Shikhar Dhawan: Performance Watch

Its blasphemy to put dhoni in the same sentence as the other two guys.

He is up there with those two. You are making this statement because we are watching a well past Dhoni from a long while now. Also, consider what he adds to the table outside his batting abilities.

Has been very good but goes missing in finals. Both him and Rohit (and Kohli). Top 3, who dominate tournaments but fail in finals is the reason why we have not done as well as we should have. Leads to an undercooked (and incompetent) middle order folding up in finals.

Poor shot yesterday. Had he stayed put for 50-odd runs more, Bangladesh would have been deflated much earlier.

Dhawan got overconfident i suppose.

He has the pedigree to do well in finals.

He hasnt until now but he can.

Dhawan has come a long way after being out of the team for 8 years. Kudos to him.

To be fair to him, he only got to play 5 matches in his first 3 years.

His test debut in 2013 is where Dhawan's career really started.

Similar story to another Indian southpaw! :dada

Hammered the Aussies today. Flashes of Jayasuriya in his batting. One of the best batsmen to watch when he is in full flow.

That cover drive though

Dhawan needs some runs today. His form must be a worry ahead of the WC. Been struggling to time the ball in recent matches.

Frankly am not worried about Dhawan's form. He has an amazing ability to not be mentally fazed by prolonged failure. Probably why he is so clutch in big tournaments

Will start with him and Rohit only in World Cups.

Rahul should be given chance at 4 for next two ODIs onwards.

Worrying signs for India. Two of their top three not scoring makes them vulnerable.

Shikar Dhawan scored 143 off 115 balls today against Australia. His century included 18 fours and 3 towering sixes..This was his 15th ton in 126 ODIs.

Dhawan's blistering 143 (115) was the biggest positive for Indians in last night's defeat. Very crucial player who needs to start scoring big. Good to see him coming back in groove.

16th ton. He surpassed Sehwag yesterday to become 5th highest centuries maker for India in ODIs.

Tendulkar...49
Kohli..........41
Sharma......22
Ganguly......22
Dhawan......16
Sehwag.......15
Yuvraj.........14

Dhawan always gets in form during the ICC tournaments. He averages 45+ with a very healthy SR. One of the players to watch out for especially on the flat English pitches.

Ganguly backs India opener Dhawan to shine at World Cup

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - There is not a bowler in the world that can stop Shikhar Dhawan when the opener is in determined mood and the left-hander will be crucial to India’s hopes at this year’s Cricket World Cup, former captain Sourav Ganguly has said.

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-c...er-dhawan-to-shine-at-world-cup-idUKKCN1RP045

He struggles a lot against off spinners. Any decent offie will get him out easily if he is put under pressure of dots.

Will Dhawan make it back into the odi side as a regular?

He’ll be 37-38 when the next World Cup comes round and as a player who relies, perhaps more than others, on his quick reflexes and excellent hand eye coordination (much like Yuvi, Sehwag, Ganguly etc) I can’t see him succeeding late into his 30s.

Should India just groom a youngster in the opening slot and save Dhawan for T20s?

He should not be back in 2023. There are youngsters like Shaw and Gill waiting, they will be much better then.

Dhawan is not a good T20 player. He should be kept around for ODIs but both him and Rohit need to be rotated with KL and Shaw.

Did india miss dhawan?

I certainly think India did miss dhawan. He could have been the difference today and in such a close match.

India really missed him, especially considering his replacement was hopeless Rahul.

Shikhar Dhawan unfazed by competition for India's opening slot

Shikhar Dhawan, the India batsman, has said that he is not focused on the three-way competition for the opening slots in the T20I side and instead, is pleased with his individual returns in the Sri Lanka series.

Dhawan scored a brisk 52 in India's series-clinching win over Sri Lanka at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Friday, 10 January. He registered a 97-run opening stand with KL Rahul, who also notched up his ninth T20I fifty.

With Rohit Sharma having had an excellent 2019 – 2442 runs across formats at 53.08 – there is a three-way tussle for India's white-ball opening slots. It gets particularly stiffer in T20Is, with Rahul averaging 44.17 in the format, as opposed to Dhawan's 28.35.

Dhawan, however, is not fussed about the competition. The left-hander is instead focused on his personal returns, and is happy after scoring 32 and 52 in the two games against Sri Lanka.

"All three players are doing very well," he said after the third T20I. "Rohit, in particular, had an excellent 2019. Rahul has also done well in the last two months and he's a really good player. Even I am in the picture, now that I've done well (laughs). It's building up well.

