growth.

There is way too much saturation , no one really bothers about spl , bpl or cpl. We just occasionaly check out the scorecards and big up any performances by our youngsters like afridi and sohail tanvir. There is a flurry of leagues and we are not giving any different taste to them. That 'eventually' will come like after 7, 8 years and things change a lot in 7, 8 years. Pakistan is not in any position to host international sporting events of any hype , terrorists are doing blasts at will in pakistan successfully. The other day in sehwan shareef , despite threats there were no security arrangements. The security door was broken and the security personells were busy gisipping and instead of ambulances they had horsecarts , dont think we are fooling the world anytime soon.
 
Some of you guys are taking this tamasha league too seriously? How is moving it going to improve it?

That's the right approach. PSL 1 was a mighty success considering the doldrums Pakistan cricket is in. But people should stop expecting exponential returns every time.
