What's new

Shoaib Malik : The most naturally gifted Pakistani batsman of recent times?

I agree.

Watching him play was tragic.

When he was in sing like CT 2009 vs India he was a class act.

I remember him smashing South African bowlers to all corners in 2003.

Yes his career did not pan out the way I would have liked. It’s been tragic but can’t deny the potential this guy had.

You don’t have to tell me.

I remember when the Windies played all 8 pacers in the line up circa 1986 to counter the Maestro and we all know what happened after that.

Who would have thought that would be the moment that trigger the sudden demise of Caribbean cricket.

Used to be Pakistan’s best player against spin.

Missed him today.

Seems like Mian Malik been sorely missed for this T20 series.

Dude can bat at a high SR.

Malik and Hafeez will be back to rescue for next series ;)

Hafeez has looked done over the past couple months.

Iftikhar slots in ahead of him.

Malik definitely deserves to bat at #4 in this team. He has been the best T20I batsman in the past two years and is miles better than Sarfraz.

We missed him in this series.

Took the Bait. Shoaib Malik is not the answer.

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results than our nation is insane. Shoaib Malik is the 6th or 7th best player on the Guyana Amazon Warriors playing below international standard. He will scores runs against the minnows but no one else.

It is so disappointing to see fans never trumpet other names. Its always the same names. Names that have failed time and time again. Disgrace.

He’s proven to be one of our best T20I players in recent times.

In the last 3 years, Malik is averaging 40 at 154 in T20Is.

Fakhar has a similar SR but a poorer average.

Babar has a higher average but a much lower SR.

Malik has by far been Pakistan's best batsman since the last T20 WC.

He was awful in the WC and his recall will be the reason why we never develop as a team. Please not another recall for a guy that should have gone 4 or 5 years ago

Bring Him Back. He will fail against good teams. He will fail when it matters. That's what his career has been over the past 7 to 8 years.

Malik/Imad were finishing almost all of our T20I games in recent years.

Big blunder dropping him for guys like Umar/Shehzad.

He was but we’re not confusing him with ODI’s. We’re just saying he’s been one of our best T20 bats of recent times not the most gifted.

How sad is it that we dont even have replacements for over the hill players like malik.

But that would require actually trying new faces. Not recycled ones like shehzad or akmal.

We just keep on bringing back these awful players and then we ask why the team never has young players coming through. T20 should be a development team with a few established players.

Unfortunately there are no good young middle order T20 batsman in Pakistan.

Hussain Talat has potential but he decides to pose as an all-rounder.

Shoaib Malik is the best we got and should play for the next year at least.

Go left field, find players. How long can we persist with tried and tested mediocrity some of whom have been around for decades.

Who? Sohaib Maqsood? Is he the next player to make a comeback?

Good thing is, National T20 Cup is next month.

I have no problems with Shoaib in the T20 side but I would have big big problems with Hafeez.

the Great Khan and miandadrules look what happens when the legend leaves?

Shoaib Malik is getting older or probably old by now. The only reason he is not retired from t20 because he wants to play international leagues. So it is up to pcb not to select him in the foreseeable future.

Personally in my opinion, time to move on. He is great player no doubt and because of him, we qualified for champion trophy and unfortunately his latest stint in WC 19 proved unsuccessful. I guess England is his curse ground considering he averages lower than tailenders at England whereas he averages higher than any legends of Pakistan in the past at South Africa.

Time to move on and let him go. It is perfect opportunity to try new bloods. As for haters, this thread is proof why haters are needed. Lol

Why?

Pakistan just got swept by SL C.

No need to filter.

He would've possibly done well here because the pitches were fairly slow, and spinners played a crucial role.

But at the same time, need to keep the T20 World Cup in mind. Which is in Australia.

Shoaib malik has been the player of the tournament in the Caribbean t20s
He would also make a useful captain for the t20 team

Superb athlete and has a never give up attitude

Need a #4 in T20s

Hafeez is usually better on fast pitches, but he is out of form.

Another option is moving Asif Ali up the order.

Aside from that, Malik might be the best bet here. He does have a decent BBL record.

With his recent track record, might be worth a punt. He may not succeed but I don’t think he would be the worst batsman in the side.

Shobby is a sensitive guy.

In negative environment his performance drops.

Give him love. Give him assurance and he will deliver.

Butt, Afridi, Misbah and Sarfraz all captains Pakistan had were afraid of Shobby's undeniable charm and abilities. They always ensured Shobby never got a loving and positive environment.

He is to Pakistan what Ishant Sharma is to India.

Both are once in a generation talent but very sensitive and need caring father like figure around so they can feel assured and deliver

This whitewash would have never happened on Shobby's watch. Just goes to show what a valuable player he was. Better than shehzad and Akmal anyway.

Mamoon so Malik is not better at T20i than Mushfiqur Rahim?

Still has a couple of years left to offer to Pakistan Cricket. Should be able to stretch till 2023 WC to provide his invaluable experience to the side and leave on a high note in SC.

Pakistani fans and even PCB have an abnormal romantic notion about bringing pimpled teenagers in the team at the expense of seniors. And that’s true for both batsmen and bowlers. Luckily India does not have that obsession.

That’s the reason most senior players under-report their ages and Afridi remains a teenager forever till his retirement. Amir is at least 3-4 years older than why he has reported.

Malik is a great example of what experience can do for a team’s fortune. Shoaib may fail in the next match but he will win 1 out of every 7-8 matches and that’s more than what most other Pakistani players can do.

Basically the last three months is the last 15 years of Shoaib Malik's career in a nutshell :))

This script is so, very boring.

I don’t think I have the energy to answer the same question(s) in every thread. Do you want me to write it on a piece of paper and put a stamp on it?

Also, don’t ask questions whose answers you will not like.

Babar is very good against fast bowling, even bouncers. I thought Iftikhar and Rizwan also played well against fast bowling by Aussies. Anyway, I am not saying that there is no place for Shoaib Malik in the team, it's just that there is a glaring weakness in his batting which opposition (fast bowlers) will surely exploit.

Aside from Hafeez, not many Pakistani batsmen traditionally are so unfair to single out Malik against bouncers and fast bowling.

My dad asked who scored? I informed him Malik. With a surprised look and smile, even he said 'kamaal hai, is he still playing for Pakistan?' :))

Shobby has now played international cricket across 4 decades.

He joins a very rare lost of cricketers who have achieved this feat.

Tendulkar played for 24 years.

It is a testament to shobby's talent that even in the fourth decade of his career he is the best batsman after Babar in the #1 T20 side. Pakistan will only know what they have lost when this guy retires.

Not watching this series - having to replay on Malik or Hafeez to bail out in t20's tells you pretty much whats going to happen in the t20 world cup.

Clearly one of the two match winners in current Pak team, the other being Hafiz.