"I don't think about the competition since it's not in my hands. I am happy with the fact that I could express myself in both opportunities I got."

On Friday, Sanju Samson became the sixth batsman India deployed at No.3 in their last six T20Is. The other five have been Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Dhawan revealed that the management's plan has been to give opportunities to all players in the build-up to the 2020 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, so as to "refine" them ahead of the marquee tournament.

"Today we wanted to give a fair chance to the players who hadn't batted in the series," he explained. "We're left with just 15-20 games [before the T20 World Cup]. They're rotating the players so that when the World Cup comes, everyone's refined and knows their job. This is the best time to experiment."

Dhawan's strike-rate in the final T20I was impressive, as he accumulated 52 runs in just 36 deliveries. The left-hander smacked seven fours and a six in his knock, batting at 144.44 to help India cross 90 within the first 10 overs. His partnership with Rahul looked seamless, as the duo exchanged strike expertly to ward off the Sri Lankan attack.

"As an opener, taking risk is my job. We have to take advantage of the first six overs," he said. "Of course against Sri Lanka, there's Malinga, who's always consistent with his in-swinging yorkers. That's why I changed my strategy from ball one and kept rotating the strike."

Shikhar Dhawan is currently one of the best white-ball openers in the world right now. But there is more to Dhawan that his breathtaking square cuts and thunderous cover drives. The left-hander is quite popular on social media and knows how to entertain his fans off the field as well. When Dhawan was in conversation with former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Wednesday, there was bound to entertainment. The fun doubled when Irfan put Dhawan in the host seat in a rapid-fire round.

From picking the best Indian captain to naming the his favourite batting partner and the best Indian batsman currently, Dhawan was asked direct questions and the opener came out in flying colours.

Dhawan, who made his debut under Dhoni in all formats of the game, picked India’s two-time World Cup-winning captain - 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup - as best Indian captain he has played under.

“(Best batting partner will be) Rohit Sharma... I have only played under Virat and Dhoni, so, as of now, Dhoni bhai,” Dhawan told Irfan.

In the 21 Test, 66 ODIs and 24 T20Is that Dhawan has played under Kohli, the opener has scored 1419, 2873 and 634 runs respectively. He has played 12 Test, 56 ODIs and 21 T20Is under Dhoni scoring 789, 2217 and 411 runs respectively.

In reality, Dhawan has played under 5 Indian captains and not only Kohli and Dhoni. He has played under Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and also Ajinkya Rahane.

Dhawan termed skipper Virat Kohli as the ‘best current Indian batsman’. Dhawan also praised Sharma for his phenomenal performance in the last year’s ICC World Cup saying that “Rohit did brilliantly in the World Cup as he scored five centuries.”

When Pathan asked Dhawan to name the toughest bowler he has ever faced, the latter named Australian pacer Mitchell Starc.

Dhawan also expressed his views on the Indian Premier League (IPL) saying that the league should take place as people are currently surrounded by just the coronavirus news and fear regarding the virus.

“Of course, IPL should take place because people will get positivity from it. Currently, there is only coronavirus news and fear because of it,” Dhawan said.

The 2020 edition of the league was slated to commence on March 29, however, it has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus crisis in the country.

https://www.hindustantimes.com/cric...dia-batsman/story-RXOWVyKZV9qAwElW5SxoUM.html

The Indian Premier League will help spread positivity and change the mood of the people during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who is hopeful that the glitzy T20 tournament will take place this year.

The coronavirus outbreak, which has infected more than 55 lakh people while causing 3.4 lakh deaths worldwide, has wreaked havoc globally, bringing the sporting community to a standstill.

The IPL, which was originally scheduled to be held from March 29 to May 24, was indefinitely postponed by the BCCI due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in India and subsequent lockdown announced by the government to contain the fast-spreading disease.

"It's very important that some sports return to improve the environment and mood. It will have a huge impact if the IPL returns," Dhawan said during an Instagram chat with Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews.

"We have to take care of the security of everyone so we need to be very careful. If it happens, it will be really good for us as it brings a lot of positivity that can be spread all over the world as a lot of people watch it," he added.

There is speculation that the 13th IPL might be conducted in October-November if the T20 World Cup in Australia is postponed.

"Hopefully, the IPL will happen. I always think in a positive manner. It will be really good if the tournament goes ahead," he added.

