Should a chief selector still be playing domestic cricket?

Afghanistan's ex captain nawroz mangal has retired from international cricket and has since been appointed as chief selector of the national team. However, I recently saw the list of teams for the t20 Shpageeza league and he is listed as one of the players for one team. Does it happen in other countries too?

I don't think this is common in countries apart from minnows. Heck, Hong Kong's coach, Campbell is also a part of their team. Any-who, I don't think this is a wrong step, a domestic player who is also the chief selector would also know how good a player is. Hope Misbah is appointed for this role.

I football, there is a concept of player - manager (who is basically selector), but don't know in cricket. May be in AUS/ENG, they had selectors still playing FC cricket, but don't know about CS playing anything beyond club games.

May not be CS, but it's a good idea to have at least couple of his team members from FC set up - may be former retorted Internationals, who are still active in FC arena.

This is how pakistan cricket operated.

Misbah played a similar role. In the test side he would get his picks unless moin khan was there to stop him.

Chief selectors in 3rd world countries are useless. Tehy rely on tv and never go to matches, thus why not have a playing selector
