This guy is very under rated when it comes to limited over formats. He is most definitely one of the best players of spin in the world right now and arguably the best, maybe Kohli is better or not, but he most certainly is one of the top 3 players of spin at the moment. It's so easy on the eyes, how he reads the spinners and maneuvers the deliveries by reading it perfectly from the hand. Is very calm and composed and easily dominates spin when the time comes.

Doesn't waste many deliveries either and rotates strike brilliantly. Yes, he has had a fair share of controversies during 2008-2014 but I still think he is up there with Younis, Inzi and Misbah as the best players of spin for Pakistan.

Still remember how he schooled an up and coming Kuldeep Yadav in Champions League 2013 or 2014 for his BBL team.

Wont mind him in the Test team on temporary basis. Younis and Misbah's retirement has severely weakened our lineup against spin.

Definitely, him or either Hafeez can be a really handy addition in the Test team in UAE, subcontinent and WI. They are two really calm customers and can help guide the newbies against spin. The problem is, Malik is retired.

He would certainly be more prolific than Shafiq.

Plus their bowling, fielding and tactical acumen will come in handy as well. People here on Pakpassion want to get rid of all seniors for some reason.

He has retired from Test cricket and has no desire to play it

His strength against spin may be true, but in tests teams will work him out with their pacers, they won't feed him spinners.

UAE has helped many batsmen cover their weaknesses against pace. Pakistan haven't produced a quality batsman of swing and seam in years.

I suppose Sharjeel was one of the bests we'd had in years. Maybe not world class like Rohit or Warner, but a really good player of pace by our own standards. What do you say?

Neither Rohit nor Warner can play swing or seam, and I don't Sharjeel would have been able to either with his limited footwork. However, he was our best batsman against raw pace and the way he took on Starc in Australia is something no one else the team can do.

He was shaping up to be our mini version of Warner, Rohit or Hales, which is what we badly needed.

Good catch. I was mainly talking about the ability they had to dominate pace in general. And especially the fact that there was no one in the entire team who could even play pace comfortably, let alone dominate. The only other player I've seen play pace comfortably is Asad Shafiq and that too on his odd day.

Haris plays pace quite comfortably for our standards, much better than Shafiq who is mostly in survival mode like Azhar.

Yuzvendra Chahal rates Malik better than Smith

ISLAMABAD: Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal believes Pakistan's veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik was a better player of spin bowling as compared to Australia's prolific batsman Steve Smith.

The 29-year-old has featured in 52 ODIs and 42 Twenty20s for India so far and has taken 91 and 55 wickets, respectively.

Chahal was asked to rate the best players of spin bowling in the world, at the moment during an Instagram live session, from a list of five players which included India's Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, New Zealand's Kane Williamson, Australia's Steve Smith and England's Joe Root.

“Virat and Rohit are obviously quality players of spin bowling so they will be at the top," cricketpakistan.com.pk quoted him as saying.

“Also Williamson makes life difficult for spin bowlers because he plays the ball really late, especially on a pitch that is slow."

While heaping praise on Malik, Chahal recalled the 2018 Asia Cup clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan which the Men in Blue won by nine wickets in convincing fashion.

“I was bowling to Shoaib Malik during the Asia Cup and was impressed with the way he was taking singles of good deliveries. I realized that this player has a lot of experience and I think he is better than Steve Smith when it comes to playing spin bowling," he said.

Malik, 38, had scored 1,898; 7,534 and 2,321 runs for Pakistan in 35 Tests, 287 ODIs and 110 T20s, respectively. He captained Pakistan team from 2007 to 2009 and retired from Test cricket in November 2015 while announced his retirement from ODIs in July 2019.

Yeah just a pity he soils himself against pace bowling of 125kph and above.

Younis khan is much better against spin espically the sweep time and time again he plays it