Cricket boards across the world are working out ways of resuming the game, which includes matches being held behind closed doors without spectators.

"We are going to miss playing in front of a huge crowd if tournaments take place behind closed doors," Dhawan said.

"The fans bring their own charm and aura, but at the same time, it would be an opportunity as we have been sitting at our homes for two-three months now."

India opener Shikhar Dhawan who his ply his trade for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 said he has full faith in his body to overcome the deadly virus even if he gets infected by Covid-19. Replying to a query on whether he ever feared of not returning to playing cricket owing to the pandemic, Dhawan said: “I have full faith in my body, was never apprehensive about playing. I know I can still get the disease but I can fight it.”

The left-hander, however, added that all players are strictly following the guidelines set by BCCI and the respective franchises. “But we are definitely following the safety guidelines, we have undergone the Covid test almost 8-9 times,” Dhawan said

The Delhi Capitals opener commended the BCCI for hosting a tournament like IPL during these tough times. “We have to keep wearing a specific badge, our movements are restricted. It’s a huge thing that the BCCI is able to organise the tournament in this situation.”

Dhawan was also asked about the pros and cons of playing the IPL in the current scenario. “The advantage of less travelling is that the body will tire less, the recovery will be good. But when a player is faring well or doing badly there will be no outlet as he is not allowed to go outside and divert his mind. We have to be mentally very strong,” Dhawan added.

When asked about Delhi Capitals’ chances this IPL, Dhawan sounded optimistic. “It’s important we bond together and create that energy. We have a very balanced side and confident we will take the cup,” he said.

Dhawan said Shreyas Iyer has been leading the team very well. He also said the inclusion of experienced India players Ajinkya Rahane and R Ashwin will strengthen the outfit. “Shreyas led the team pretty well last year, this time Ajinkya has come in, Ashwin has come in, they are quite experienced players and I am sure they are going to share their insights,” he said.

Due to fewer venues and pitches, Dhawan said the wickets might develop wear and tear sooner rather than later, which will benefit the spinners. “We have Ashwin, Sandeep, Amit Mishra and Axar (Patel). We bat deep and their experience is a huge advantage for us, but the whole team has to play well to win the tournament,” he said.

dude is an absolute stud. Was sorely missed inn the 2019 WC semi fi am vs n.z. He would have definitely changed the outcome. We would have pushed Rahul back to number 4 instead. Would have been perfect. sigh. oh well.

Fancy glasses for Dhawan.

One of the most underrated ODI openers ever. Gets overshadowed by Kohli and Rohit.

An insanely good ODI batsman.

101* off 58 to help DC chase 180 vs CSK

Shikhar Dhawan | Man of the Match: It's very special (first IPL ton). Playing for 13 years, so very special. Really happy. At the start of the tournament, I was hitting the ball but I wasn't converting the 20s or 30s into fifties. Once you start doing that, you get more confidence. I just want to continue the same form and make the most of it. I keep my mindset positive, I don't think a lot. Of course, I do have a few strategies according to pitch. I feel I have courage. It (fitness) is very important. Luckily, I was able to work a lot on my routine due to this long break we had due to Corona.

Started slow but is peaking at the right time for Delhi. Some way to send a message to youngsters that they will have to earn their spot by outperformimg him. His peak fitness goes in his favour as well.

Interesting conundrum coming up for our selectors with Rahul and Mayank doing well too. Rohit holds one spot. Other competitors like Shaw has gone quiet after a good start, Gill is not yet batting like a T20 opener, Padikkal will need one more season in domestic cricket and A tours and could be groomed as a like to like replacement for Gabbar.

106* in 61 balls for Dhawan today for DC v KXIP!

And his previous innings

IPL 2020: Shikhar Dhawan creates history, becomes first player to get back-to-back hundreds in Indian Premier League

Delhi Capitals opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan created history on Tuesday as he became the first batsman in the history of the tournament to get back-to-back hundreds. Dhawan reached the landmark in the 19th over as he slapped past point to get a double in Arshdeep Singh’s over. The left-handed batsman took 57 balls to reach the landmark. He had scored a ton in DC’s previous game against Chennai Super Kings. (IPL 2020 Full Coverage)

Dhawan also became only the 2nd Indian to score multiple centuries in one season of Indian Premier League, after Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli, who had scored 4 tons in 2016 season.

Overall, Dhawan is 5th player to score multiple tons in a single season with Kohli (4 in 2016 season for RCB), Chris Gayle (2 in 2011 season for RCB), Hashim Amla (2 in 2017 season for KXIP) and Shane Watson in 2018 season for CSK, being the other four.

