Should a substitute fielder be allowed, if a player goes of the field for a "rest"

Personally I feel if someone goes off the field when they are not injured or hurt the fielding side should not be allowed to have a substitute. If they want a quick rest, well then just field with 10 players.

The fast bowlers going of for a shower and quick massage is a bit of a joke.

Batsman are not allowed to have runners anymore so why is the fielding team

What do you think?

Should only be allowed if a player is injured and can no longer continue in the match.

I liked what Botham said on commentary.

A sub should not be allowed for the first 15 minutes. The fielding side should have to field with 10 players.

If the player is off the field for more than 15 mins, then the sub fielder should only be allowed once the 15 minutes are up.

That is a pretty solid Idea I agree.

England exploit this rule way too much

Yeah agree with botham. I see Ben Foakes on the field way too much. Similar story with Pakistan as well since irfan and Jamshed came in. During the India tour Umar or Anwar Ali were on the field a lot. In the recent odi series Umar Amin was out a lot

it should be allowed only in case of an external injury or if the umpire feels its too serios.not otherwise

but then the sub should be allowed to do everything, not just fielding

Broad started this trend. He goes off after a spell of around 4 overs. More than any other team, English utilize the substitute more.

what? then teams can pack their team with xi batsman and later sub them with bowlers

I said they can only go off on injury, both are mutual

if the umpire doesnt allow, they are screwed :msd

but for example, a batsman got injured..Teams could then bring in a specialist bowlery. that could be grossly unfair

yes maybe I think those situations would be very rare

OTOH,we have teams effectively being reduced to 10 men, just because someone got injured.like if a team has to defend a low total and a key bowler gets injured before he comes on to bowl

i read some where long back that Akram use to go in to smoke !!!

well, there are many ways to think but its best not to tinker the rule otherwise it will lead to some serious controversies like Dravid Removal system

Totally agree, ten players should carry on playing if no one has actually succumbed to something serious. Going off for an odd little thing surely doesn't require a sub.

Should ICC be allowing fielding substitute to teams that play half fit players on purpose?

During the game against India, everyone knew that a half fit Pandya was playing. He has his injury issues, and everyone knew he wont be bowling.

Comes in the match, bats, doesn't get any hits. Claims injury. After getting out he goes back in the dugout and we see a substitute take field.

Today, same thing happens with Mujeeb Ur Rehman. A half fit Mujeeb ur Rehman is playing and what Nabi did was got him to bowl his 4 overs upfront, so that as a fielder he could be substituted. His injury might be genuine because it makes no sense bowling him upfront and not attacking with Rashid Khan.

To me it seems, teams are playing half fit players on purpose and be able to get the advantage and than substitute them later on.

In PSL we saw this happening with Mohammad Irfan and later on the Umpires took action by not offering substitute which left the team with a fielder short once.

Should ICC and its umpires be more strict on this?

To be honest, I was taken aback by the Mujeeb issue - he was fit enough to bowl and probably take a wicket but once his quota was done, calmly walked off due to injury!

The pandya issue is different, he was hit on the shoulder by Shaheen, and had to be taken away for Scans, plus he doesn't even bowl.

The Mujeeb issue was just them blatantly abusing the rules, oh i finished my quota let me go and rest and get a better fielder out there. Like Cmon. If a bowler is going to leave the field after quota is finished they need to be down to 10 men for 3-4 overs.

I think if you watch back his 2nd last over mujeeb was actually walking with a limp, looks like he had a hamstring or calf issue which is the reason he bowled 4 in a row and went off. The sub fielder gave a few runs away as well with misfield so not sure he was a better fielder.

I think this one saved Pakistan because he would have come back for one over later if he was fit, and with the pressure would have been tough to face in the backend

Then he should have not risked injury and gone off then.

If he can push himself to stay on and bowl and potentially take a wicket, then he should have stayed on the field.

It'd honestly solve the whole unnecessary "rest" issue if they said no substiture fielder is allowed for the first 12 balls/10 minutes of play when a fielder is off.

Why do umpires let Pandya to take a substitute everytime india takes field

This is ridiculous. Third match, and pandya is resting again.

While umpire keeps allowing this. He has no issue when batting suddenly when it comes to fielding he has arm.issues.

Why allow him to be in the playing eleven. This is really unfair

I seriously believe he fakes it. As soon as the innings mears an end he holds his arm