During the innings, Dhawan also joined the prestigious 5000 runs club in the IPL. Dhawan, in the 13th over, smashed Ravi Bishnoi for a six, to take his individual score 65* in 36 balls.

In doing so, he surpassed the 5000-run mark, becoming only the 5th player to join the club after Virat Kohli (5759 runs), Suresh Raina (5368 runs), Rohit Sharma (5,158 runs), and David Warner (5,037 runs). Dhawan is only the fourth Indian in the IPL 5000 club.

On the back of Dhawan’s ton, DC finished at 164/5 in 20 overs, setting a target of 165 for KXIP to chase.

Shikhar Dhawan was en route to becoming the first batsman in history of IPL after Virat Kohli to hit more than two centuries in one season when he was wrongly adjudged lbw off Sandeep Sharma in the 19th over. The replays showed impact way outside off stump. Dhawan did not review the decision. He was out for a 50-ball 78, in the process becoming the second batsman after KL Rahul to cross 600 runs in this edition. Dhawan's fifty came off just 26 balls

Virat Kohli holds the record for maximum hundreds in one season - four in 2016. Earlier this season, Dhawan became the first batsman in history of IPL to hit successive hundreds in the game against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai. He had racked up his maiden IPL century during the five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah.

Dhawan turns 35 tomorrow - he’s still in good form but with the odi World Cup 3 years away surely there will come a time soon when the selectors want him to give way for someone younger?

I suspect that his international limited overs career is drawing to a close, it'll be a mistake if India persist with him going into the World T20.

This series against England was a good chance to try out some alternatives.

The pandemic has obviously had an impact due to the lack of cricket, but as a white ball specialist it becomes harder and harder to maintain form if a player is in the mid-thirties and doesn't travel around the franchise circuit. I reckon the likes of Yuvraj, Raina, and Dhoni suffered from the same problem.

Shikhar Dhawan underscores his reputation as India's premier opening bat.
Top scored - 98 (106) with 11 Fours and 2 Sixes at SR of 92.45

Key match player?

I would like to see Pant open the batting in ODIs but think Indian TM sees Shubhman Gill and Prithvi Shaw as Shikhar Dhawan's backup/replacement options for 2023 WC and Pant in the finisher role.

India vs England 2nd ODI: Shikhar Dhawan on the cusp of big ODI milestone

When he gets on to the field in Pune on Friday, Dhawan will be on the cusp of a big landmark. He needs 94 more runs to complete 6000 runs in ODIs and will be the 10th Indian batsman to reach the mark.

Shikhar Dhawan reminded everyone of his pedigree and importance in the Indian limited overs set-up as he scored 98 runs in the first ODI against England, which set the foundation for a big score for the hosts. Dhawan has been a proven performer in the 50-over format for India. His performances at the top of the order were the highlight of India's last triumph in an ICC tournament as he finished the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy as the tournament's leading run-getter.

The southpaw hasn't looked back since and formed one of the most feared and stable opening combinations with Rohit Sharma. While Rohit has taken the plaudits for his massive scores and centuries as an opener, Dhawan has been silently performing his role for the team. Once a three format player, Dhawan is now in the scheme of things in ODIs only and that should be reason enough for the left-handed Delhi opener to keep doing well.

When he gets on to the field in Pune on Friday, Dhawan will be on the cusp of a big landmark. He needs 94 more runs to complete 6000 runs in ODIs and will be the 10th Indian batsman to reach the mark. If he does reach the mark on Friday then he will reach the milestone in just 138 innings, which will make him the second fastest Indian after Virat Kohli (136) and third fastest overall to reach the mark.

This is a huge landmark for a player who isn't celebrated as much as the other two Indian stalwarts, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who form the triumvirate that has been the reason behind India's dominance of the 50-over format for more than 5 years now.

England is one of three opponents against whom Dhawan is yet to score a century, New Zealand and Bangladesh are the other two, and he would want to correct that stat in this series.

A good start from Dhawan at the top of the order will be crucial if India are to again set a big target or chase down a potentially big English total.

One of the top openers of this generation alongside Warner, QDk, Bairstow, Roy and only behind Rohit.

Dhawan being named MoM in the first ODI is such a joke. No way he was the best player in the match.

From putting up a show on the field to tormenting the Sri Lankan bowling attack, there is no denying that newly-appointed captain Shikhar Dhawan had an eventful outing in the 1st One Day International (ODI) of the ongoing bilateral series between India and hosts Sri Lanka on Sunday. Dhawan was a star turnout for Team India in the 1st ODI as the Rahul Dravid-coached thrashed Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Dhawan-led Team India was tasked to chase down a competitive 263-run target in the curtain-raiser of the bilateral ODI series. Making sure that India get off to a flyer in Colombo, opener Prithvi Shaw took the Sri Lankan bowlers to cleaners and the youngster turned the ODI contest into a mere 20-over contest for the visitors. Shaw scored a blazing 43-off 24 before the opener was dismissed by Dhananjaya de Silva in the 6th over.

Taking over from in-form Shaw, debutant Ishan Kishan and skipper Dhawan remained keen on attacking the Sri Lankan bowlers after the end of the first Powerplay. While Kishan scored 59 off 42 balls, Dhawan remained unbeaten on 86 to cap off a fruitful debut as Team India captain. Having said that, let's check out the list of records created by captain Dhawan in the 1st ODI.

Indian opener Dhawan became the fastest batsman to score 1,000 runs against Sri Lanka in the series opener. Before the start of the 1st ODI, skipper Dhawan was only 17 runs short of completing 1,000 runs against the 1996 world champions Sri Lanka.

The seasoned campaigner also shattered Sourav Ganguly's record by becoming the second fastest Indian batsman to complete 6,000 runs in the 50-over format. Dhawan is also the quickest opener to score 6k runs in ODI cricket. Dhawan has breached the 6k mark in his 143rd ODI appearance for India.

Dhawan is also the oldest Indian player to make captaincy debut in the 50-over format. The 35-year-old was appointed the captain of the Indian side for the ongoing Sri Lanka tour in the absence of skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma. Dhawan has surpassed Mohinder Amarnath, who captained the Asian giants at the age of 34 in 1984.

Great stuff by Dhawan. Staying not out and showing youngsters how it is done.

End to end service.

Shabash Jatta

I think Dhawan tried to play the anchor throughout the series to allow youngsters to bat around him. I think he missed the trick here as yes team does come first but, he was actually someone who had a shot at the T20I spot for India but he had to show flamboyant version of himself in the format to get that. Should have used the series as an audition for what Indian team in T20I is looking for from an opener. Still might have a chance but, this was a big opportunity missed by him in my opinion.

Dhawan's been omitted from the squad for the World T20. This might prove the end of the road for his international career.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squad of the men's Indian cricket team for the upcoming edition of the ICC World T20 on Thursday. Facing a selection dilemma ahead of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee has not named veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the star-studded squad of Team India.

Talking about the automatic selections, batting marvel and captain fantastic Virat Kohli will be leading the formidable Team India side at the grandest stages of them all in T20I cricket. Indian opener Rohit Sharma, who is leading India's charge with the willow in the ongoing Test series in England, will remain Kohli's deputy at the T20I spectacle. Rohit's opening partner KL Rahul has also secured his spot in the T20 World Cup squad of the Team India side.

Rishabh Pant will be India's first wicketkeeper choice while Ishan Kishan has been picked as a reserve keeper. Delhi Capitals (DC) star Prithvi Shaw was also expected to fight for the opening spot at the T20 World Cup. However, Shaw and his DC opening partner Dhawan were snubbed from the World Cup squad. Skipper Kohli had earlier hinted to open India's innings with Rohit at the T20I World Cup.

India's pace attack will be spearheaded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami. Makeshift all-rounder Shardul has been named in the standby list that features Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has also been selected for the showpiece event.

Joining Rahul Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the spin department is Varun Chakravarthy who will hope to reward the selector's faith in UAE and Oman. Prior to the squad announcement, the national selection committee was expected to have a formal meeting with the upper echelons of the Indian cricket team at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.

India's T20 World Cup squad: Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami.

Standby players – Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.

Not selected in wolrd t20, and had also been divorced.

Feel bad for the guy

Shikhar Dhawan shrugged off his poor form and made a heroic comeback in the opening ODI of the three-match series against South Africa in Paarl. Playing his first international game since July, Dhawan hit 79 off 84 and added crucial 92 runs for the 2nd wicket with Virat Kohli.

For once, there were doubts over Dhawan's place in the final XI as he had a below-par run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed 4 centuries in 5 matches. As has been the case on the tour, the team management once again backed a senior player and Dhawan made the most out of the opportunity.

The left-handed batsman kept the scorecard ticking and hit 79 off 84 balls, striking at 94.05, before being bowled by Keshav Maharaj. En route his splendid knock, Dhawan leapfrogged Australia great Matthew Hayden, Joe Root and Kane Williamson in the list of highest run-getters in ODIs.

Dhawan, who has been a regular member of the ODI team since 2013, had scored 6105 runs in 145 ODIs before the start of the series opener. He has now scored 6184 runs at 45.80.

During his 79-run knock, Dhawan went past Hayden, Root and Williamson in the list of highest run-getters in the format. Hayden scored 6133 runs in 161 ODIs while Williamson has 6173 runs. Root, a member of England's 2019 World Cup-winning side, has 6109 runs in 152 ODIs.

The Indian opener presently sits at the 58th spot in the overall list and needs exactly 500 more ODI runs to break into the top 50. The elite list is topped by Sachin Tendulkar, who piled up 18426 runs in 462 ODIs.

irat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag are other Indians who sit ahead of Dhawan.

Talking of the opening ODI, India are chasing a target of 297. SA rode on centuries from Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen to put up a huge total on the board.

India and Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shikhar Dhawan will be eyeing a huge milestone when his team takes on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 38 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Dhawan needs just two runs to complete 6,000 runs in IPL. Virat Kohli is the only batter who has scored 6,000 or more runs in the cash-rich T20 cricket league. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper has amassed 6,402 runs (215 matches) so far in his IPL career.

So far, Dhawan has aggregated 5,998 runs in 201 matches, averaging just over 34. He has also scored two centuries and 45 fifties.

Rohit Sharma (5,725), David Warner (5,668) and Suresh Raina (5,528) are the next in the list.

Dhawan, who was bought by PBKS during the mega auction for Rs 8.25 crore, has scored 214 runs in seven matches this season.

PBKS are eighth in the points table, having won three and losing four games so far.

Dhawan has been in an out of the Indian team in the last two years, and was also not a part of India's squad for the T20 World Cup last year.

Speaking on his future with the Indian team, Dhawan said that the door is always open, and it only comes down to the performances of the individual.

"If you perform well, the doors are always open. The call lies with selectors, I am enjoying my journey. I have been performing well and I am enjoying my cricket," the veteran batter had told NDTV during the launch of Shikhar Dhawan Foundation.

Shikhar Dhawan revealed that his focus is on the next ODI World Cup and that he wants to play as many matches as possible for India leading up to it.

In an interview with the Times of India, Dhawan spoke about his plans to focus on the ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup in India next year.

The left-handed opener, who has been a star for India in ICC events in the past, expressed how he enjoys playing in world tournaments and the satisfaction he derives from it.

“I love playing in ICC tournaments. There is always a different feeling and satisfaction and I’ve had some very good tournaments in the past. I prepare and approach every tournament exactly the same way.

"Every time I wear the Indian jersey, pressure is always there and the thing is, as an experienced player, I know how to handle pressure. The buzz definitely helps, because it adds motivation to my game. I don’t get over-awed by the moment, because my focus, process, and preparation is the same for any tournament I am playing in.”

Dhawan said that he aims to play "as many matches as possible" for India leading up to the marquee event at home next year to give his best in the big tournament.

“My focus is definitely on next year’s 50-overs World Cup and for that, I want to play as many matches as possible for India and do well in them. In between, there is the IPL as well, so I will try to continue to perform there and look to play the domestic one-day and T20 matches and keep myself match-fit and ready,” Dhawan said.

Dhawan, who led India to a 3-0 ODI series win in West Indies, will act as deputy to KL Rahul in the upcoming ODIs against Zimbabwe. He stated that his approach to captaincy is to be "cool and aggressive".

"Captaining India is always an honour. My approach to captaincy is to be cool and aggressive - aggressive from the inside, and cool on the outside.

"I want my team to enjoy themselves on the field, but maintain the intensity during the game and to enjoy playing for Team India. I enjoy mentoring the young boys and passing on knowledge and that continues to bring out the leadership qualities in me."

Seems like its curatins for Dhawn's international career. After having lost the selectors favour in both t20s and tests Dhawan has now been excluded from the ODIs against SL beginning next week. Explosive knocks from the likes of Ishan have further eliminated his chances. Unless and until both Gill and Ishan fail miserably Dhawn's comeback look bleak. Him being 37 years old doesnt make things any better.
